When: 1/8/2028
Where: Daily Prophet Offices
Warnings: TBD
Completion Status: Ongoing Complete

Interviews made Gereth itchy, even more so when they were about the performance of the team after a championship win. He thanked the interviewer and took a deep breath as he left the interviewer to write the article for the next Sunday's issue of the Prophet.

He wove his way through the offices. They were like a labyrinth, more so than the offices in Montrose. He swore he took the same turned three times when he collided with a blonde haired witch carrying a stack of proofs. "Shite!" He exclaimed. "I'm sorry. I'm a bit turned around in here." Reflexively, he looked at the floor for fallen papers. Thank Salazar there were none.

Skye was coming around her desk when she hit a solid mass of human and heard a loud curse. She looked up - and up, she was tiny after all - to see Gareth Reginald, from the Montrose Magpies staff in front of her apologizing. She laughed lightly, "It's fine, nothing broken," she joked.

"Are you looking for the Sports Writers?" She gave him a confused look - if he was, how the heck did end up all the way over here in the Culture corner?

"Actually coming from the Sports Writers. I may be a bit lost." Gareth blushed looking at the petite witch standing in front of him looking up at him with her almond hazel eyes.

Oh wow, Gareth Reginald blushing in embarrassment - that was funny sight. She chuckled lightly again, and pointed, "Well, I was just heading out for the day - walk you out? Make sure you don't get lost again?" The cubicles could definitely become a maze way too easily, she remembered her first couple of weeks at The Prophet all too well.

"That's be great." Her smile struck him. She was gorgeous and quick. "I don't want to take another wrong turn and end up in Mr. Zabini's office." He flashed a smile back if only to tell her it was a joke.

"Oh," Skye cooed in sympathy, "Blaise is all bark and very little bite, I promise. He can be intimidating but only in the best of ways," she assured him.

"This way," she said, rearranging the papers she was carrying so they were against her chest and protected against the wind outside. She led the way out of the maze of desks and papers and file cabinets and flying memos and as she walked, she turned her head long enough to say, "I"m Skye by the way, I write the advice column, you got lost all the way into Culture." She gave him another quick smile.

"I was that far off, was I?" For a columnist she found her smile, intriguing. He assumed most of them spent the majority of their time agonizing over their work and deadlines so much so that they'd be come jaded and unhelpful. Was she new? Or did she a hidden talent for being unphased by the nature of her work.

"Gereth Reginald. It's nice to meet you, Skye." There was that smile again. It drew him in. He found himself walking closer to her as they made their way through the building. "It's incredible you can find your way through these corridors" Part of him wanted to ask her what she was doing after she saved him from the depths of the Prophet building.

She laughed, "Yeah, pretty much the opposite of the building from where you came from, and from the exit. We're sort of the back row of the class kids." She nodded, her lips pursing at her own description of her section of the newspaper.

She turned her head and smiled at him introducing himself, "I know, you're kind of all the rage these days - you and Quigley and the players, of course." She wasn't flattering him, it was the truth. They were the reigning champions, after all, it was expected any of them who went out for the World Cup teams would be picked without any hesitation. With a shrug she said, "You get used to it. I've been here a few years now, my first few weeks were a lot of getting lost and accidentally meeting a lot of my new co-workers. She turned a corner to the lifts and sighed, "Here we are," she was pretty sure he could find his way to the lobby from here, right?

"Huh." It was nice to be known for doing something positive. "You follow the League." It was a stupid observation. He didn't know a witch or wizard alive that didn't follow the last season.

"I appreciate you saving me." He looked back at the doors. "Could I take you to dinner? Not as a thank you for saving me. I'd genuinely enjoy your company."

As they waited for the lift, Skye let out a big barking laugh, "Mr. Reginald, I'm a McLaggen, I have no choice." She knew he didn't know who she was - she hadn't given her last name - but she knew once he did it would make sense. She didn't purposefully follow sports, more interested in the latest WeeVee Drama or Madam Malkins' newest line of robes, but it was like osmosis; Quidditch got into her brain whether she liked it or not. "In all honesty, though, Dad's a diehard Puddlemere fan, he came in school with Oliver Wood, so it's only natural," her face was apologetic.

His question, though, surprised her. "I..." She hesitated. It was... She was taken off guard. "Do you always ask witches you've never met out to dinner?" She asked. The lift dinged, and she led him onto it, pressing the button for the lobby floor.

McLaggen? Shite! Hunter. "No offense taken." If he hadn't been employed by the team he didn't know who he'd be a fan of.

"I don't usually ask anyone out." It was blunt and the truth. He'd kept he head down for the past year and it was difficult getting back out there. "Haven't exactly had the time."

"You're rare in that, taking no offense. A lot of the League are very territorial," she said with a laugh. She didn't know many professional members of the sport, other than her brother and his friends, but she'd heard a ton about the culture over the years.

And she'd written about them, as The Birdie, of course.

"So is this an experiment of some sort?" She asked as the lift hit the lobby floor and the doors opened for them. She stepped out and turned to him, not moving across the lobby floor to the doors. "Testing to see if you can?" She gave him a small smile, she wasn't teasing him, but she was curious about this.

She was a straightforward witch. He found himself smiling when she smiled. He liked that. All of it. "Maybe?" It was one thing being a quidditch star at school and having girl fawn over him. He never had to try that hard back then. With a year stuck in Scotland and only having Dorret to talk to he realize how shite he really was at this.

In his introspection something crossed his mind. If the question hadn't piqued her interest then she would've just said no, joked about quidditch types or something, and shown him to the door.

"I'm just waiting to see what the outcome is." He grinned. They were standing in the lobby. She could easily make some excuse to go back in as he left.

Hey eyebrows lifted at his... honesty? "And do you - did you - always tell witches they were part of an experiment when you were asking them out? I can't imagine that worked very well." She cocked her head, basically examining him. He was... odd. Certainly nothing like her elder brother and his friends in the League.

He was handsome, of course, and Skye was single. Her little sister might have already pulled him into a closet and had her way with him, sending him on his way. But Skye hadn't really tried dating since things... drifted apart with Liam. Not that she was upset about that - they'd ended fine, just wanting and needing different things - but it just hadn't occurred to her.

And there was nasty crush she had on her boss.

Then again, maybe this was just the thing to get her mind off of the elusive Niall?

When he grinned, she couldn't help but return it. He had a lovely smile. "Okay," she said finally, still feeling a little confused by the entire conversation. She shoved her papers unceremoniously into her messenger bag, realized suddenly she was still holding them, and then looked back to him. "Where to, then?"
