Genosha, here we come.
Who: Wolverine, Colossus, Mirage, Zap, Omen, Matrix, Jubilee, Shadowcat, Toad
When: Sunday, October 28th, 2007 (3:30 am)
Where: Genosha; Northern shore. Three miles inland at Sentinel complex (see map).
What: Rescuing Morlocks.
Status: in progress
Rating:  PG-13

OOC: If any of this summary does not sound savvy, please comment below and I can change anything, or add to it! :)

Hours after Toad's departure from the X-Mansion, the team begins to prepare for a rescue. Diamond uses Cerebro to find the exact location of the abductees. It is the 'war-torn' island of Genosha. More or less barren, it is now home to a (concentration) camp of one hundred plus Morlock mutants, as well as the testing ground for their wardens (sentinels). It is surrounded by a twelve-foot high electric fence, and the camp contains several buildings for housing (twelve) and two control/computer units. The team arrived just off shore and headed for the fences (which open at one point only, a massive pair of steel doors). Matrix and Shadowcat were instructed to get to the main control building first in order to disable to sentinels that were most likely lurking around. So far, there were only armed human guards that had been seen. In order to maintain stealth, it was decided that Omen lift Shadowcat and Matrix over the wall, hands linked. When they reached the other side, Shadowcat would be able to correct a rough landing if need be. As the women reached the ground on the other side, a siren began to sound. The remaining members of the team made for the large doors in order to create a wide exit point for the mutant captives. Zap brought down the electrical fences while Gambit and Jubilee brought down the metal doors, and then some. Colossus and Omen also contributed to the destruction of the wall, but in separate places. There needed to be multiple exit points, just in case. Once they were in, it was ordered that Mirage, Gambit and Colossus join Wolverine in releasing the Morlocks in their seperate buildings while Jubilee, Zap and Will remained at the gate for the inevitable arrival of Sentinels. Between the guards and the distance from their entry point to the controls, Shadowcat and Matrix had yet to reach the main computer.

After they'd gotten over the fence, Dani headed straight for the buildings where the Morlocks were being held. With Wolverine, Gambit and Colossus, they would hopefully be able to make quick work of it. Though the fact that the alarms were going off made it hard to hold on to that hope. Her bow was in one hand, so she could shoot her psionic arrows at any guards that might be lurking about. "I'll take the left side." she said hurriedly to Gambit (who was right next to her). Hopefully the doors wouldn't be to difficult to open. But then again, the three men with her could easily open whatever needed to be opened. The buildings were close together, luckily, so that made it easier to call for assistance. She heard the shouts of guards and prayed that they could get some of the Morlocks out before the Sentinels arrived.

After helping clear the entrance, Remy quickly joined the ranks who were going after the captives. Wolverine was in the lead, followed by the Tin Man, then himself and Mirage. "Then I go right," he responded, acknowledging Dani's words. He parted ways with her and took a corner so that he was face-to-face with a black man in a camo uniform. His gun raised immediately and Remy pulled a short handle from his waist, flicked it and it quickly extended into a metallic staff. He moved for the man, breaking into a dead run, staff twirling. Bullets immediately began bouncing back, ricocheting off the walls of the surrounding buildings. When he was near enough, the staff that had gone pink was launched toward the guard and the man flew back with great force into a wall and fell to the dirty ground, unconscious. Remy flipped forward on one leg and landed crouching beside his weapon that was still charged. With a flick of his arm, it was extended so that it touched the knob of the nearest door. Inside there were voices of people, sounding extremely frightened. There were sounds of children, more specifically. "Step back from the door," he said clearly and loudly. Where he was crouched, his leather-clad arm and hand came up over his head and the still-pink staff in his grasp grew brighter still, until the knob of the door it had connected with blew its lock (outward). The door was quickly pushed open by one of the more brave (or dumb) individuals inside, and by that time, Gambit had stood once more. "We gonna get you outta here," he said. "All these buildings have people?"

The woman (with pink skin) who had arrived in the walkway after the man nodded, "All of them have ten or more."

"T'anks," he said, "you folks go north," Gambit pointed with his cooled staff, "dat way. There'll be some folks waitin'. Dey'll watch your backs."

"Are you X-Men?"

"Oui."

