Maria felt a warmth spread in her chest as he talked about her, about them. A warmth that had nothing to do with her impending change. When he called her a good kind of weird she couldn't help but laugh, loud and boisterous, a way she really only ever laughed around Albie. She snapped up as if to double over but the way they lay didn't let the move finish and she felt a muscle snap taught in her ribcage causing her laughter to end a small, sad little moan to escape her.
"Sorry," she automatically worried about making him uncomfortable, even though he'd never given her any indication that her issue made him such. She pulled her arm from between them to rub the soreness just below her right breast, doing her best to take slow breaths to ease the ache.
