Gareth stood outside the Daily Prophet Offices waiting on Skye. He took a couple of quick deep breaths. The past year being stuck in Montrose had him feeling more than nervous, but he was finally doing what Dorret had been telling him to do this entire time.

He checked his watch again. He could feel his heart beating faster. The nervousness turned into excitement. He turned to look up the street to see a slender blonde walking toward him.

Skye had gone with Outfit Option B, like Niall had said he'd like. She knew that was probably wrong but well, maybe she could live vicariously or something. Not that it was fair to Gareth, really, but maybe she'd end up really liking him after all. She had stopped into the office for some quick work and then headed down to meet him.

"Hey you," she said, giving him a big smile. He was tall. Not as tall as Niall, but still, very tall. And well-built. And handsome. And he dressed well, nicer than Skye at the moment. She felt dressed down but her smile didn't falter.

"Hey," his hand instinctively reached for the back of his neck. "You look gorgeous." It was an understatement. Anyone could see that she was attractive by looking at her, but he hadn't noticed how blue her eyes were.

"So." He cleared his throat, "I found this little Wine Bar in Muggle London. It has smaller seatings with an extensive wine list." He probably should've asked if she drank wine before picking.

Her smile softened, "Thank you, you clean up pretty well yourself," she complimented him. Not that he hadn't looked good the other day, but he'd clearly put in effort tonight verses just running to a meeting at The Prophet.

"Wine bar sounds nice," she replied, "I don't think I've ever been to one." She tended to end up at the clubs or the pubs on the weekend. "I'm always game to try something new, though," she added, allowing him to take the lead.

"It's easier to have a conversation." He offered his arm feeling her twine hers around his. They would have to side-along to right outside of the bar. "Ready?" He felt her grip tighten around his arm as they apparated.

They reappeared a block away from the restaurant. "All in one piece?" There's a reason he preferred traveling by broom or portkey. He readjusted his clothes and offered his arm again as they walked down the street.

The Wine Bar itself was small and rustic with exposed brick walls and warm wooden tables. He approached the hostess stand, "Reservation for Reginald."

The hostess looked down the list before pulling menus. "This way." She led them past the main dining area into a hallway branching off into private tasting rooms.

"You'll be in her Mr. Reginald. Someone will be right with you.

As they entered their private tasting room, she removed her hand from his arm and stepped away to look around - it was charming, dim lightly, lovely little room. "Easier to talk? Or you wanted to get me alone?" She asked with her tongue just poking out the side of her cheeky grin.

"Are you big on wine?" She added, wondering if he was one of those jerks.

"To talk." Gereth matched her grin. "I thought I'd make it a special night. I'm not a wine connoisseur, but I'd hoped a small tasting would be alright. If not we can always just head to a bar, I much rather have a beer or whiskey if I'm honest."

She couldn't help but genuinely smile at his... honesty? Humility? Something, but it was refreshing.

Also refreshing was the fact that he didn't seem to mind showing her how much he seemed to like her - compliments, making it a special evening, wanting to impress but also be true to himself... It was refreshing compared to the mixed signals she was (maybe?) getting from elsewhere. Well, she'd kind of told herself they might be mixed signals, though the more practical side of her said that was ridiculous.

"I appreciate it, the effort," she said with a shy smile and a slight blush. "It's refreshing," she didn't explain that one.

She didn't quite answer his question but when she called it refreshing he assumed they would be staying for at least a couple of glasses. There was still time if she wanted a 'normal' drink later.

It was inextricable, when he saw her smile he could help but smile. Somehow, he understood the skepticism, but that smile made him forget. Forget that his father was a philandering rockstar and that he didn't even know his own mother.

"So wine? Or should we find a bar and get a real drink?" Their server hadn't come back yet and they could just as easily slip out.

"Oh, no!" She exclaimed, "I like this, and I like trying new things."

"Have you been here before?" She asked, sliding into one of the two seats at the private, small bar. She pulled the lists of the tasting for each of them, totally at ease now that she's decided to be, and set one across the bar for him. She crooked an eyebrow as if to say 'joining me'?

"First time here." Gareth stifled a snicker crossing the room. The way she looked at him made him smirk. He noticed when he slid in next to her that she had her phone out in her lap. "Work stuff?"

He pulled the extra menu looking it over. The only wines he seemed to know were the Cabernet Sauvignons and the Pinot Noirs. "What type of wine do you like?" He didn't quite have a preference, but maybe she knew more than he did.

She gave him an apologetic look, and quickly came up with a cover story, "Yeah, my boss, I'm sorry. With two gigs these days it's... a lot. There might be a bit of this... I'm sorry if it's rude." She was sure she'd told him about the show when they'd met at The Prophet before.

"You're probably looking forward to a lot of the same, huh? With the season starting again soon?" She knew so little about Quidditch, a shame for a McLaggen, but she knew it was coming back at least.

"Oh!" She looked at the menu, "I like reds - roses if I'm in the mood and it's warm enough out. I don't know much about this stuff, though. Maybe we let them teach us?" A learning experience as a first date was a pretty cool idea to Skye.

"Work happens. I don't mind." She did work for the Prophet after all and if he knew one thing it was that News didn't sleep. "You said you also worked at WeeVee, right?"

Gareth closed his menu when she suggested the staff give them a lesson. "I think that sounds like a great idea." Not that he wasn't worldly, just not when it came to alcohol. A server came in to check on them and Gareth explained how they wanted to move forward. The server nodded and said she would go fetch the somme.

He thanked her and turned back to Skye. "Yeah with the season starting and the World Cup. I'm applying for support staff for the British National Team." He thought about it. Between the season and the World Cup, he'd be out of the country more than in it. "It might be a jetset year if everything happens, wouldn't it."

She gave him a bright smile at his understanding, "Thank you," she replied somewhat shyly. "And yeah, I've got my column at The Prophet and it's sort of been turned into a show? Like relationship advice live on the air, type thing." She rolled her eyes, "Sometimes I wonder why they picked me for it? Like, I'm not a recognizable name or anything, and I don't have much in the way of experience to be telling other people how to run their lives," she gave a rueful chuckle.

She brightened between texts as she listened to him, good at doing two things at once, thankfully.

"I'm sure you'll get the position, your team one the Cup this year, didn't they? Hunter and them are the absolute best and I'm sure a lot of that is thanks to you guys coaching them." Talent was only one part of the equation, she knew.

She really didn't follow the League. Her brother was on the team, well both of them now. But he appreciated her vote of confidence. He needed this. Something that further distanced him from his party boy past. "I don't know much about the topic myself." It wasn't something he didn’t want to get into. Something about "my ex is my best friend and we sometimes drunk text each other" didn't seem like the best date conversation. “You have a presence about you. I think people will turn in for what you have to say. As someone without much experience, I’d tune in.”

Over the course of the night Gareth attempted easy conversations, but at every turn Skye seemed more preoccupied with her phone. Was it really work? He began getting an odd feeling in his gut.

"I really enjoyed tonight." He stood. "I'll take care of everything and I look forward to seeing you on WeeVee."

With a smile, he pulled the door open and walked out of the restaurant.
