Out of it (Open)
Piotr wasn't sure what happened. Between trekking to the lake - or trying to - again, and getting back to die Festung, something changed. It was a gradual thing. The forest stopped looking wild and overrun and became more park-like, and then he was stepping out from the trees into a normal city street. Naturally, he turned to look behind him. Had he turned wrong while in the depths of the forest? Had he not been paying enough attention while crossing the ruins? Was this another section of the planet that he'd not yet encountered? And if that was so, why wasn't everybody living here?

"This is some bullshit." Piotr mumbled to himself. He was wearing a pretty ratty pair of sweatpants and a tanktop that had seen better days. His shoes were unlaced and his facial hair was in an unforgiving state. Seeing people running around in clothes that hadn't survived a war situation made him feel particularly grungy.

And grumpy.

Another thing occurred to him. If he was here, where was Kitty? Had she come too? Was he supposed to live with losing her again after they'd finally managed to get their shit together and be together? He didn't like that one bit.

At least he had the wherewithal to keep the metal flesh to himself. He needed more information about what was going on here before he revealed what he was. What if this was some anti-mutant haven?

"Hello," Beauty said, from the sidewalk behind this scraggly man.

It had been less than a day since the City returned her home. It was still a little bit of a surprise to wake up and to find that she was home, really home. All last night, she'd been afraid to go to sleep. Sometime around when the birds began singing, she realized she'd missed her chance for sleep anyway. Fortunately, it was a Saturday, and she didn't have to work.

How strange, to know that she needed to go to work. Strange, and, she thought with a smile, very wonderful.

She kept her distance; she didn't approach. This man looked a lot like some of the ones in die Festung. And if it were, well.... she knew better, now, than to try to make friends. But in case he needed help, she would stop. She would wait and see.

"Hello." Piotr returned in his thick accent. He scratched the back of his head, for a moment not exactly sure what he wanted or if this girl was just passing by and leaving kind words in her wake. But when she didn't move, he decided she might be a good one to ask questions of.

"You know where we are? But probably not how I got here. How do I get into a situation every time I try to go to the lake? I wonder if the land is cursed. I should stop trying to go to the lake."

Piotr held out one of his huge hands. "I am Piotr Rasputin. I am sorry. I think I am lost and I am very confused."

Despite her intentions, caution melted away under the clear confusion that this mountain of a man showed. Beauty hurried to close the steps between them and then put her hand firmly into his.

"The pleasure is mine, Monsieur Rasputin," she said warmly, with a big smile for him. "My name is Honour, and you've been pulled into The City. I was just on my way home. If you will walk with me for a ways, I can try to answer your questions -- and at the end, you can have your fill of all the fruit and croissants and wine that you'd like." She paused, then smiled a little more gently. "If you want, you can even clean up a little at my place, and we can see about getting you some fresh clothes."

She hated to say anything that might be embarrassing, but the man so very clearly needed help. She couldn't turn away.

"It is a pleasure, Honour." He looked around and nodded. "I will walk with you. But you do not want to offer me my fill of any food, it is likely I could make you poor."

His eyes still on the City, he began to walk alongside her. "So there is no the Fortress here? No New Troy? This is just another new place?" He made a face at the words as they left his mouth. He should have left the off of the name of the place he lived. It sounded perfectly find in it's native German, but in English it just sounded ignorant.

Piotr was getting really sick of world hopping, and it just made him more worried about Kitty and everybody else. He ran a hand over his beard.

"New clothing would be nice. I am not sure if I should shave. Katya seems to like it. But clean is good, yes."

New Troy! She knew it! He was from the place the City had just rescued her from! Oh, and it was a terrible place. She was glad the City had pulled one of them free as well. She was worried for the good people in that place. And this Piotr seemed like one of those good people. It made her smile that he was here.

Katya seems to like it.

