Dear Students of Hogwarts, You may have already have discovered the delightful system concerning the journals you purchased for school, and I do commend those of you that found the 'key' to open them. They are quite ingenious little things, and something I thought would help bring each and every one of you closer and promote school unity. As with any new possession, I’m certain a few experiments were conducted, with or without consent, with lacking or unintentional results. Though learning is very much in doing, I feel that it would be in everyone’s best interest to clear some air about what these wonderful things can do. Each book is connected to all others within the school, and every student from fourth year to seventh year is presently the owner of one. Additionally, all professors were given one to use, and even I, Headmaster Dumbledore, have one: it’s purple and lemon scented. If you haven’t already, try introducing yourself to your journal; a name will suffice, bearing in mind that the language of books is a written kind. After all, one may find one's sentiments more readily received when properly acquainted. And to those with whom you are already acquainted as fellow students, I would impress upon you all to keep an open book and an open mind. These journals are very much like Hogwarts, you'll find: much to be found out and much to be aware of in personal conduct. I call upon our Head Boy, Head Girl, and all Prefects to maintain the same order on them as they do throughout the whole of the school. Simultaneously if one so wishes, but be careful, for I’ve heard walking and reading can prove to be quite disastrous. My congratulations go out to Ravenclaw house, who have not only proved to be quite resourceful thus far, but also respectful. Everyone might serve well to note their sparkling example. With that being said, have an excellent first week of school! Yours Sincerely, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore |
