Entry tags:leech, sunfire, sunpyre, zap

Who: Sunpyre, Sunfire, Zap, and Leech.
When: Friday, September 28th, 2007 (After the news report)
Where: Xavier's; Rec Room.
What: Reaction to Sentinel attack.
Status: In Progress.
Rating:  PG-13  for possible angry outbursts and adult language.

Ever since they all had caught wind of a Sentinel attacking an elderly mutant, most of the eyes in the mansion had been fastened upon a television set to keep abreast of news as it became available. Leyu, herself, had only ever faced those metallic giants in the Danger Room and could scarcely fathom coming to one face-to-face. For real. But she still had a pretty good idea.

After the eight o'clock news' headlining story had aired, Leyu couldn't help but feel fearful (and a little enraged) for what the future might bring for mutant-kind. What was even unnerving still, was the woodenness and insincerity of the news casters words. They really seemed detached from the situation, which shouldn't have come as much of a surprise. They really didn't seem to care very much and were pretty much just reading words from a script. And how they said 'to prevent mutants from harming people.'? What; weren't mutants people too? They really needed to edit that bad boy, but she supposed it wasn't an error on the editor's or writer's part; they had done it on purpose.

Leyu's eyes narrowed and her brows creased in annoyance, and she sighed heavily. Someone had been wrongfully attacked and they had labeled it as an accident. As naive as her brother thought she was, she knew better than to think of this terrible tragedy as a fluke.

As Napoleon Bonaparte had once said: "There is no such thing as accident; it is fate misnamed.” Leyu believed in this philosophy wholeheartedly and she was sure she was not alone in thinking this. Least of all in her present company.

Shiro had been walking back from the gym when someone alerted him to the news. Still in his gym clothes, he ducked into the rec room to see the TV. While there seemed to be a lot of people there, he noticed his sister was among them. Things still seemed a little awkward between the two of them. He wanted to make amends but he didn't know how to do it exactly without being seen as "weak." Spending five years with a testosterone pumped population causes one to act like that. This new life, he still needed to get used to. He wasn't used to rules and he was essentially an older high school student.

He walked up right behind his sister as he watched the report. He made a noise of disgust, "Tschi" and rolled his eyes before stating in English, "That's what they want us to think. It's the perfect cover up. Say it was an accident while these hunks of metal destroy mutant kind." Time in the underground made him a bit paranoid but he also read Isaac Asimov so knew perfectly well that machines could go crazy.

His hands were in his sweatpants pocket but he found a nickel and placed it playfully on top of his sister's head. It was his way of saying hello without any commitment to it.

Normally, Zap would've been viewing the events from a small, cruddy monitor in one of the downstairs labs. However, the events weren't just being covered, so she'd wandered upstairs to A) grab some food and B) see what everyone else was saying about the happening in Detroit. The second report was just wrapping up as she came into the doorway of the rec room. Shiro and Leyu were discussing the potential issue (where mutants were concerned). "No mutants died," she pointed out, to Sunfire. "The victims were human. I don't even think the guy who had the heart attack died." But honestly, she had a feeling Shiro might be on to something. This event, however, was probably an issue with robotics, as opposed to a government conspiracy. She eyed the coin on the younger woman's head and fought a smirk, the looked back to the television, "I think that anchor is a mutant. Or a sympathizer." Everything he had said in both reports led Zap to believe that he didn't like what had happened with the 'malfunction' of the sentinel - in any way, shape or form.

Another loud knock sounded off on the office door of Ororo Munroe. Jimmy glanced at his red bruised knuckles. Where was she? He'd just seen the TV, talk about the mutants and robots and death. He couldn't go back to that. Not after what he had seen on the night the Phoenix had almost killed everyone. And Munroe said he needed to talk about it. Apparently, he was supposed to also be a mutant. But, by the way everyone stared at him when he entered a room, was he really? And would robots be coming for him? Maybe Magneto was sending them. He walked down the hallway, looking for company for the first time in a long time.

He stopped short of the Rec room. There were older kids inside. Mutants, most of which he didn't know yet. Moving back some, he mentally made sure he spaced his footing so that he wouldn't get the stares. He couldn't let himself do the power thing on them or they would hate him. He was sure of it. Wait, they were talking?