Immediately, the welcome in her eyes turned to sympathy. He'd been separated from someone he loved. That was the worst feeling in the entire world. "Do have your fill," she said soothingly. "There's no way you could make me poor, believe me. This place - the City, it's called - takes very good care of us. Just through here --"

And she gestured back toward the park where he'd left.

"And you're right, Piotr. This is not the same world where you came from. New Troy isn't here; die Festung isn't here. In fact, there's a wall all the way around this city, and beyond that, only stars. Do you recall the island in the sky? That's where we are now. I don't know why you're here, but I'm glad you are."

Maybe she could give Piotr supplies. Other things for the people they'd left. Things that would help them. That place had been miserable. Their world clearly didn't take care of them the way Thomas did.

They came up the hill to where her cottage should be -- only, it seemed to have tripled in size since the last time she saw it. "Hum," she said, stopping on the winding walk that led up to her door. "Well, isn't that interesting..."

Piotr went with the woman back into the park. He was half afraid they'd walk right back into the forest he'd left. But only because he didn't want Honour to be taken from her home. "You have clearly never met a Russian farm boy." He teased about the food. Of course, that wasn't the only reason that he ate a lot. It took an incredible number of calories for Piotr to keep his body running.

"The island... the comet?" Piotr frowned. He hadn't seen it as an island, though of course he'd only paid attention to it insofar as to know where it was and if it was coming to crash upon them. "We are on the comet?"

That was a little weird. But truly no stranger than other things he'd been dealing with.

He stopped when she did, looking at the cottage. It seemed larger than a cottage should be, considering what a cottage was. "What is interesting?"

She nodded when he called the City the 'comet'... It wasn't quite right, but they both knew what the other was talking about. It didn't seem needed to correct him. And besides, there were other things to explain now, like why it was so odd her cottage had tripled.

"Well," she said, heading up the walkway and inviting him with a vague gesture to come with her, "This is my home, and this is where I left this morning.... but it's grown in size considerably. Sometimes the City does this sort of thing, but I've never.... Well, this has never happened before."

She unlocked her door and stepped inside. Everything that greeted her looked familiar -- the sitting area by the door, the kitchen nook, the doorway to her bedroom, to the washing room.... ah.... but that hall was different, wasn't it?

"Here we go," she said cheerily, pointing toward the hall. "Let's see what's down here."

The hall led to a very modern bathroom and two additional bedrooms. The first one was undecorated. No clothing hung in the closet. The linens were plain white. But the second bedroom..... now, that was a different story. As soon as Beauty saw the sturdy-looking outfit laid on the bed, she knew:

"I believe this is your room, if you would care for it. Maybe just until you get your bearings..." Although she didn't mind sharing her home with people who needed it, she was very aware that some might frown on her for doing it. An unmarried young lady typically didn't live with other men. And the truth was that she wanted to help this very scruffy man. She knew just how terrible it was to be separated from people you love.

Perhaps the second room was for that very person. Beauty didn't want to pry, but she couldn't help but wonder who it was.

"Maybe it does not want for me to have to crawl." Piotr smiled a bit. There were a lot of dwelling type buildings that he just didn't fit into.

He followed her down the hall, and admittedly it didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the place, what he was seeing. His eyes scanned the first bedroom, not seeing anything much there to catch on, but in the second one, he spotted clothing that would be far too big on the girl who was helping him.

More important than that, the bed. The bed he shared with kitty wasn't small, but it was still a little bit too small for him. This one seemed to be just his size. He didn't know how that happened, and he didn't really care. Piotr stepped forward and stood at the foot of the bed, then fell face first onto it.

"I think I could actually roll over on this and not fall off." Piotr said into the mattress. He turned his head to the side to get a look at the clothes laid out for him. They were clean, but even better, they were new. They would probably fit him correctly, too. Not the way his current outfit was a little too high on the ankle, the shirt sleeves rolled up so nobody would be able to tell it only went to about the middle of his forearm.