"Cool," a boy chimed, still being dragged from their unit by an older man. "What's your name?" this part was shouted, as he was being moved further away by the moment.

"Gambi', mon ami." He gave the kid a wink and headed for the next door, hurriedly. He hoped his other friends were doing as well as he was... Then he began to hear the explosions. It sounded like Jubilee's brand of boom. Hell. *Non bon à tout.

*Not good at all.

X-Men typically learned one lesson very, very quickly: Nothing ever went according to plan. That's why all of the X-Men undoubtedly developed a keen ability to think on one's feet. When the plan melted into chaos (as it usually did) Pete knew what he had to do and was doing it before he even realized. Taking down the gate simultaneously with his other X-Men had been less a spoken order and more a group decision made through grunts and worried glances.

But with that down and stage two on it's way, Pete focused on his next goal; liberating the Morlocks from their beds. He'd worry about what they were being liberated to later. Colossus, fully decked out in the latest metallic armor (of his own design), followed Logan into the center of the camp. When his gut told him to, he broke off and made for the first door he could find. Forgoing the knob, his hands busted through the frame on either side and he ripped the door off its hinges. A group of scared and confused Morlocks stared back at him from inside the building. "Get to the gate." Piotr said as he felt a series of dull shots on his back. He turned to face the guards, who now seemed a little uneasy about their decision to attack Piotr. Colossus took three massive steps faster than the two could have anticipated and grabbed the first man by the collar, then used him as a weapon to slam into the second. Both men disposed of, he turned back to the Morlocks but he saw they were already on the move. "Hurry! More of us will be waiting." He called to group as he eyed his next door.

Being ahead of the pack (the Russian-Cheyenne-Cajun pack), Logan had the first opportunity to reach the buildings that housed mutant test subjects and set them free. So, he set to work slicing open doors and guards (working from the from the northern end of the longest stretch of doors toward the southern end of the aisle). His arms raised up to either side and his claws emerged, expanding his wingspan and allowing him to take out whatever was in the six-foot-wide path (including doorknobs and locks).

When he reached the end of the stretch, he did an about face (almost out in the open) and realized their guard friends weren't only on ground level. As well as in guard towers, there were men on the roofs of the individual units themselves. Dani and Gambit would surely be vulnerable. "Up top," he said into his headset, simply. He took a running start a the nearest drain pipe (while taking two shots in the chest) and slung around it. While it came unscrewed at the roof under his weight, he had enough momentum to sling himself upward before it tore loose from the building. He landed on his knees, claws out, and was quick to take out the man who'd shot him. He simply swiped once with force at the man's ankles and he tumbled off the roof. Nice shoes. Once Wolverine got to his feet, he began seeking out the next nearest 'guard'. Bunch of pansy-ass feds.

The door was open... a bit earlier than planned. When did anything ever go according to plan? Never, that's when. Omen stood at what was once the gates to the prison camp. He was in the direct center of where the gates once closed. Jubilee was off in one direction, Zap in the other. They waited while the rest of the team headed for their destinations. Their own job was to keep the area clear for the hundred or so Morlocks they were there to liberate.

A ball of nervous energy tightened in his stomach as the alarms continued to sound. He would feel a lot better when Matrix and Shadowcat shut them off. Oh, as well as the sentinels that were lurking. As sweat beaded on his brow, Will tried to calm himself and steady his mind.

Before he'd gotten very far in that endeavor, a sentinel appeared out of the warm night air. It was closest to Jubilee and Will fought back the urge to advance. He didn't want to move until he had to. Jubilee could handle one, but it became clear there was going to be more than one. More footsteps rumbled in the distance and more and more silhouettes appeared. Three, six, he began to lose track. Fuck, screw calm. Will pulled the sword he kept on the back of his X-Suit. "Incoming!" Will shouted as they approached. He had a bad feeling about this.

Well, the gate had come down easily enough, so that had saved time. Unfortunately, the damned alarm went off with it. Jubilee's heart was pounding and this battle had only just begun. She reached up to touch the side of her head with her right hand, pressing a button on the headpiece she wore. During battle instead of wearing her normal sunglasses, Forge had come up with a headband type mechanism that had goggles on them that stayed firmly in place until she pressed the button to snap them down over her eyes when she used her powers. Luckily, the goggles also had night-vision. She looked up at the rapidly descending giant. Oh God. She wanted to go home. Thoughts began racing through her head as her mind switched on to full battle mode. They said the power source was located on a sentinel's chest. That's where she would try to hit, if she could. When the metal monster landed she quickly fired a multitude of heavily charged sparks at the monster. Hopefully that would do the trick. The sentinel had started to stagger until she hit it again, sending it to the ground. Whew. Apparently that worked decently. Will shouted then. There were more coming. She gave a shaky look to Zap before her eyes moved back upward to see where they'd land.

