Adam sighed, running his hand over the back of his neck. "I'm not meaning to make you out to be bad. I don't even mean it as a thing about you. I guess I'm worried I'm not enough. Would you believe me if I said I'd be better tomorrow?"
Kyle stepped in and kissed him, softly. "We all worry about that, sometimes," he confided. "You're not the only one thinking that. Worrying whether someone would call, or what to see you again. It's just... I’m not encouraging you to lie to me, but... there are some things it doesn't help a relationship admit to."
"So I need to keep my mouth shut?" Adam pulled from that, slipping an arm around Kyle's shoulders to walk him the rest of the way to his room. "I think I can do that."
"Let's just say that it's better to be able to look back after a while and go 'god, did you know I was so nervous when you first asked me out and I spent all this time worrying that I wasn't enough for you' and then we can laugh about it and how silly it seems now, rather than be really aware of it at the time," Kyle told him, leaning into Adam's touch, slipping an arm around his waist.
Adam nodded, thinking that made total sense. "I'm still learning. You'll have to just give me these tips along the way," he said, but he was smiling. He'd figure it out. Or ask someone else, though he wasn't sure who yet. He had a feeling Kennedy wouldn't always be down for the finer points of dating, but maybe. Or maybe he'd find someone else all together.
Kyle chuckled at that, wondering when his life had changed so that he apparently was some kind of dating guru now. "You know, given that the only guy I've really dated has been someone you've been pretty vocal about not approving of, I wouldn't think you'd be all that down for taking my advice on these things," he said, lightly, as they got to his room door. He fished in his pocket for the key, and then turned to Adam, slipping his other arm around him, loosely linking his hands around the small of Adam's back.
Adam was quiet for a moment. "I guess I keep hoping there were good times to go with it," he said honestly. He didn't like Harry, but he hoped that there were times maybe in the beginning when Harry was good to him and that Kyle hadn't just gone willingly into a relationship that was shitty from the jump. Adam focused on Kyle though, the way he turned into him, his hands around his waist. He kissed him softly, but something lingering, not want to step away.
Kyle nodded. “There were, I promise. He was good to me,” he told Adam, without going into detail. For most of the time, Kyle had been happy with Harry. For a lot of the time, Harry had been exactly what he had needed. But, people change and the person Kyle had been going into that relationship wasn’t the person he was now. He wasn’t even all that sure of who he was now, but he wasn’t that boy. Kyle pushed his thoughts away, concentrating on returning Adam’s kiss, his eyes drifting closed and he relaxed into it.
It was good to hear that Harry was good to Kyle. It helped, but it didn’t really make things better. He was thinking that the guy was still a jerk, still controlling and still not good at taking care of something that he should have been stoked to have. He tangled his fingers into Kyle’s hair, kissing him back hard.
