The Magpies were playing later and Dagny had no intention of missing that, having developed a quiet sort of passion for the team since she'd been with Thad. Naturally, she wore a black and white dress to support the team, even if she mostly had eyes for one player.

Before the game, though, she had to pay a visit to the townhouse. Isla had offered to loan her a few recipe books and Dagny had meant to go around earlier in the morning, but she'd been caught up with an idea for an article and most of the morning had disappeared before she looked up from her laptop and drank the dregs of her cold coffee. She figured she had just enough time to swing by and collect the books before she met a couple of the other girlfriends for lunch.

She let herself into the house, struck by the realisation that it had been just over a year since she'd moved in here. It was wild how things had changed since then. The books were easy enough to find in the kitchen, along with a tin of cookies decorated like Magpies and a note from her cousin. One cookie wouldn't ruin her appetite for lunch, she reasoned, picking one off the top.

Bash came around the corner from the hallway that lead down to his lab. He'd spent the morning continuing to catch up on some of the work he'd missed while Sof had been recovering. She was seeing her parents today, to go to the game together, and so he'd taken advantage, as much as he hated being away from her even for a Saturday.

He hadn't met her parents yet, and part of him felt that was the best. There was no way Gabriel Gomez would approve of him. So basically... He'd been sulking in his lab for the last few hours. He had only left to make himself more coffee. He really should get a press for downstairs...

And there was Dagny, clearly stealing a cookie. He arched his eyebrows, "You know what they say about the cookie jar..." and he gave a low, disapproving (though joking) whistle.

Dagny's eyes glittered with mischief and she held out the container to Bash even as she took a bite of the one in her hand. "Isla made them," she said, a little awed by how cute the little magpies were. Although she could cook or brew potions a little, she would happily admit that she had nowhere near the talent of her cousins.

"I just came by to pick up some books. Didn’t know you were home." The house had been quiet when she’d arrived and it had been easy to assume that they were all working. "How have you been?" She had a feeling she shouldn’t get between Bash and his coffee supplies.

"Ooh," he cooed, reaching out for one from the offered container. Isla made good cookies. "Books?" He asked, his mouth full of cookie.

Once he'd finished chewing he answered, "Been working a lot, downstairs," she knew about his lab, though she'd never been in it, "Sofia was sick for a week - injured on the fucking job - so I took it off to be here with her, and now I'm making up lost time." Lost time on potions could be dangerous, and he knew that when he took the time off, but fuck work if it came to Sof's well-being.

"Recipe books," Dagny clarified, gesturing at the small stack of books. She didn't think her cousin shared her love to true crime which was what Dagny usually read for pleasure.

She frowned slightly as he explained where he had been working. The fact that he was spending time in his lab was hardly a surprise, but Bash taking time off work to spend with his girlfriend was something brand new and completely unexpected. Delightfully unexpected, actually, her frown quickly morphing to a sly smile. "Well, I bet she appreciated that." Dagny couldn't help but tease him a little. "Who knew you secretly had a sweet side?"

"You cook?" He quirked an eyebrow in honest surprise and a healthy dose of disbelief.

And then his scowl returned. "Nothing sweet about it. She spent most of the week asleep and healing and I spent most of it on the phone threatening the cursebreakers, the goblins at gringotts, and everyone at st mungos. Pretty sure they're not looking forward to my return." It was such a stupid fucking mistake that could have killed her and even if she was better now, Bash's anger hadn't faded. He'd been extra careful with her, extra protective, even after she'd healed.

Dagny scoffed. "I do cook, as a matter of fact." She could understand why he assumed she might not have a knack for a anything culinary - her dislike of potions was well known. "I just thought Thad might get a little tired of Caribbean food."

Her teasing dropped away, caught off guard by the fierceness of Bash's outburst. "What happened?" she asked gently. Her curiosity usually got the better of her and she had to wonder if she was witnessing Sebastian Pucey in love with someone. It seemed he’d channeled his anger into something productive, but she wasn’t sure what she’d do if Thad was getting involved with her work like that. "Do you want to talk about it?" He probably didn’t but she felt she had to ask.

He laughed a short little bark at her offense and shook his head with a smirk.

His eyes, though, turned dark when she asked what had happened. "She had an accident," he gripped the coffee jar tightly to hold his anger in check, "and then they gave her a potion in the field. A potion she was allergic to. They didn't fucking check for allergies or history before just giving her a potions and without a healer or a potionsmaster there for emergencies. They're fucking idiots, is what happened." He took a deep breath, trying to center himself.

"I'm sorry that happened, Bash," Dagny said kindly. She hadn't met the witch, but that sounded dreadful. It couldn't have been easy for either of them. For once, she was actually kind of proud of Bash for getting worked up over something. If anything happened to Thad on the pitch that could have been easily avoided, she would probably be incensed too.

"But she's okay now?" she prompted. "That's the important thing, isn't it?"

