When he had first reconnected with Celestina, Miguel had been over the moon. He'd never expected Les to forgive him, to give him another chance, and yet she had. The way he felt for her surpassed the feelings he'd ever had for anyone in his life, and she was all he wanted. And then, when he'd proposed and they'd eloped, he'd truly believed that he finally had it all. He would get to grow old with her, to shower her in his love and bask in hers. But they'd been married for almost two months now, and problems were already starting to pop up.
Surprisingly, it wasn't him. He'd expected that if anything were to go wrong between them again, it would be his fault, but he didn't think he'd done anything wrong. And yet, after those first couple, mind-blowing honeymoon weeks, Les had started staying late at work, sometimes so late that he didn't bother staying up waiting for her. At first, she'd responded to his texts on those nights, reassuring him that it was just her projects, that she was on the brink of breakthroughs, and he'd been determined to be a supportive husband. Her career was just as important as his, and if he didn't realize that, his mum would have bopped him upside the head.
But over the last month or so, she'd responded to his messages less and less. And tonight, she seemed to be ignoring him entirely. Much as he tried not to, Miguel was seeing red. He wanted to storm the lab and drag her out of it, to demand she treat him with the love and respect he deserved as her husband. It was a cover for the hurt he felt, he knew, but that didn't mean Miguel was equipped to handle that either. Finally, at around ten o'clock at night, after drinking a fair bit, Miguel abandoned the thought of a nice, quiet evening with his wife and apparated to the club he knew was always a good time: the Carnival.
