Her smile was genuine this time and after a moment she said, "I really do appreciate that," she just didn't have many people she could confide in about things. And even having the few she had now was a new development. She was outwardly so bubbly and friendly, but having a real friend wasn't something she had ever really done.
This was a topic she could open up about. "Oh it's been so good lately, they're partnering with Literacy Flourishes this fall and we've had so many new books donated and people coming in to teach one-on-one reading and the kids are just eating it up." She couldn't discuss any singular cases, of course, but Fiona knew about the kids.
"And they've recently become obsessed with arts and crafts, thus the flowers. We're going to be making and decorating clay vases and we wanted to surprise them with actual flowers to put in them - for all of their bedside tables." The kids were well taken care of at the Foundation, but of course they didn't each have much of their own, an unfortunate symptom of their circumstances. Something like this was small, but she felt anything that could give the kids a sense of ownership was a good step.
