Bloody and Sugar Deprived (Open)
Rufio left the hospital still a bit dizzy from giving his blood to the doctor, but otherwise wide awake after eatting that yellow cake thing Hank had given him. It had been pretty good, and did help somewhat with the dizziness.

The young man decided to go get more, so dropping his skateboard to the floor he hopped on it and took off down the street, winding up at a small convenience mart where they sold sodas and snacks. Heading in he ignored the owner who gave him a withering look for bringing his sword in the shop, and instead went to search for the little cakes.

He found them fairly quickly and grabbed a few, paying quickly and then heading out front to sit on the curb and enjoy his treat, his board resting next to him as he tried to work out how to open the plastic wrapper without hurting his hand too much. Even grabbing the whole thing was making the cut on his palm pull and start to bleed a little bit again.

He looked at the bandage and the red straining the center of his palm, but then shrugged and let it go, picking up his sword and carefully using the tip to slice through the plastic wrapper. Overkill? Yes. Oddly satisfying to watch the sword nearly cut through the entire package in under a second? Definitely.

"I guess so. I dunno, nobody's ever asked for my blood before," Rufio said, a little defensively. He shrugged. "If you're afraid of pain it keeps you from doing stuff. It can get you killed. So I can't worry about that."

He grinned at her trying to salavge the cake, but then floated upright. "No? People are supposed to get their homes when they get here. But if you need someplace to stay you can come with me to my fort. It's got lots of room to build another sleep place."

When she asked about him being immortal he shrugged. "I don't want to die. I've been a kid ever since I can remember, and I don't want to grow up either. But I don't have a choice here, so I'll become and man and then be immortal. Keep killing pirates and the mayor, and keep flying." He shrugged. Then he looked at her for a long moment. "You're one of the ones who wanna grow up, huh?"

"Nobody's ever--where are you even from, anyway? Oh, I mean--if you're from somewhere where they don't have good medical care or something, that's not your fault and it's really rude of me to have brought it up, and I'm sorry for that in that case, but it's still really weird."

Foot now firmly inserted in mouth, she flew over to actually sit on the roof. Flying was fun, but hovering in one place took a lot of energy. She settled down, dangling her legs over the side of the building. "Well... maybe. But I haven't actually gone looking for a home yet, have I? I'm only passing through." She nodded firmly. Except... this place wasn't so bad, really. Nobody had even so much as shot at her yet. That was nice. "...a fort. Really, that's... that's nice, but no thanks," she said, smiling. "I'm paid up at the motel for another two nights. I suppose that'll give me some time to look for a home if I can't get out, won't it?" She frowned, her wings drooping as well. "I'm not going to be able to get out of here, am I?"

She raised an eyebrow at Rufio's plan for immortality. "Really? Killing people forever, that's your plan?" She scoffed. "Yeah, I want to grow up. I want to die old in my bed with lots of loved ones around me. I'll be lucky if I get to twenty, much less old old."

Rufio drifted over to rest next to her, keeping close but not too close so she wouldn't feel the need. "I'm from Neverland. The pirates have a doctor, but usually he just decides they're too sick and shoots them. Us Lost Boys look after ourselves," he said.

When she mentioned not being able to leave he went quiet, looking out over the City. "Not that I've heard, no. And me and some pixies were trying, too, but you can't even fly out of here. You just hit this... wall thing, then you can't go anymore. All of the Old people say you can never leave unless the City decides to let you." She looked sad, and he reached out with his good hand, awkwardly patting her shoulder. "It's not so bad though. I mean, you miss people from home but the City's got a lot of cool stuff in it if you know where to look."

When she dismissed his plan he snorted. "Of course it is, what else would I do?" he retorted. "I'm Rufio Pan, I'm the best there is at killing pirates and not being killed. And there are always more pirates to fight. My friends were there to die next to me in the wars, but mostly we just go on and on forever. It's old people who die more. Fighting doesn't get you into trouble, growing up does."

"That doctor sounds terrible," she said. "I bet he wasn't even a real doctor, just someone who liked being called that. Doctors aren't supposed to hurt people, I think they have to take an oath or something like that." Of course, then there was Doctor Nemesis, but he was... well, he was nice enough, but he had guns. Maybe she wasn't completely right on the oath thing, but she was pretty sure she'd heard it somewhere, and... anyway.

"Oh." She rested her chin on one hand, letting him pat her shoulder. "That's not so terrible," she finally said. "I mean, if this city gives you a home, and if it's nice--it is nice, isn't it?" she asked, somewhat anxiously. "It seems like it so far, but lots of things seem that way at first and then it all turns around on you in the end."

