RP: Showing off
Who: Molly Sue & Hunter
What: Molly gives Hunter a tour of the estate and shows off the construction and remodel progress.
When: Sunday 05/29/28; afternoon
Where: Lakefield Manor
Warnings: None; relationship adorableness
Completion Status: complete

Molly Sue had watched Hunter win against the Chudley Cannons yesterday, and was excited to show off her own work today in exchange. After the game, she'd joined the team for their celebration in Montrose - something she'd gotten more accustomed to the longer they'd been dating - and then they'd had a nice night at Hunter's flat. That morning, they'd lazed about chatting about the party she was planning for her birthday next week. Her birthday was Wednesday the 1st, but she'd planned a big club night for Friday the third or Saturday the fourth, depending on when Montrose would have to place in the Play-offs (she had no doubt they would be in them). Juggling the days had added a slight wrench to her plans, but it was nothing she couldn't handle, and she'd reassured him as such.

Now they stood just at the edge of the property she and her sister had inherited. It was her first time bringing him here, and she was glad for it, for a lot of the remodeling had been finished (from the outside at least) and a lot of the grounds had been redone and fixed over the springtime. It was better to show him now rather than before they'd started, she reasoned. She knew he supported her decision fully, but she'd been worried people other than she and Lucy might not be able to see the potential. With the grounds and building coming together so beautifully, she was more confident.

She bit her lip and played with the hem of her t-shirt as she stood next to him, somewhat anxious about his first reaction.

There were a couple more Quidditch matches today before the final standings would be decided, though things were looking good for the Magpies and it would take a miracle for anyone to overtake them or, unfortunately, the Falcons, who were sitting at the top of the table.

Since he couldn't really see any way that they wouldn't get into the play offs, Hunter was taking the day to relax and spend quality time with Molly. His hand in hers, he looked up at the house, impressed with what he could see. So far, Hunter had only seen pictures of the property, along with various swatches of paint and fabric and even a mood board. "It looks amazing, Molls. Can't believe how much you've done."

Molly blushed, "Well, the business side is all Luce, let's be real, and the actual work is being done by contractors and gardeners, they're the real MVPs," she said humbly. She had done the design - with Lucy's input and sign off, of course - and had worked with the various vendors to plan out the remodel, but that sort of thing - vision - just came naturally to her, so she didn't consider it much work. Even though it had taken... forever to decide on some things. Like colors. And tile. And the backsplash for for the two bars in the main event space.

"Do you want to see more? The builders aren't here today - Sunday and all - so I thought it might be nice to give you a tour? You can see how far we've come?" She still sounded a little small, a little nervous.

Hunter turned his head, pressing a kiss to her temple. It was adorable that she was being so modest. "Aye, but they wouldn't be able to do any of it without your designs." He'd been so busy with training that he knew he'd only seen a fraction of the work that she'd put into this project.

"Of course I want to see more." He grinned. "I'm not going to turn down a private tour from one of the ladies of the house. Lead the way."

She laughed and rolled her eyes, "Ladies of the house, really," and she began walking, tugging him lightly behind her by their joined hand.

"So, this large garden will be for outdoor parties - wedding receptions, anniversaries, and the like - but we also have a large field on the other side of the manor that we could use for large scale events like ceremonies." She rambled, her excitement overtaking any nerves, and his encouragement only spurred her on more. "Aren't the white hydrangeas beautiful?" She asked, showing him one section of the large gardens with particular pride. The manor was to their left now, and she walked him up the gravel, old-school drive to the front door.

"Ladies of the manor," Hunter joked, though there was a part of him that could easily picture her in some sort of formal gown at the door as she waited to welcome guests to her home.

Home. He was close to asking her. Even just seeing this first glimpse of Lakefield Manor he could see that Molly and Lucy had everything under control. Perhaps she was in a more secure place now where he could see if she was open to the idea.

"I love how you've just been able to picture all these big life events and just brought this to life." He stopped to admire the flowers. While Hunter didn't really have the green thumb that his grandfather did, he could appreciate a nice garden. "Nearly as beautiful as you," he told her with a wink, laying on the charm.

