Oh, she'd known Christmas was going to be hard--of course, she had--but she hadn't thought it would hit her quite this hard, as she sat on the living room rug in the midst of a tangle of lights. Addison could easily untangle them with a spell, but she rather stubbornly needed to sort them out manually. It was just particularly difficult to even see the strands clearly through the tears in her eyes that wouldn't stop falling.
Although it had seemed that none of them were up to celebrating the holiday, she'd woken up this morning with the insistent desire to go all out right at the last minute. And so, she'd gone out when she'd got up well before sunrise and picked a tree. It was simple enough to get the tree home, but she'd had to dig through storage to find their old tree stand. Once she'd set the tree up, she'd gone back into the family storage to find the boxes of lights and decorations.
Mum wouldn't want them to ignore Christmas just because she wasn't here anymore. Their traditions couldn't be continued this year, not really, but that didn't mean they couldn't remember--no matter how painful it was. And mum had loved these tiny colored lights. It would be worth it to get them on the tree, Addison thought, if she could just get them untangled!
