Beau nodded. They were standing so close that he could smell Nate's cologne yet it felt like there was a barrier between them, solid and intangible at the same time. His voice caught in his throat as he realised what that barrier was: it was all the things they couldn't say or do here in front of other people. That was how he'd made Nate feel for years, wasn't it? He hated it.
"Yeah, it's been good to catch up with people. And I'll take any chance I can get to avoid watching myself on TV. Next year..." Beau wasn't sure what he was going to say, even as he started the sentence. "Next year we'll go all out for your thirtieth. No restraints."