She laughed harder, she couldn't help the happiness bubbling up out of her now that they were actually here, and he was still supporting her crazy dream.

"You keep it up with the cheesy lines and I might have to banish you from the manor," she said through her laughter.

"The inside isn't nearly as nice yet but I can show you anyway?" They had come to the grand front doors. Well, they'd been grand in their day, she was sure.

Giving her his cockiest, most cheesy smile, Hunter curled his arm around her middle and pulled her close before planting a kiss on her.

"Of course I want to see it." They weren't going to get to the doors and not go inside. He kissed her again just because he could, feeling particularly playful with the end of the regular season behind him. The next few weeks would be busy, but today was all about just him and Molly. "I'm just going to have to use my imagination."

Molly leaned into his kiss, feeling lighter. "You? With imagination?" She asked, a mock look of exaggerated shock on her face. "I promise, I know it all by heart, so I can walk you through the whole vision," she said with a wink.

And so she walked to the large, heavy doors and spelled them unlocked, opening them with a flourish for dramatic effect and ushered him inside.

Hunter happily trailed after her, laughing. "I like to think I'm more than a meathead Quidditch player." He often joked that Skye had got all the brains but he was by no means stupid.

The sight of the interior still caught him off guard, though. It was far from finished, but he could see the potential. In a way, the building actually reminded him of the McLaggen house in Scotland, which his parents had inherited from Uncle Tiberius. Whereas that house had been lived in for decades now and had that undeniable lived-in feeling when you stepped through the door, this building felt like a clean slate after being empty for so long.

"So when people arrive for their big event this is where they'll come in?" he prompted, wanting to hear her vision. Was it crazy to think that they might be able to use it for a big event one day?

Molly nodded, "Well, this will be reception, and the lounge just past there will be for staging and arrivals, the room just behind that will be for magical transport, because we'll do both." She nearly ran into the two room she described, with him in tow. There wasn't really anything to show, though. Coming back out into the entrance, she gave a grin and said, "But this... This is where the real magic begins." She lead him to the right, which opened to a (once) grand stairway that would lead to up to the bed and breakfast portion of the building, and just past that a grand entryway into what would be the maybe event ballroom, which is what had made she and Luce fall so in love with the space in the first place.

"This," she said, leading him into the large event space, "is what really matters. Weddings, anniversaries, graduations... They'll be beautiful here." She lead him to a corner where the smaller of the two bars was held, and ruffled through some papers that had been left out. "See?" She asked, pulling one toward them, with her plans for room laid out. The room had the large windows she'd fallen instantly in love with, and the afternoon sun streamed into them in golden rays, bathing everything in that perfect mid-afternoon light.

Molly seemed to have lost the shyness she’d been displaying outside, in her element as she described the plans that they had for the space, chattering away as he nodded and tried to take it all in. The ambition and drive she had was often hidden beneath ditziness, but it was wildly attractive. Hunter thought it was one of the reasons they worked so well together; he was equally as driven towards his goals.

It was on the tip of his tongue to ask whether she’d ever pictured the two of them hosting a celebration here.

Peering at the plans, he smiled to see her handwriting where she’d added notes to the plans. "It’s going to be beautiful," he agreed. "I’m so proud of you."

"Yeah?" She asked - it wasn't that she needed someone else to be proud of her. Her parents were, she thought so anyway, even if they never said so and they didn't really approve of her work. Percy in particular, despite how similar they were in work ethic and morals. Their life philosophies were very much in line, they had just taken them down very different paths. And Percy just didn't really understand her love for fashion and design - and now events. So... in a way... to hear Hunter say out loud that he was proud of her meant the world. She felt tears prick her eyes, and willed them not to fall. She smiled, "You are?" Her voice broke just the slightest.

Hunter's eyes widened at the sudden catch of emotion that he heard in her voice. It made him want to hold her and he gave in easily to the urge, his hands coming to rest on her hips. "Very," he assured her. "Just look at everything you've achieved already." He knew he just wasn't built for things like apprenticeships at Gringotts or starting a business, but she was.

"Look," Hunter started, "I know it's another thing to think about when you're trying to get this place up and running, but when you're ready I want to talk about us living together." He smiled bashfully. "I guess mostly I want you to know it's on my mind."

