Who: Scor & Beau
What: Date
When: 01 January, 2028
Where: Ice Rink in Hogsmeade
Warnings: TBD
Status: In-progress

Scorpius had one week to truly wrap his head around the fact that he was taking Beau out on a date. To go ice skating. Why in the world had he asked Beau to go ice skating? He was still trying to figure out why in the world that had been his go to when asking Beau freaking Rosier out on a date. At least Beau had said yes, which was something Scorpius still didn’t understand. At least he’d said yes though, that had to count for something right? Meant he wanted to be there. Maybe he even knew how to ice skate.

It had been arranged that they’d meet up at the magical ice rink in Hogsmeade that had been set up for the holidays. He had dressed warm in a pair of muggle jeans and a jacket that had heating charms in certain places to keep one warm. The garish shirt he had chosen to wear for dinner was hidden by the grey jacket, hiding all of the bright colors that Scorpius loved so much.

Being anxious about his date, Scor had arrived a little too early. Instead of just pacing back and forth, he had taken a seat on a bench near the opening to the rink. It was there that he was slipping on his ice skates, having brought his own from home. His head was down, blonde locks falling forward a bit into his eyes, as he went about lacing them up. He was completely oblivious unfortunately to the world around him, not realizing he may miss Beau showing up.

Beau had got to bed at a reasonable hour last night, having tested the limits of his introversion at his Boxing Day party. New Year's Eve was just another night, especially as he had to be ready to start filming in a couple of days.

Today was going to be interesting. He wasn't exactly planning for there to be a second date, though he wouldn't let Scor know that. The more time he spent with Nate, the more apparent it was that he'd caught feelings in a bad way. As he'd predicted, Nate had only been amused by the prospect of the ice skating date.

He'd dressed for the weather in jeans, a burgundy knitted sweater over a button down shirt and a smart black coat that fell to his knees. Well-made black gloves completed the winter look and he had foregone a hat.

Once he arrived at the rink, just a few minutes late as he had misplaced his gloves, it took him several moments to locate Scor as he didn't immediately spot any of the bright colours that he had come to associate the other man with.

"Afternoon." He approached the bench, offering a smile. "You've brought your own skates?" Beau asked, a little impressed. "You're really going to show me up, aren't you?"

Scor's head had been down when Beau had approached, as he lifted his head to look at him, those stormy grey eyes slid up Beau's body until he met the other man's gaze. He was grinning as well, just a touch flushed from the view he'd gotten as he sat up. "I promise to share the secret of skating backwards," he said as he pushed himself to stand up from the bench.

His own smile was dopey and large, excited just to be there. Definitely a moment he'd remember forever, the day he got to take Beau Rosier out. He mentally kicked himself in the arse for suggesting ice skating. "Does that mean you need to grab some skates?" he asked with a look that said the idea had just struck him.

"Oh, I'm in the presence of an expert, am I?" Beau could skate forward and stop, essential things for getting from A to B, but he had never mastered some of the more flashy moves. There had never been any need for him to purchase his own skates.

He nodded, glancing over at the kiosk. Luckily there didn't seem to be much of a queue, most people probably nursing hangovers from the night before and staying away from the winter sunlight. "Yeah. I'll go get some. You hold tight. I'll be back in a sec."

"Only if that means I can go forward and backwards," he said with a chuckle, smoothing his hands over the skates. He was proud of himself for thinking of something that he could teach Beau. He'd read somewhere that it was good for a first date, he couldn't believe his luck.

"Definitely! I can do that," he said excitedly, pushing himself to stand up from where he'd been seated on the bench. He slipped his phone from his pocket so that he could quickly shoot Albie a text, Beau had arrived and was getting skates. Scor was nervous, he ended it with a wish me luck.

Beau only had to endure a few questions about work and a promise for a selfie when he returned his skates later before he was able to rejoin his date. It appeared he hadn't misremembered Scor's excited, nervous energy and it was a stark contrast to the steady, suave demeanour he appreciated in Nate.

"So do you skate a lot, then?" he asked Scor curiously as he took a seat on the bench to strap his skates on. "I don't think I've been skating for a few years." It might even have been for a job, though it was hard to keep track sometimes.

There was an extra layer of excitement about being on a date with Beau. People had noticed, people were looking, and Scor couldn't figure out if he was enjoying it or if he was uncomfortable. For now, it was something he could brush. It wasn't intruding on their date much, he could handle this.

A laugh slipped from Scor, nodding his head a bit. "My dad enjoys it, we've gone skating since I was small. I'm no expert by any means, but I can go forward and back," he said happily, recalling the last time he'd gone. It had been with a group of friends, followed by a snowball fight on the walk home. Just after Hogwarts. Why in the world had he suggested ice skating? "If you're trying to figure out why I suggested ice skating, I haven't the foggiest. It was the first thing that came to mine," he admitted as a flush came to his cheeks.

Beau stood, testing how secure the skates were. No matter how quickly it could be healed, be really didn't want the inconvenience of a broken ankle. He chuckled at Scor's confession. "It's okay. I don't do this sort of thing often, so it's nice to know there are other options than just dinner." Dating had always been tricky for him, either because of secrecy with men or his face being known by so many when he was out with women.

Having taken off his gloves to put on his skates, Beau put them back on. "Right." He clapped his hands together, looking at Scor expectantly. "Shall we?" The ice rink looked quiet now, fewer people to notice if he landed on his arse.