Oh God. She rolled her eyes. "Killing isn't a game," she said hotly. "This isn't like a video game or something, it's real life. People die, and it doesn't matter how old or young they are. And you don't have to be old to get in trouble--I should know. You want to know how many of my friends died young who weren't fighting or causing any trouble? They weren't even a threat to anyone." She balled up her hands into white-knuckled fists. "Growing up means you lived."

Rufio shrugged. "He's a grownup. A pirate. They're all bad guys. I'm gonna be different, but still." Things were black and white to him, even if he was finding exceptions in this place like Red.

"It's not a bad City, but don't trust it. It messes with you... turns you into stuff sometimes, but that kind of thing goes away after a little bit," he fidgeted with the hem of his spiked vest and how he was sitting. "I dunno what happens a lot, I haven't been here long, but that's the stories." He was a big believer in stories.

Then she was getting mad at him, like a lot of people did when he mentioned the games. Honestly he wasn't sure what everybody was so upset about. "Life is a game," he responded, looking at her with a grin. He didn't mind people being angry with him, though he didn't prefer it. If it was one thing he could say about Hook; it was that generally the man had a sense of humor about thier games and only got mad if he lost, which was to be expected. "If you don't play you lose. Being a grownup or a kid? Doesn't matter." He poked her shoulder. "Pirates will kill you if you're a Lost Boy or an Indian, if you're big or little, if you get in their way or try to hide. They don't care. All you can do is kill them first and not be afraid of them. If you're afraid you can't have fun anymore, and if you can't have fun there's no point in staying a kid. That's when people give up and grow up. At least, in Neverland. It's not a choice here, so I dunno. Maybe the rules are different."

He could admit when the game was strange to him. Still, she was a girl, and maybe that's why she and the Zoe woman didn't get why it was still a game anyway. He put a hand on the hilt of his golden sword. "It's why you keep friends around. To still have fun and to help you. If you want, we can be friends, and I'll protect you if the City decides to try and mess with us. We can watch each other's backs... unless you don't fight. That's cool, Wendy never fought either. I'll still help you."

"They're not all bad," Megan said loyally. Even if sometimes she had her doubts, because it seemed like all the adults in her life were terrible people who made really bad decisions for everyone around them, her and her friends included.

She looked down at the street and kicked her feet. "I guess that's that," she said, more resigned than anything else. "I can make do with it."

Megan stared at him, black eyes wide and aghast. "It's not a game," she said, taken aback. "I've never met a pirate. I've met demons and religious extremists and all sorts of other nutters, and they never thought it was a game. Games are fun. You play, someone wins, you go home in the end. You don't get blown up and end up with the pieces someone gathers up in a hole in the ground or burned up because there isn't any ground to bury you in or whatever. You--" She made a sound of frustration and threw her hands up in the air. "You know what? Fine. It's all a game. Maybe it is different here. It'd be really awesome if that's the case." And it would be. She'd like to think that maybe here, things were more a game of baseball or something than a real life war. She gave Rufio a cocky smile, cheered at the thought. "And who says I don't fight? I may not like to, but that doesn't mean I can't."

"Hm. Guess not. But they are where I'm from," Rufio shrugged and looked away. He didn't know what to do about her resignation, but she seemed ok with what had happened. Plus she didn't mind growing up, so it was probably easier for her to be stuck here. He wasn't going to try to understand her or any other girl around.

When she got upset with him he still looked away, letting her say her peice and then shrugging. "Staying alive is winning, because then the others are dead and you get to live in peace," he said, moving closer to the edge of the building. He drew his sword and held the blade out in front of him, examining the golden weapon and remembering how many pirates it sliced through. There were a lot of memories in the reflection of the metal, sometimes he almost thought he could see them. Like shadows in the corner of his eye.

"If it's not a game, what is it?" he asked, turning the blade and then stabbing it forward into the air before flipping it up, watching it arc and then catching it by the hilt again. "Some of us get blown up by cannons or shot or stabbed or hanged. Some of us die other ways when the pirates capture them and get bored. But I'd never surrender, and niether will of the others, no matter who they decide the next Pan should be. We're the Lost Boys and we'll fight 'til we win or lose. If I can't be home with them, helping there, then I'll fight the pirates in this City. And that's how I'll die, crossing swords with the Mayor or anybody else who steps forward to lead the bad guys around here."

He did look over her when she mentioned fighting, and grinned. "You can fight with me, if you want. We'd probably make a good team, and when you fight with friends it's easier to stay alive longer."

"Monopoly, that's a game. Checkers. Freaking Trivial Pursuit is a game. Blowing people up and stabbing and... hanging? Really?! Wow, that's so far from being a game, I don't..." Megan ran a hand through her hair and huffed out a breath, forcing her buzzing wings to stillness. Okay, he probably wasn't going to get it and she was just getting angry. But seriously, hanging? What kind of awful place was this guy from, anyway?