At the last possible second, Zap had raised her hands after Jubilee's initial blasts hadn't taken the sentinel down completely. She hit him again, and it fell. Good. Because just inside the gate, another was landing. Hurrah! Zap turned and took a deep breath, then pinched her lips together as she focused a slew of energy on the waist and chest of the steel titan. The lights across its limbs and face began to dim. It felt like the energy was coming right back in through Zap's hands - like she was sucking the power from it. There were others landing inside and outside the gate, and she took for granted that Omen and Jubilee would manage. She spoke into her headset, "Two down," the one before her fell to his knees in a rather creepy manner - a sight that would surely fall in the Uncanny Valley. The helmeted head skidded through the dry island soil, blowing up dirt all around Zap. She closed her eyes and hit the monster again out of reflex. Just making sure...

Will was nearby, heading inside the gate to take on one of the others that had landed. The fourth that she could see (inside the gate) had her name on it. They had too keep them away from all those people. It wasn't an option. She ran for it, as it was headed away from them toward the buildings where the rest of the team had gone.

'RIDE THE SENTINEL!' Will yelled in his own head as he fell with his sword embedded in the monster's chest. The beast's back slammed on the ground and Will on stood on it and pulled his weapon from the machine. "That's how you do that," he said out loud this time as he looked around for his next victim. Crap, he noticed Zap was moving toward the buildings; one of the sentinel's had landed behind them. A large arc of energy left her body and the sentinel spasmed like it was having a mechanical seizure. Unfortunately, as the sentinel began to fall backward, a missile from its shoulder erupted toward the electrokine. "Zap!" Will yelled, but before she could completely shield herself the missile exploded. He watch in horror as Zap was launched toward him in the air like a rag doll. Will raced toward her body which had yet to clear the shadow of the failing sentinel. Will focused all of his energy on holding the sentinel in the air until he could move Zap but the robot was just too heavy. He was afraid of pushing Zap away because she landed awkwardly on her head and neck. If she was still alive, jerking her suddenly could do worse damage. Fuck, it was too late, Will was almost to Zap but the sentinel's fall wasn't going to be stopped. He dove for Zap and directed his power toward gently moving her to the side. Will landed next to her and tried to scramble to his feet but the monster's lifeless body hit the ground, pinning Will's right leg under its arm. He screamed as his whole body was wrenched pain. His gloved hands dug into the dirt as he tried to block out the pain in his leg. Without much say in the matter, he began to black out.

As sentinels toppled and fell, the ground shook, sending vibrations up Kitty's legs. Hesitating, she regained her balance, arms swinging around and legs bending to lower her to the ground; she whipped her head towards where the sentinel had fallen, catching Jubilee straighten up and make sure she had taken care of it. She followed the other woman's gaze towards approaching machines and glanced over towards Matrix. "They won't be able to hold them off very long," she called, quickening her pace towards the main computer. She would have to find the alarm and shut it off; more than just annoyance, it was probably broadcasting a signal to activate the guards.

While she ran close to her parnter, Kitty saw movement out of the corner of her eye and instinctively grabbed Matrix by the arm, phasing the two of them out of harm's way from flying debris. "Shut off the sentinels; I'll get the alarm."

Matrix merely nodded her head at Kitty's words. If worse came to worse and they couldn't reach the control room on time, she could always try to deactivate the sentinels manually—by using her own abilities. Though she'd prefer not to overextend herself, because that'd leave her vulnerable for attack. That wouldn't be good.

Nope. Not all.

In the meantime however, Matrix reached out (while still jogging along) to a few of the metal titans that were nearby and managed to fry some of the circuitry, causing them to malfunction almost instantaneously. Hopefully that'd help the others out, while she and Kitty made their way to the main computer on clear on the other side of the facility. And if not? At least she'd tried.