Bash nodded, "She is, thank the gods," he rolled his eyes, "but it never should have happened in the first place. There's a reason healers and potionsmasters exist, there's a reason we have the training we have, and you can't just give any potion to any person."

He thought what about she said for a moment with his eyes closed. When he opened them, he set down the coffee and began making himself his pot of it. He nodded again, "Yeah, that's the important thing," he sounded defeated and the words came out on a sigh.

"Do you want a coffee to take with you to the match?" He figured she'd be on her way to see Thad play. That's what quidditch spouses did, right?

Dagny had never seen her cousin quite like this. Yes, she was used to him being fifty shades of melancholy but caring about someone so much was something kind of special to behold. "Well, I hope I get to meet her one day."

She shook her head. "I would but I'm meeting a couple of the other girlfriends for lunch." Dagny felt a lot less lonely going to watch matches now than she had at the beginning of the season. "But maybe we can have coffee another time?"

He blushed. Bash BLUSHED when Dagny mentioned she wanted to meet Sof. "I mean, she's here all the time but we don't really tend to socialize out there... I mean," he tried to save the embarrassment, "We spend a lot of time in my lab, and, yeah..." He trailed off.

"Oh, yeah, makes sense. Hanging out with the girlfriends, huh?" That seemed so weird to him, but he wasn't a social creature, outside of Thomas - and now Sofia. "Is it like a club or something?" He asked, only half teasing. The other half was genuinely curious how that all worked.

"Coffee sometime sounds good, maybe with Sofia? So you can meet her? Liam and Isla have, just in passing, but still. You should, too." They hadn't done the parental meetings yet, but Dagny felt as much a sibling of his as his half-sister and half-brother, which is to say, entirely, so it was only right.

Bash getting bashful was really quite something, a small smirk tugging at her lips.

She rolled her eyes. "You sit around in the cold for hours, you end up having conversations with people." Dagny appreciated the way that they'd drawn her into their conversations and it was nice to have drinks with them in the Drunken Zebra after games, too. Slowly but surely she felt like less of an outsider in Quidditch circles.

"That sounds great. I'm going to hold you to that."

"Oh, good, so not a cult," he said with obvious sarcasm.

"Let me know when? I can move my schedule around anytime, but Sofia's is harder, especially with her in her training assignments these days. She started with potions," he said, the last part trailing off a little bit, as if he wasn't sure what Dagny would think about how he and Sofia had gotten together. He had been her mentor after all, and he wasn't sure if others would consider that inappropriate or manipulative.

"Not a cult." Dagny secured the lid on the tin of cookies. "Then again," she relented, "some Quidditch fans are really weird." Obsession over sports teams was clearly a global thing because she'd seen Quodpot fans who were just as insane.

Laughing, she shook her head. "Sounds like she's never really finished with potions if she's still seeing you. My schedule is pretty flexible, but I'll text you later."

He nodded, "I hope no one has give you trouble about seeing him?" He had heard stories of fans going after the spouses of celebrities, and the idea of anyone doing that to his cousin incensed him.

"We do spend a lot of time in my lab," he said, blushing again. Admittedly, even if they were working on potions while down there, they certainly took a lot of breaks... Very non-potions breaks.

Dagny wrinkled her nose. Her and Thad's relationship had hit the gossip pages in the very early stages of things. But she hadn't come across any crazed fangirls or exes who wanted to hex her, which was always a good thing. "Only you," she said with a smile, remembering his initial reaction to it. "I'm lucky. Even his parents like me."

Gathering up the books and cookies, Dagny planned to drop them off at the cottage before lunch. "You say it's a lab, but I've never seen it. For all I know, you have some kind of sex dungeon down there." Whatever did it for him though - she didn't need the details. "I'm pleased for you," she added more sincerely. "You deserve someone who makes you happy."

"Yeah, his parents are pretty cool, I saw them a lot as a kid. I guess his dad and my dad grew up pretty close. You would have missed that being over in the islands though." He laid on a heavily sarcastic tone with the last bit. It just - still - seemed so weird to him that she had grown up over there. Then again, he and the twins could have easily done the same if his mum and dad had decided to be with the rest of the family.

Part of him was immensely grateful they hadn't. He couldn't deal with that much sun and sand. People were too happy on beaches.

He snorted at her joke. "There's literally a stool, a cauldron, and a workbench to go with the shelves of ingredients. Maybe someday I'll give a proper public tour." That would never happen, but her joking had him feeling a little more relaxed at least.

"Oh, you probably have to get going, yeah?" He poured himself a mug the now brewed coffee (not a fancy brand today) and set the pot back on the coffee maker. "Don't let me keep you, I should get back to work anyway," he said with a sigh.

Bash giving a tour of his personal lab? Dagny thought she was more likely to see a flying pig soaring down Victory Road.

"Yeah, I should." Dagny gave him a small smile. "Maybe try to get a little sunlight and fresh air today?" she suggested. She doubted he'd take that advice, but she knew what a workaholic he was. At some point he'd be the one recuperating if he wasn't careful. "I'll text you later about coffee."
