Roomies (tag: Murphy)
It had taken Rose a bit of time to find a supermarket in her neighborhood. Out of habit, she took the turns that would have led her to the grocer she used to use, but in this place, of course, there was no store there. Instead there had been an art gallery. Which might not be there if she went back. That was very difficult to get used to, and Rose still wasn’t convinced she wasn’t dreaming.
But as a pragmatic (at least in her own mind) farm girl, on the off chance that this wasn’t a dream, there were certain realities that needed to be dealt with. She was still in search of a job, though she was doing her volunteer work. But since she still wasn’t getting Charlie’s pension, Rose needed to find a way to make some money before she ran through all of her savings. Also, she needed a roommate or two.
At first, she’d resisted the idea. After all, it wasn’t really her house. It belonged to Blanche. But Blanche was nowhere to be found. Neither were Dorothy or Sophia, and Rose was very lonely. Not to mention worried. And after weathering the recent storms by herself, it was more clear than ever that the house was far too empty. Besides, if Blanche did show up, Rose didn’t want to tell her that she had lost the house because she hadn’t been able to pay the property taxes by herself.
So she drafted an ad for what she was looking for and set out to find the local supermarket. Now that she was here, she took a moment to peruse the flyers that were already stuck to the board. Biting her lip, she noted there were quite a few, but most of them looked to be for home businesses. None for jobs, which she could have used. With a little shrug, she reached up and stuck her own ad right in the middle.
Since this was how she’d originally met the girls, after Blanche had done this very thing in their local grocery store, Rose had a good feeling about this. She was going to find just the right temporary roommates.
