Ever since the pregnancy announcement, Zahara and Hyperion Montgomery kept an open door policy for their children. Especially on Sunday’s. One of them would shoot out a message to the group chat by Wednesday, letting the kids know just what would be on the table for lunch.
When her father had sent out the message that they were making her favorite, homemade spaghetti and meatballs. Her father made everything from scratch, from sauce to meatballs. There was no way Kenzie could turn down her favorite meal, especially when she had to be back on set tomorrow. She wasn’t going to be able to find much time to go home, let alone time to pop in for a lazy Sunday with her father for a bit.
Unfortunately, making the whole thing from scratch meant that he didn’t have much time to chit chat with his daughter until he was done. Kenzie had been wandering about outside in the start of Aunt Zee’s garden just beside her greenhouse. The flower beds were filled with fresh dirt, though from what Kenzie could tell, they were still empty. She wondered if it was too cold to plant anything yet.
A gust of wind had Kenzie slipping inside the greenhouse, her lit joint still between her fingers. It was there she bumped into Tina and Jasper, giving them a lazy smile. “Sorry! Didn’t mean to interrupt, it’s cold, and they are being all.. Kissy face,” she said, nose wrinkled as she remembered watching her dad touch Aunt Zee’s arse.
“Not interrupting,” Tina said, reassuring their step-sister. “I was just showing Jasper, David’s newest baby that I brought mum,” she said happily, holding up the potted venus fly trap to Kenzie.
—
“David makes the cutest babies,” Jasper agreed with a smile that matched his sister’s. “I have dibs on the next one.”
When he’d seen what Hype was cooking up this weekend, Jasper knew he had to go for lunch. It was a bit weird, though. Mum was visibly pregnant now and that had unnerved him more than he’d anticipated. Their relationship was mending, slowly, but he’d still needed to slip out to the greenhouse to find Celestina. He’d been about to suggest that she invite Liam to one of these things before Kenzie had found them.
He moved over to her casually taking the joint for a hit of his own. “Sometimes I think they do the kissy face stuff just to get rid of us.”
—
“Deal, I’ve got the perfect container for it too. It’s this beautiful orangey-pinky sunset colors,” Tina said, imagining just the spot in the greenhouse at the cottage that she had seen the very container. It would be perfect for Jasper, reminded her of the last picture he had posted on winstagram. “It’ll be something like a year to a year and a half, before he’s having another, but you get dibs,” she promised her brother.
There was no surprise in her expression when Jasper joined Kenzie for a smoke, she had known the pair slipped off to smoke for far too long. She just never partook. She started to tidy up the area around the plant, before turning back to the two. “You’re probably right, but I’m going to go crash it. See how much longer until we’ll be eating. I’m starved,” she lied, giving the two a smile.
“That’s because it works way too well,” Kenzie said as she stepped up to the counter along one wall, hopping up on to it. She wondered if they’d feel the same if she kissed Jasper in front of them. Her legs swung as she pictured her father’s face, a soft giggle leaving her. She only stopped swinging her feet to let Tina by without accidentally kicking her.
“A year or more?,” came out a second later, a delayed reaction from Kenzie. Tina bobbed her head, while Kenzie just shook her own. “Imagine being pregnant for a year or more, that’d be so uncomfortable. Especially if it’s twins,” like poor Lucy, Kenzie thought with a shiver. “No thank you, can plants even have twins?” she asked suddenly, not noticing Tina’s soft laugh as she slipped out of the greenhouse.
—
Jasper laughed. “They can,” he confirmed. “I doubt David will, but some can.” After passing the joint back to her, Jasper’s hands came to rest on Kenzie’s knees as he stood in front of her.
“So you’re back to work tomorrow?” Kenzie didn’t seem worried or stressed, but now she had a season of Grace and a whole movie under her belt. “Do I get any spoilers? Are we going to see any more of Emma’s modeling shots?” He grinned, giving her a waggle of his eyebrows. “You’re going to be amazing.”
—
Pregnant for a year with twins, she didn’t want to think about it. The joint came back to her at the perfect moment, an extra hit helping to clear her mind from the fog that plant pregnancies had created.
Her head bobbed happily in a nod, legs parting to give Jasper room between her legs. “No spoilers though, you’ll just have to watch to see,” she said with her own eyebrow waggle. “However, you’re lucky enough that you get to enjoy the real deal.” She lifted forward to steal his lips in a quick kiss. Their relationship was the easiest one in her life at the moment. They didn’t worry about what anything meant, they just enjoyed each other’s company. Both of them often found themselves extremely busy with their chosen career paths, so Kenzie felt the need to take advantage of the time they did happen to find.
—
Jasper pressed forward, his strong hands finding Kenzie’s waist. “I do,” he agreed, hoping he’d get to enjoy her thoroughly later after lunch. Lowering his head, he kissed her jawline, then her neck, his lips gentle and teasing against her throat. “You’re sure I can’t persuade you to share details?” Jasper enjoyed watching Kenzie on screen, incredibly proud of her, but he wouldn’t mind having a few secrets about the show to be smug about too.