She took a breath to control the emotion flooding her, and when his hands came to rest on her hips, she leaned into him. "It's just... I know it's silly. Party planning and weddings and... it's frivolous." She didn't realize it, but she was parroting her father's words. When she'd told him she'd started designing. She was only 14 then.

When he continued though, and that confession came out, she looked up at him with wide eyes, from under her lashes, "Live together?" Her breath caught, for entirely different reasons this time, and there were no tears to indicate melancholy. But the shock was there, for sure. She didn't have an income, she'd been using her savings to pay her bills and Lucy and she had just taken out a massive loan from Gringotts for the property and business start-up. That was... alot.

"It's not silly or frivolous." Hunter shook his head. He'd spent his early years growing up on Victory Road. One of the first businesses to open up after the redevelopment was a party planner and they were still open now nearly three decades later. "Whoever says that obviously hasn't done their research as well as you and Lucy."

Oh dead. He'd put his foot in his mouth, hadn't he? Perhaps he shouldn't have said anything. "Yeah, one day. I know you're probably not ready right now but I guess I want you to know that's kind of where I am. That's what I want when we're both ready."

She shook her head, "Don't worry about it, maybe it's just my inner voice piping up out of insecurity or something," an inner voice that sounded suspiciously like her father.

"I... Well... No..." She tried to put her thoughts together, "I just mean, I love the idea, but you know I quit my job for this estate and," she shook her head, trying not to cry again, she swallowed thickly and continued, now looking down at their feet between them, "I mean, until things get off the ground I have zero income and I don't even know if it'll take off enough for Luce and I to make any money at all. I'm just using my savings for my bills and that's an awful thing to put on someone else," especially someone as wonderful as him. She'd hate to take advantage, and maybe even ruin what they have.

Oh, money. Hunter couldn't believe that he hadn't thought of that. He didn't think he'd been spoiled by his upbringing, but money had never been an issue for the McLaggens, especially after Uncle Tiberius had passed. His cheeks flushed as he realised he might have been a little insensitive.

"If it helps at all, I'm grossly overpaid for chucking a ball around. And I'm coming into some money on my birthday." Again, courtesy of Tiberius McLaggen who had left money for each of the four siblings to receive when they turned 25. "I don't mind about any of that. Take all the time you need to think about it."

She made herself look up at him again, though she sighed, "It's not that I don't think you can't afford it, I mean, I know you already have your own flat on your own, but I mean, it's one thing for me to live with Cassandra - she's not paying for the townhouse, her parents are, and they were going to whether we lived there or not and they're asking for rent and I..." She didn't know she should say what she wanted to, but they'd never kept things from each other - never had reason to - so she continued, "I just, I don't know how right it is that you'd essentially have to be paying my rent," she hoped that sounded less harsh than paying for me. She didn't want him to think she was thinking anything untoward.

"I hadn't thought of that." Hunter pressed a light kiss to her forehead. "But the offer still stands." He wanted to go through life with her and if that meant shouldering the living expenses for a while Hunter was sure she was worth every knut.

He tried to give her an encouraging smile. "I'm always going to be there for you," he promised.

Molly Sue leaned into his kiss, feeling comforted and heard - a feeling outside of Luce, Frankie, Cass, and Hunter, she wasn't accustomed to. And three of those people she'd only gotten close to in the last year or so. She'd known Hailey for most of her life of course, but Hailey had her own life, and always had so much going on, that even with her, Molly felt she could fall behind a little too easily.

Sighing she looked him in the eye, "Honestly, I really, really love the idea. But I don't know if - financially - I'm able to just yet. And I also think if we do want to do that, we have to have some other conversations - finances, of course, but also like... living together stuff." She wanted to say they should discuss what they both wanted for the future, if they were even thinking of moving in together, but that felt like too much to put on him. Maybe - since he was the one who brought this one up - he'd mention the topic when he felt it was right. "Luckily, studio space won't be an issue when I move out of the townhouse, as we're building a space here for me. Brides and such, easier to just have it all on premises," she said with a happier sigh. It felt like a more comfortable topic, even though she'd been so nervous on their way here.