Okay, think calm. "I'm not exactly planning on fighting anyone here if I can help it, though. I'm kind of on leave from that sort of thing at the moment. Where I'm from, if you blow someone up, they don't come back." At least, none of her friends ever had, she thought sadly. "And it's not so much fun as it is terrifying and awful. But... you know, if you really need help or something, I'm not the sort to just leave someone behind." She shrugged, a little abashed at her earlier show of bravado. Honestly, someone makes some kind of insinuation that maybe she can't fight and she's got to go and run her mouth, even when she was trying to be low-key. Or, as low-key as someone with pink hair, pointy ears, and wings could be. Stupid pride. "And... thanks. For the offer. Hopefully neither of us need it."

"Hey, I'm ready to learn a new game," Rufio leaned forward, looking the girl up and down. She was definitely upset with him. He turned around and looked at her. "It's a game as long as there's a winner. Doesn't mean the game's fun, but we gotta play. Hook and his crew will come at us no matter what, and we're not going to just let them wipe us out."

He smirked a little when she mentioned coming back. "Nobody comes back from being dead. That's a whole other adventure. The place might even be better than Neverland, you know? You get to see your old pals again."

He sheathed his sword and leaned back over the edge of the building, stretching. "Ok then. We'll start our own crew here. To keep from getting caught alone. Doesn't mean we all have to hang out together, but, at least now we know where to go for games and fights and protection and stuff. And if there's only two of us we don't have to figure out who's the Pan yet."

"Fine," she said, a little desperately. "As soon as I'm settled in, we'll play Settlers of Catan or something. Sheep and wood all around. And nobody dies." She emphasized that part especially, staring him right in the eyes. Seriously, just what.

She leaned forward when he leaned back, folding her legs up and looking out over the street. "Sure," she said. "Who's the... whatsit, right. You know, half the time I don't have a clue what you're talking about, but that's okay." She smiled at him to prove her point, one corner of her mouth quirking up. "You know, even if you weren't possibly a mutant or at least some kind of metahuman or whatever they call them you're still the first person to really talk with me here, so that's something. So do you really live in a fort, because that actually is kind of awesome."

Settlers of Catan? Well that sounded pretty cool. "Ok. Don't see why anybody would have to die if it was me and you, anyway. Unless you attacked me. Or somebody else attacked us," he paused thoughtfully.

When she mentioned not understanding him he laughed. He felt that way all the time here. "Nobody understands. Like I care. But yeah, I live in a fort. It's pretty huge, too, and full of cool stuff."

She rubbed the back of her head uncomfortably. "Well, you never know. People tend to attack me and everyone around me for no good reason." Mutations weren't a good reason to be jerks to others, Megan reasoned. Therefore: no good reason. "Just so you know."

She grinned back at him, though, relieved. "That's okay, people don't understand me sometimes, either. I think it's my accent, or maybe just because I talk fast sometimes, I don't know. I don't think I've ever been in a fort, unless you count Utopia," she said thoughtfully. "Except that's more of an island than a fort, so I'm not sure if it does count. Is it like a treehouse fort or a wooden thingy in the woods with a pointy fence around it fort? Also, do you get internet out there?"

"You too?" Rufio asked. Of course, he often incurred the wrath of the others when he taunted them, or stole from them, or attacked them himself, but lots of times they seemed to hold grudges that didn't make too much sense.

"You don't talk to fast. Speedy, now, he talked fast... but usually you could just push him and he'd slow down," he grinned wolfishly. "No, it's a really big building, and the inside I built the Lost Boys' city for here. It's a lot bigger than the tree I lived in back home." In some ways it was cooler, too, though he still missed the old place. "I dunno what internet is, but there's lots of food places nearby usually, so maybe we could find it?"

She shrugged and let the question pass. It hadn't happened here, and that was the important thing. Positive thinking! New start! Maybe it never would here. She clung to that thought hopefully.

Megan looked at him, nonplussed. After everything else he'd said, of course he didn't know what the internet was. "I'll show you sometime," she settled on saying. "It's really something you've got to experience for yourself." Besides, she had no idea how to begin. It was just there, you know? "Anyway. I should go." She hopped up, off of the building, but up instead of down thanks to fluttering wings.

He stood quickly, watching her float. He smiled. She was a fairy, a pixie, and so maybe a friend that was important to keep. Not that he had enough friends here to be choosey, but still. A kid needed to remember who should be better friends than anybody else.

"Ok. My fort has a hole in the roof from a storm, but it's a good building. It's big and flat and I painted a tree on the top, but, don't come in through the hole. There's traps and stuff," he said. He'd painted the tree as a signal to any other Lost Boys who might show up, it was a portrait of the Lost Boys' home back in Neverland, as best as he remembered. "See you later. Don't get eaten by any crocs."