“Can I visit you on set?” he suggested, kissing his way back up to her lips. Jasper had visited once before, but not since they’d started all this. “I hear the trailers are very comfortable.” Maybe by then Kenzie and Scarlett would be all good again and the three of them might be able to have some fun.
—
The feel of his hands on her waist had her scooting forward, closer to the man that was giving her goosebumps. His whispered words against her neck had her squirming, breath catching, as thighs squeezed around him. “Mmm how persuasive can you be?” she asked in a low purr. A voice she had been working on in hopes of becoming a leading lady one day.
Curly head bobbed in a nod, nipping playfully at his lower lip. “Fairly comfortable. I’m hoping since we were renewed, we might get slightly bigger ones,” she said a silent prayer to whatever Gods looked over the arts. “You’ll have to let me bring me a plant, something to remind me of you.” She was going to miss him, feelings she wouldn’t touch. She was enjoying how his lips left a trail of fire across her skin, the way his touch took her breath away, and most importantly she was enjoying the earth shattering orgasms they had been able to find together.
—
Jasper’s thighs pressed against the counter, a few choice ideas coming to him about how he might persuade Kenzie to part with some trade secrets. “I’ll persuade you until you beg me to stop,” he assured her, enjoying her seductive tone. Jasper didn’t know where that had come from, but he liked it.
“I’ll pick out something just for you.” Something with a little colour, maybe a relaxing scent. One that wouldn’t need much upkeep, definitely. He caught her lips in a searing kiss, entirely too excited by the idea of picking out a plant for her.
—
Her smile was wicked at his words, heart racing at the thought. Begging him, wouldn’t that be something? She enjoyed it when he was the one doing the begging. Maybe they could get a quick little something in now… Her greedy little hands moved to slip under his shirt, lifting it up his torso, while she kissed him.
Unheard by the pair, Tina had come back to look for her phone. She had wanted to get away from the parents that were still kissing in the kitchen, but as she came bustling inside checking countertops for where she may have set her phone. That was how she saw them first, entangled in each other on the counter. Just next to her phone. How was that her luck?
It was the low groan from her that apparently startled the couple, Tina was almost certain Kenzie looked as if she was blushing. “Sorry, I-I didn’t, uh…” she started, hands nervously patting at pockets that she already knew were empty. “I forgot my phone.” It sounded lame, as lame as when she pointed at the phone lighting up next to Kenzie’s thigh. Was it polite to ask them how long it had been going on?
Tina was trying to wrap her head around it, she had just started seeing Hailey and Kenzie as sisters. This made things… Complicated. Gods, her cheeks felt hot. She was totally looking at her own feet. She had never caught Jasper with someone before. She knew he dated, but.. Their step-sister? How serious was this?
—
Jasper wasn’t embarrassed, exactly, but he had zero interest in sharing some aspects of his life with his sister. He took a step back, Kenzie’s hands slipping out from under his shirt as he did so. His own hands came to rest on her knees.
He glanced at the phone. How had he not noticed it? Oh, Kenzie, of course. There were much more interesting things to concentrate on when she was around. “Looks like you have a message from the lovely Liam,” he remarked as the screen went dark again, keeping his tone light.
—
It took a lot of self restraint to keep her hands from trying to pull him back in. Kenzie took his lead, this was his sister. She had told Hailey, but then Hailey could read Kenzie like a book. There wasn’t anything on the planet she could keep from her sister.
Her eyes followed the pointing, brows perked in amusement. “So it is,” she muttered softly. She used her free hand to scoop up the phone, holding it out for Tina to take.
“How long have you two been dating?” Apparently now was when Tina found her words, as she took the phone from her step-sister. Eyes betrayed the moment of bravery, she had surprised herself. At least she was looking at them, and not at her shoes anymore. She felt the urge to apologize, but was quick to swallow it.
“Not really dating,” Kenzie said, before she could stop herself. It was only after that she looked to Jasper for reassurance. She had so meant to follow his lead, but it was how she compartmentalized her feelings. She wasn’t dating anyone, she loved everyone, and was enjoying discovering more of the wonderful people that filled her life. Now however didn’t seem the time to have that talk with Jasper, not while his sister was staring at them.
—
“No, not dating,” Jasper agreed. They’d never defined it, each having their own partners and even sharing some - even just that fleeting thought had him wondering if Wes fancied another round, especially since Scarlett was out of the picture at the moment. The closest they’d ever really got to discussing their relationship was Kenzie’s pregnancy scare.
“We’re just us,” he offered, “but more.” Kenzie and Jasper just as they’d been from the beginning, but elevated to something new. Jasper shrugged, not sure what there was to say about it. “It’s only been a few months.” Instinct told him not to name the date as their parents’ wedding.
