Jasper had been awake early this morning, pumped full of ideas after an evening of studying. He was tending some luscious hybrid roses and explaining those thoughts to Duncan Brown when Kenzie strolled into the rose garden at Bluebell Cottage. As he spoke, gesturing enthusiastically with a pair of secateurs, he didn't notice her at first. Duncan nodded in her direction and he turned, automatically smiling when he saw her.
"Hey." Since he couldn't think why Kenzie would be out in the middle of countryside dressed for the city, he had to assume she was lying. The question was why. "Did I miss a text or something?" Maybe she'd been trying to get hold of him for something; Jasper wasn't mad to see her, just confused.
Standing up, he tucked his secateurs into his tool belt and pulled off his gloves. "Want to go for a walk?"