"Katya will be jealous of this." But he was smiling as he said it, a mischievous glimmer in his one visible eye.

When the big man fell into the bed, it made a very audible whuff -- and Beauty had to clamp her hand quickly over her mouth to keep from laughing. It wasn't a malicious laugh; she was absolutely thrilled that he was pleased, thrilled that the City was letting her help. But even though he didn't seem the type to take easy offense, she didn't know, either. It was best not to giggle at the giant while he rolled around in bed.

"Well," Beauty said kindly, once she was no longer worried she'd open her mouth and giggles would fall out of it, "If you happen to see her out in the City, you just bring her right back here if she doesn't have a place, and she can stay here, too. Here --" And Beauty dropped her key on the nightstand by the bed. "That's yours for as long as you need it. I'm sure I have another one here somewhere."

And sure enough, an answering weight in her pocket made her smile again. She was going to have to thank Thomas good and properly when she got somewhere private, where no one could give her weird looks for talking 'to herself.'

"If I am honest, I would have brought her here without your permission." Piotr admitted, still face down in the bed. "It is rude, but she is my Katya."

And he couldn't bring himself to feel badly about it, either. It wasn't his home, but he would have still opened it up to the other mutant. And her dragon, for that matter. All without asking his hostess.

He sat up finally, turning on the bed and picking up the clothes. They would do well here, and if he had to go back, on that planet as well. He felt like a kid, almost, being given things like this, being in somebody else's care like this.

"You are very kind for all of this. How may I thank you?"

"Oh, Monsieur Rasputin, you've already thanked me. Besides, it's all the City's doing, really. If anything, I think I should be thanking you for being the catalyst that gave me a bigger home!"

She didn't need a bigger cottage, not for herself. But she loved the idea of helping out where she could, and she loved that the City was helping her do it. Honour was quickly slipping into one of her smilefests that might not stop for a good few hours. This was a very good feeling, knowing that the City knew what she really wanted to be doing. This was good. This was good.

"You should tell me about your Katya. What does she look like? I'd hate to accidentally miss her on the street, if I passed her."

What else would he need? Shower, clothes.... did she tell him already that he had the full run of the kitchen? Oh, she should do that, too...

"Is not a gift from me." Piotr shook his head. What this place did on his behalf or whatever else, it wasn't a direct thank you in his mind. He'd think of something though.

He stood to show how tall Kitty was, bumping his head on a light fixture that wasn't quite short enough. "Svoloch." He grunted and rubbed at the spot. He looked at the thing like it would apologize to him.

"She is this tall." He held his hand up to the middle of his chest, about a foot lower than his six foot six inch frame. "She has red brown hair and hazel eyes. Very fit. She might have with her a tiny purple dragon. That would be the best way to know. Otherwise just ask if her name is Kitty Pryde. Her clothes will look not much better than mine. That should also make her stand out in the middle of a city."

"Kitty Pride," Honour repeated, fixing the details Piotr shared with her firmly to the name in her memory. "If I see her, I'll bring her back here; I promise. And if you see anyone else who might need a place, and if you know them to be good, you just bring them here, okay?"

Yes, she was well in the throes of a smilefest. This was wonderful. She wanted to go out into the City and look for Kitty Pride right now this very minute! She wanted to run around and see if anyone else wearing die Festung livery was to be found in her home. What was the City up to?

It didn't matter right now. There was a chance for hope for some of these people and Beauty really wanted to see it through.

"I'll leave you to yourself, then. You just help yourself to whatever you find in the kitchen that looks good, all right? And feel free to come and go as you'd like. If you find a place that suits you better, just leave your key on the table just beside the front door, and I'll know you're okay."

She gave him one of the smilefest grins, and then stepped backward through his bedroom door. It was going to be a very long time before she forgot the giant who rolled around in a bed like it was heaven. She hoped she never forgot it at all.

"See you around, Monsieur Rasputin!"