—
Hearing the two of them define their… Whatever it was, Tina was relieved that it apparently wasn’t serious. Though We’re just us, but more had her wondering. What in the world did that mean? She knew she wasn’t going to ask, it wasn’t her place. They clearly weren’t telling mum and Uncle Hyperion. Or were they? She had just found them.
Tina’s head was swirling with questions, instead of prying into her brother’s love life, she instead bopped the button on the side of her phone. A nervous habit, but thankfully there was that message from Liam. It wasn’t important, he had just picked up a book that she’d mentioned she couldn’t find. Still, it was a fantastic excuse to slip from the room. “Oh! You’re right, it was Liam. I should really take this,” she sputtered out, for lack of anything constructive to say. Congratulations didn’t seem terribly appropriate.
Relief washed over Kenzie at Jasper agreeing, her hand that hadn’t handed over the phone moved to rest on his. Good, they were definitely on the same page. Something she had been worried about late at night, alone with a joint on the balcony. She always smoked it away, she was enjoying discovering this new side to their relationship.
While they weren’t necessarily keeping it a secret, there was something about telling Tina that felt a bit awkward. She supposed it was because the other woman seemed to be trying too hard at being polite. “We’re not really keeping it secret,” she offered up. “Just in case you were worried about that. Hailey knows, we’re just… Not really saying it out right?” she hoped that helped the other woman. It seemed to help when Tina gave them a genuine smile.
—
A smile bloomed naturally on Jasper’s face as Kenzie’s hand covered his. They had always very little concern for personal space around each other, even before sex had entered the equation. Jasper, not one to stand still for long with nothing to occupy his hands, found that Kenzie’s touch helped in that regard too. Since the wedding a few months before it had been so easy to change the way that he saw her.
“I don’t think anyone really cares what we get up to in private,” he said with a shrug. He found himself hoping that Tina didn’t mind, at least.
—
Wasn’t that all it came down to in the end, Tina pondered for a moment. It was awkward, but it was her brother. Obviously he dated, they just didn’t talk about it much. He had been there to move her out of Miguel’s, no questions asked. She owed her brother a few of those favors over the years, it was about time she was paying them back.
“Touche, I didn’t think of it that way,” she said to the pair. She let out a soft huff, unable to help herself. “It’s just weird. You two have always been,” she motioned towards them. “ ‘supposed it was bound to happen, hm?”
Kenzie was laughing at the whole situation, finally feeling the tension break. Her hand in his went about lightly tapping fingertips against the back of his wrist, itching to pull him in for another kiss. She had a feeling though that just because Tina was okay with it right that second, she likely didn’t want to see them kissing in front of her either.
—
“I don’t mind being weird.” As if anyone who grew up in the Knottingley household could be considered normal; Jasper himself had been declared half plant by the time he was twelve.
It was mildly frustrating to be so close to Kenzie like this and not actually be doing anything. It had been so very easy to make the change in their relationship that it was hard to remember what things had been like before. Was he a bad brother for wishing that Tina would go and text her boyfriend somewhere else? There had to be a while until lunch was ready, plenty of time for kissing Kenzie.
“I think it might be weirdest for Mum and Hype.” Jasper and Kenzie were going to share a sibling in a few short months.
—
Jasper knew just what to say, catching Tina by surprise, causing her to laugh. “Okay, fair enough,” she said with a playful sigh. “I’m not telling them though.” She would call dibs on not being the one to relay that news. She’d let them tell the parents, she just hoped no one got any ideas about this lunch being the time to say something. She wasn’t sure she wanted to be there for that, especially with mum being pregnant. The thought gave Tina a little shiver, and she turned then to head out of the greenhouse.
“See you inside,” she called out behind her, nose already in her phone. She had something very important to share with Liam, just in case he happened to stumble upon the pair at the next family gathering.
Telling their parents hadn’t even crossed Kenzie’s mind, she wondered if her father would be upset. There was a little voice that said he likely already knew, she tried to ignore it. They had been more careful than that. “We don’t have to tell them yet, right?” she asked as the door to the greenhouse closed behind Tina.
The sudden lack of company had her greedy little hands moving to his pants, pulling him back against her by the hips. Jasper was a very good distraction from the feelings she was processing about her relationship with Scarlett. Things had been irretrievably changed, she had no idea if they were ever going to be the same again. This was the longest the girls had gone without speaking.
—-
“Oh, fuck no,” Jasper declared, glad to have privacy restored and blissfully unaware that their parents had known since the beginning. As far as he was concerned, they had no need to know about anything. They weren’t hurting anyone and they weren’t dating so why make any kind of announcement? He wasn’t going to make some sort of song and dance about it, not like Zahara and Hyperion would.
Even if he didn’t know that Kenzie needed distracting exactly, he was more than happy to be pulled in close again. Jasper grinned at her before kissing her softly, his hands sliding up her legs once more. Touch wood that the spaghetti wouldn’t be ready any time soon…