"There's movies too, but I think that one is a bit over played," he admitted, finding himself relaxing more in the presence of the other man. He was starting to see him more as Beau, less as Beau Rosier the actor. He took a deep breath then, nodding his head to the shall we?, before leading the way out and on to the ice.

He didn't just skate off, knowing Beau wasn't as good. He kept the pace slow, starting their way around the rink. "I was wondering, what do you enjoy doing with your free time? When you're not stuck on a set someplace," he asked curiously.

Beau was impressed with his own balance, thanking his recent (though brief) dance training for keeping him in good shape. Though he still worked out daily, he'd seen his personal trainer less frequently. He was able to keep up with Scor easily enough with only a few minor wobbles.

"Uh, reading, painting, drawing." He managed to shrug, even with his arms held out a little to help his balance. "I guess I've developed hobbies that I can do on set." It was where he'd spent the majority of his life, after all. "But I do like getting out into nature when I can."

Reading, painting, drawing, he had said it all so casually. Scor was impressed, knowing he really wouldn't be able to draw his way out of a paper bag. "That's fantastic, I enjoy taking my bike out too. There's this one road that goes right along the coast, it's some of my favorite in the summer," he gushed vibrantly, a wistful look upon his face. The last time he had taken that ride, he'd been with Scarlett, and things had ended rather enjoyably.

"I've got an '88 Harley that I've fixed up. Long rides are some of my favorite past times. I'm hoping maybe next summer to take a month to just travel on it. I just got a new set of saddle bags for it..." He admitted, going off on a small tangent. He had meant to invite Albie, but would he be able to now? Would they need to bring Ori?

"Yeah?" Beau thought it looked like that was a real passion of Scor's and he always enjoyed seeing that for people. "I'm slightly more of a long-walks-up-a-mountain type than bikes or cars." That was just how he'd grown up, the family following his father around chasing dragons.

He wondered if he would get much chance to travel. With a movie due to start filming in a matter of days, then back to Grace, it might be a lot later in the year before he got to go anywhere further than a trip to Paris. "So where are you planning on going? Around Europe?"

He gave a nod of his head, grinning a bit that they seemed to have something in common. "Do you camp?" he asked curiously. "I've always wanted to, sounds like a fun time. I don't think I ever will though, I enjoy having a loo nearby," he said with a laugh.

"I'm thinking around Europe, not too far from home," he admitted, wanting to be close to home just in case he was needed to watch the kids for any reason. He knew he wasn't really needed, that now that Albie was Ori's father, biological at that, well.. All of the baby Daddy's were around. He was starting to have an existential crisis.

"Yeah." The chilly breeze plucked at his hair. "I grew up around dragon reserves, so luxury accommodation was few and far between." It was really only after his sister turned one that the Rosiers had made the house in Scotland, his mother's home country, their main base. Even after that they had still travelled a lot as his dad did research. "You kind of get used to it if you grow up with it?"

He thought he saw a glimmer uncertainty behind Scor's exuberant, starstruck exterior. "You don't sound too sure about that," he said carefully.

Poker was never Scor's game, his face always gave him away. It was no different today, as he listened to Beau explain how he grew up around Dragons. The surprise was written all over his face, while he tried to formulate his next question. He didn't want to be rude. "What uh.. Made you want to do acting? It just seems like such a huge difference to growing up around dragons," he found himself explaining, not wanting to offend the other man. Constant, stupid, worry.

"Oh, it's nothing," he said, laughing it off. He wasn't about to explain his complicated life to Beau, the other man didn't need the headache. He burst out in front of the other suddenly, turning carefully so that he could line himself up to skate backwards in front of Beau. "Just trying to figure out the best time to leave it all, lots going on."

Beau exhaled as he considered the question, his breath a puff of white in the crisp air. "It looked like fun?" he suggested. He had been so young when he'd first started, just eight years old when he'd landed his first role. "WeeVee was new. I read a lot - still do - and I realised I could make stories that I read come to life." Beau grinned. "I must have been really persuasive to make my parents let me have a go at it."

But he wouldn't let himself start thinking about his parents. That was just a rabbit hole of negative feelings that it was so hard to break out of even two months later. It was going to take a lot longer to get over the hurt he felt.

He nodded, understanding that. Beau was lucky enough to have worked fairly consistently since starting his career. But he also loved to travel and get away by himself. More than once he'd had to change plans when an audition or callback came up. If he didn't have work booked already, it was difficult to commit to plans. Grace being renewed for a second season took some of the pressure off.

"I'm sure you'll figure it out," he said reassuringly. "It's important to take time for yourself."

"You must have been gifted with raw talent," he said appreciatively, since he was sure that most children thought that acting looked fun. Not as many would have enough skills in order to still be acting all of these years later.

Getting off the subject of acting, as unfortunately Scor had little experience with acting. The most experience he had was the hours he'd spent watching Beau on Grace. He doubted Beau wanted Scor gushing more about that, this was supposed to be a date. Not a night out with a super ridiculous fan.

"Thanks," he said with a sheepish smile. "What are you thinking, are you up for learning how to backwards skate now?" he asked curiously, lifting a brow at the other man. "I can share a few more embarrassing secrets if it'll help you trust me enough to teach you," came out teasingly. Scor knew it didn't take much trust to learn something like backwards skating, but was willing to share any secret in order to get Beau to enjoy keeping him around. As ridiculous as that was.
