As much as Frankie enjoyed the research aspects of her job there were days when she had to read and process reports for the department and they fried her brain. Or weeks. This particular report had arrived from a European working group in Germany on Monday morning, and at over 400 pages there was a lot to process. The report was, thankfully, in English, but it was still taking several days to read and synthesise. Especially since there were a lot of acronyms and initialisms in the report, some of which were the English equivalents, occasionally the German version had slipped through the translation process. It meant a second book was required, one produced by the working group, to help monolingual idiots like her correctly translate all the information.
She had been reading, note taking and trying to process the information for the past two and a half days and she was incredibly glad when she saw the clock had ticked past 1pm and she could escape her office for lunch.
She raked a hand through the electric blue and bright pink strands in her hair one last time and shuffled off to the canteen, absently brushing lint off her navy robes. Sometimes she brought in her lunch, sometimes she went out, but today she had no leftovers and no spare energy so canteen lunch it was. After dithering slightly over the options, and hoping to avoid wanting to sleep at her desk mid-afternoon, she grabbed some veggie curry and rice, a cauldron cake, and a huge coffee. She dropped herself at an empty table near the edge of the room and propped her head on her hand, trying to stay alert enough to actually eat her food. She really hoped the ICW wasn't in session, she wasn't up to dealing with Josh, one of the translators who had attached himself to her earlier in the year and was alarmingly perky at times.
She took her first sip of coffee far too quickly and hissed. "Hot. Too hot," to herself.
