There was that kneejerk reaction that wanted to defend himself, to point out again that he hadn't kissed anyone, that someone had kissed him, but that he'd stopped it. It didn't matter, though. She was done, and it was clear he wasn't going to change her mind. And when it came down to it, he didn't want to have to change her mind.
The tears were burning his eyes, and he blinked rapidly to try to clear them. Trying to catch his breath, he turned back to her, nodded slightly, then brought his hands up in front of him. The fingers on his right hand pulled his wedding band off his left hand, and he set the ring on the counter next to her. "It can't work if I'm the only one that wants it to. I really do love you, Les. I always will," he murmured. And then he walked around her and left the kitchen. In the living room, he paused, and then he apparated away. Maybe his parents would be able to help him make sense of things.