Jimmy politely waited for them to stop speaking before he began. IT was kind of strange to be talking into a room one was standing away from. But the twelve year old had learned long ago that it was best not cause trouble. "Uhm, excuse me. Does uh, anyone know Ororo Munroe? Is she uh, in there?", Or he could talk to the Shadow Girl. Maybe, it was a last ditch person. And this was kinda scary. "Or Miss Katherine?" He added in hushed voice at the end. Maybe he should ask Wolverine to go kill the Robots. He liked killing things.

Not too long after they had moved onto 'other' news, Leyu heard her brother's voice, followed closely by Zap's. She shifted in her seat and twisted herself partially around to look at them while they spoke.

However, Shiro only fueled her annoyance by placing a coin atop of her head. She scowled and promptly snatched it off of her head. It was only five cents, but she pocketed it anyway (ha!).

"The victims might not have been mutants, but it came because of a mutant who wasn't doing anything remotely criminal." That was what scared her so much. The man hadn't been doing anything wrong and the Sentinel still came after him, anyway. "What if those metal titans come beating down our door next?"

Leyu sighed a little again, but it was more out of anxiety than out of frustration this time. Before she had the chance to open her mouth again, she heard another voice coming out from beyond the doorway. She leaned sideways a bit to get a better look at who was speaking and she soon discovered it was Jimmy.

"I haven't seen either of them since earlier this morning," she told him, a little more bluntly than she'd intended. Catching herself, she added quickly, "Sorry." She wasn't upset at him, but at the situation in Detroit.

When Zap defied him with logic, Shiro shot a look at her, "Oh right. I bet the accident was with... the fact that he didn't die." He just couldn't trust humans. Not after all he saw them do. The humans in the yakuza treated him like cattle. His job was to use his ability, often for destructive purposes. At the mention of the anchor, he smirked, "Quite possible. It would be a... ano, apt position?" he wasn't quite sure that was the correct word in English, "to have as a mutant. Whoever controls the media, controls the thoughts of many."

As the small kid walked in, Shiro appraised him for a moment. That was the kid that the cure was derived from. He shook his head in response, "Sorry. Why do you need her?" He spoke to kids like he did talk sometimes to his sister, in that way he didn't want to seem like he was overly sensitive but in a strained way indicating he was trying to be helpful. Sunfire had a weakness to girls and kids.

"If those robots come here next, I will turn them into a steaming pile of metal," he scowled, his eyes narrowing and probably would shoot fire if they could. But he was no Cyclopes.

"You're right, Leyu. I don't agree with the sentinels being around at all," Zap admitted, "But when people are scared and have technology that can protect them," well, the Yoshidas knew exactly what she was getting at... "Sometimes the tables turn. I think if there are issues between homo sapiens and homo superiors that we should settle things with words, not-" She jerked her head around and breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Jimmy speaking. It never felt quite right being within range of the boy (though, it had only happened once or twice since his arrival.) She felt like a drained battery. But he was lingering in the hall, not close enough to wipe her completely. She remained where she was, both not wanting to seem uncomfortable around Leech, nor like a coward in the eyes of the Yoshidas. "Storm might be upstairs with Harmon," she offered. "I think she spends time with him after dinner." However, today seemed like a really unlikely day for her to be hiding away and getting quality time. There was a feeling of anarchy about the place. There needed to be an authority figure around (who also happened to be a mother figure, for some). "I don't know where Kitty is, do you want to go ask Mars?" he knew where everyone was - all the time. Though, admittedly, his nature toward children wasn't much better than Shiro's, evidently. In true techie nature, her headset was hanging on her person, however, the wireless headpiece protruding from her pocket. She smirked to herself, "Or I could just do it."

Jimmy took a single step back. He had certainly not expected all three people to talk at once. Why was everyone so loud, and the Robots. Was Shiro right? Were they coming for them? It must be a cover up. He could feel the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end, the way they always did when he was nervous. With his eyes wide, Leech glanced from face to face to face. And over again. Clearly searching for a vocal response, but coming painfully short. "I, uh." He bit his lower lip and glanced at the fire in Shiro's eyes. Then the bluntness of his sisters words hit him. He honestly didn't know what to do. Living a life without human interaction had taken a toll on him. "I-will. Sorry." And with that he stammered forward, down the hall way and past the door. As Jimbo came closer, He passed by the door and felt his powers reach out further for just an instant to negate the three mutants. This leech like feeling caused the young boy's pace to move faster, and Jimmy lowered his head in embarrassment. Hopefully that way he couldn't make eye contact with them. Where was everyone?

