Knight on the Loose (open)
Sir Guy had searched for quite some time before he actually found a rope. He was actually surprised when he went into a room and found what he had been searching for. He was pleased to know that he would be able to escape and get those girls out of this prison. It had been a long time since things had gone his way. Guy smirked; doubting that Hood could have planned a better escape.
He slipped the rope under his robe and started walking down the hall. He just needed to get back to the girls and hope they had come up with a good distraction. They would be out of here within the hour unless something stopped him. Something like the men that were walking towards him right now. Guy cursed softly and turned to walk in the other direction.
“Mr. Gisborne?” one of the men called after him. Guy had no idea what that form of address meant, but he wasn’t going to stop to find out. The attendant looked down at his clipboard. “I’m sorry. Lord Gisborne, we have your release ready. If you’ll come to your room, please?”
Guy hesitated, not sure if he should trust these strange people. But if they were going to let him go free…. Maybe he should go see what they were talking about. Besides, neither of the two men looked very big or strong. There was also a chance that someone did pay his ransom. His sister, maybe, or even more unlikely, Vassey came through for him. Whoever it was would have his gratitude. Guy nodded once and headed back to the room he had awakened in that morning.
There, on his bed, were his clothes. His real clothes. Black leather. His sword was there, too. That was the most surprising thing of all. He could not believe they would let him have arms before he left their prison. Guy was not about to look this gift horse in the mouth. He turned his back on the men and after hiding his rope under his mattress, he quickly changed back into his usual attire. He strapped his sword belt on and looked at the two men.
“Now, if you can just sign here or just make your mark.”
“I am no peasant,” Guy snarled. “I am quite capable of writing.” He snatched the pen and clipboard and quickly signed his name.
“Yes. Thank you. Now if you will follow Bob here out to the gate, your transportation back to The City is waiting.” Guy just grunted in response and followed the other man outside. He almost smiled when he saw that the transportation that was waiting for him was Rupert. They were even giving him his horse back. This was the strangest prison he had ever been in.
He did smile as he patted his horse’s neck. He had been worried about the steed and was very happy to find him looking so well. He quickly swung up into the saddle and started to ride away from the prison. He was happy to show that place his back. But he had not forgotten about the two girls he had been planning to escape with. He would just have to go back and demand their release. He turned Rupert around, but the road he had been on was gone.
There was no going back. The girls were on their own. He wished them luck and hoped their ransom would be paid quickly. He gently kicked Rupert, encouraging the horse to keep heading into The City. He was curious about what next strange thing he would discover would be.