Hunter nodded. Perhaps this wasn't how he had hoped the conversation would go, but he was still glad that he had broached the topic. It would have eaten away at him if he'd had to keep his thoughts to himself and longer and he wanted her to know how he felt.

"Whenever you want to have those conversations, I'm ready for them." He dropped one hand, reaching for her. "Can you show me where you're going to build it? Maybe I can take some photos?" Something for her to put on her socials.

She felt much better when he said he'd be open to those conversations. She'd never lived with a significant other before, but the practical side her - her father's doing, surely - had come roaring to life at the thought.

She nodded. "We will then, I promise," she didn't want him to worry that she didn't want to take the next step with him. She did, she really, really did. But there also needed to be a lot that happened between then and now first.

When he changed the subject, she beamed at him, "You want to see my space?" That was so cute, she thought she might die at how cute it was. She nodded again, though, "Let's go, then," and she took his hand securely and tugged him out of the ballroom and up the 'grand' staircase toward the overnight rooms.

The first door on the second floor would serve as their office, a shared space for all administration of the estate. And then the second door would be her studio space, with its vaulted ceiling and lovely floor to ceiling windows - which would have plush, full curtains she could close for fittings, of course. She sighed as they entered, already feeling like she would feel at home here. The construction in here was barely a quarter done, but she had brought a beat up sofa from her old flat a few weeks ago, a place for her to work while the construction was going on. She hadn't been doing any sewing, of course, not here, but she came here to design and meet with the vendors and discuss plans with the Construction Foreman. "It's not much yet," she said with a little laugh, "but it'll be perfect. It's already my favorite space here."

Hunter felt reassured by that. Things with Molly had always felt like a partnership and he could accept that things were a little unequal at the moment. He wouldn't push but he always wanted to be honest with her.

Molly's chosen room was full of incredible natural light that illuminated her smile as she explained her plans. There were swatches of colour on the wall where she'd tested paint colours and other signs that work was underway into turning this into her perfect studio. Hunter settled himself on the couch, arms spread out along the back of it. "Just think of all the beautiful things you're going to design in here."

When he settled into the sofa, she followed, waiting for him to sit and then crawling on to straddle him, facing him with an excited grin. "I can't wait. I've never even done a wedding dress before - I mean, it's thee most important dress in a woman's life, and I'll have the chance to have a hand in that. Well, if people let me." Her hands came to rest on his shoulders, and she continued. "And I'll have plenty of space to keep working on my regular projects."

Putting his larger hands over hers, Hunter's smile mirrored hers. There was that excitement again, so vivid it shone out of her beautiful face. He was absolutely sure that people would let her design their wedding dresses. They'd let her dress the grooms and other members of the wedding party. She'd styled him for events and Hunter wouldn't have it any other way.

"Don't forget the bridesmaids and the mothers of the brides." He squeezed her fingers reassuringly. "All made by Molly Sue. You're going to be the most well-known person in this couple." Just as it should be, he thought.

She couldn't help but giggle, "Yeah right, and then you could retire if you want and be a spoilt house husband," she said through her laughter.

That was new. But it still made Hunter smile. He was dedicated to his career, but he wasn't kidding himself that it was the only career he would ever have. Being a Quidditch player had a somewhat limited lifespan compared to most jobs.

He caught those full, surprised lips in a brief kiss. "Maybe that's my dastardly plan all along."

Molly melted into his short kiss, glad he hadn't seemed concerned over her silly 'house husband' comment. "Yep." His hands rested on her hips. "Worm my way into your good graces, build you up into a go-getting entrepreneur, then retire as a house husband. Or trophy husband. Or something else."

Hunter's smile matched hers. "But I'll take any future we can dream up together." Her slip, though, left him feeling quietly confident that they'd have those conversations sooner rather than later.

Her face softened at the intimacy of his admission. ...any future we can dream up together. That sounded so positively delightful that she couldn't help leaning in to give him the softest of kisses, just at the corner of his perfect smile. Together, she loved that thought.

She loved him. So very much. And despite her anxiety and stress about where her life was going at the moment, she was so very content and secure in their relationship. She knew they would support each other's dreams, and conquer them together, and the idea had her floating on cloud nine.
