When he whispered warnings to her she looked up quickly at the woman approaching them and then let her eyes drop again, hoping she hadn't been noticed. She didn't want to embarrass him. The other woman was beautiful, in a way that made Vi feel like a child in comparison. She swallowed thickly, suddenly feeling nervous and inadequate, but she also really wanted him to whisper praise and compliments in her ear again. The same sort of desperation from earlier in the day surged within her and she game him the slightest nod, small and quick enough that it was not noticeable by others.
She looked up at Penny when Wes did, doing her absolute best to keep her face neutral, and when he slip his arm around her shoulders she relaxed into it, wanting to trust what he'd said via text earlier - that he would watch out for her. In a fit of recklessness she didn't recognize in herself, but wanting to do as he asked, she smiled at the stranger and said, "Love your dress. The slit is so..." She cocked her head and put on her best mean girl face (a sad ghost of the one she'd heard her mother was capable of) and then she finished, "Obvious." She felt the spirit of Pansy of years past guiding her, hoping it was the right thing to do. She took a casual sip of her drink and then leaned further into Wes's side.