Once Leech had gone on, Leyu looked after the boy for a few moments longer. He was really nice, but it seemed he was hopeless in social situations. He had been locked up in labs since he was little, and his powers didn't exactly help matters.

Leyu remembered the first time she got a dose of what he could do. She recalled feeling completely powerless; it was not a pleasant feeling. But she did her best to shake it off this time, though she stilled looked a bit perturbed.

"Diplomacy is always the desired method for negotiating peaceful co-existence." Unfortunately, too many people thought violence was the only way peace could be achieved. Humans and mutants weren't so different from each other really; both sides seemed to think violence was the only means to an end.

Look at the Brotherhood and look at the majority of 'humanity'; they wanted to wipe each other off the face of the earth.

"I don't think it will be possible for homo sapiens and homo superiors to co-exist peaceably," she stated rather brusquely. At least not in their life time, or even that of their future children's.

"Not indefinitely, anyway."

Leyu wasn't trying to be a downer; she was just trying to give her honest opinion.

Shiro sighed a little with relief when Leech moved on. How ironic the kid who was the source of the cure couldn't take the cure himself. The only person he thought who had it more rough would be Rogue. Just the thought of not being able to have sex seriously depressed Shiro.

When Zap made a comment about talking things through, Sunfire shook his head, "Anyone who thinks that everything can be solved with talking is just..." he couldn't think of the word naive at the time so said, "unfamiliar with the ways of the world." He had spent a lot of time in the doggy dog world. And there were those that all they wanted were blood.

"It's a vicious cycle," Shiro commented, "Let's say you manage to destroy one group. Divisions will be made again." Life was so troublesome sometimes.

Zap angled her head forward as she took in what the siblings were saying. Sunpyre had repeated her own sentiment back to her, then explained how it wouldn't work for the world's current issue. Life was a battlefield. And the X-Men had made choices to try and be peacekeepers - to be better, to think faster, to try harder...

If the Yoshidas thought that there was no hope, why were they here? Xavier's education was laced with peaceful, pro-offensive ideals.

She took the headset from her pocket and adjusted it on her ear as she made eye contact with each of them in turn. "I've learned it's better to move on from events of the past and to look toward the future with hope for change." The Yoshidas seemed to be having a hard time with technology trumping the weak. That's how it's always been. Faster ships, more advanced guns, bigger bombs...

Homo sapiens were simply scared because no matter what they did, mutants still slung the bigger weapons over their shoulders. They would not be cured, or robot-wrangled or arrested simply for being born differently. And the X-Men were supposed to understand that, well, they needed to be responsible. Zap could be as cynical as the next person, but she didn't want to let the Professor down. They had known ahead of time that these sentinels could be a possible threat, and they had prepared themselves. When Storm and the others decided it was time to act, well, she would help them. Beast was already doing everything in his power to get the monsters deactivated.

"I know my history," she told the younger mutants, finally, "but I think we can break the cycle." Even if it was an uphill battle for the rest of their lives... and that possibility was great. But Zap couldn't stand around listening to students of Xavier's school stomping all over his principles. She turned and began to head back down the hall.

If she knew her history so well, she'd know that history frequently repeated itself - despite that past lessons had taught any of them. Like her brother had stated earlier: 'it was a vicious cycle' and it was going to take something drastic to make anything really change... and stay that way. Unfortunately, these people (humans and mutants alike) had to want to change themselves.

"Maybe," Leyu said, not sounding very convinced this could be achieved; but there was a very slim chance they'd really be able to break it. One day in the far distant future, most likely. Despite how she felt about this subject and how improbable it all seemed, she would still fight along side the X-Men as long as she could.

Not long after her reply, Zap had retreated and left Shiro and Leyu alone with a few of the younger students, who seemed to be absorbed in their own conversations.

"I wish I could be as idealistic as she is," she commented in her Native tongue shortly thereafter, sounding a little sarcastic. Though part of her wished her idealism hadn't died out with age. She might've only been eighteen, but more and more people were losing their innocence at a younger age these days.

"Why do we stay here, Shiro..." she wondered aloud, after she had turned back around in her seat and bowed her head slightly, resting her chin on upturned hands, looking pensive. "We're too cynical."
