Walk #4 completed~

Got to the park later then I had planned but I ended up getting a nice walk in. I walked all the way up the Mcginnis Ferry Rd parking from Suwanee Creek Park, nearly 2 miles. Could have done more, but it was getting dark and the parks close at sunset. Last night is also my flame shift so I needed to be home at sundown.

It was so lovely. I walked through a native plant reserve, natural wetlands, etc. The trees towered over the path on every side making me feel small. I saw animals play in the ending of the day. I was never more at peace. Can't wait until next weekend!

So, I'm announcing same place same time for this week!

Friendly reminder to comment here if you want to join me and I'll give details of where to meet. See you there!

Suwanee Creek Park, Walk #4

I really enjoyed myself at Suwanee Creek Park, so I'm going back this Sunday. Friday I might as well but most likely will be too busy. Meeting a friend, going to Weight Watchers for that meeting, and then I have a tupperware party! LOL

So, maybe if I get my apartment cleaned and ready the next two nights, I'll be able to squeeze in a walk with my lil' munchkin.

Please comment if you would like to join me and I'll give you details. :)

I'm reprinting the trail map so I can walk on a different part of the trail this time.

Went walking at Suwanee Creek Park

I loved it! We'll be doing more walks there this sommer. I had a choice between a paved path and trails in the woods. I tried both for 40 minutes and got so much more out of my WW walking workout.

I managed 40 minutes at what is considered high intesity. I feel so good. Wish my pool was open, but not yet. Hopefully by next weekend. I'm going walking then treating myself to a light dinner of fruit, hummas, and maybe a tortilla wrap filled with my favorite salad mix. :) Then swimming! HORAH!

Walk this week @ Suwanee Creek Park

Come hell or high water (whichever comes first anyhow!) I'm hitting the trail at Suwanee Creek Park at 6pm on Sunday. Join me if you will! It'll be fun!

Comment here so I'll know to wait a bit for any other walkers then Elora and I are off. *wink*

I've 100 pounds to lose and a healthier lifestyle to gain. :)

Walk #3!

Barely got a few minutes of walking and didn't make it to Suwanee Creek park this weekend past. Was way too busy being mom's day and all.

So this week we'll go again to Suwanee Creek Park. Comment here for info and I'll give it to ya! We won't do the whole trail yet, but before the summer is totally over, I think we just might. *squee*

Yikes! I thought Iposted this here! Info on Walk #2...Sorry folks!

I found a wonderful park in Suwanee a co-worker was telling me about. :) I heart google sometimes!

Anyhow, here's the address: 1170 Highway 23 NW
Suwanee, GA 30024
if you want to Yahoo Map or the craptastic Mapquest. It's going to take me about 8 minutes to get there. I googled Suwanee Area Parks and found the this tantalizing description:

"It’s time to run...walk...pedal...stroll...and roll! The Suwanee Creek Greenway is a hard-surface, multipurpose trail that meanders through four miles of wooded areas, wetlands, and wildlife habitat. The original trail was constructed in the early 1990s; a three-mile extension was opened in May 2004. The greenway connects nearly 400 acres of parkland as well as residential and commercial areas.

Walkers, joggers, bikers, rollerbladers, and others can access the trail at a variety of locations. The trailhead is located at Suwanee Creek Park, 1170 Buford Highway."

So I'm going to try it out this week and we may possibly do this trail next week. I have a map of the trail from the website and can make all the copies needed.

Just leave a comment if you want to come this week. I'll repost this for next week if it is a manageable walk. If the difficulty level is too high for some of the group, we'll pick something easier and save this one for later. *wink* I'm trying to get us all out and moving for health *and* enjoyment, I'm not trying to kill anyone here. LOL

*reposting for my non-IJ friends. :)

Walk #1 completed

Thanks to <lj user="iruka_yuywell" for joining me at Shorty Howell Park. I was coming from Cumming so I got there at 6:20pm and bless her, she waited. We got in almost 3 miles (or there abouts, anyhow) so we treated ourselves to some Starbucks nearby so I could Elora some yogurt. She had a strawberry/banana parfait (I took out the granola as she doesn't have 'that' many teeth yet *grins*) and she ate the whole thing! Oh my goodness! It was getting late and she worked up an appetite. LOL. Strolling around must be harder than it looks. :) Will post the destination for the next walk by Wednesday! Happy walking!

Reminder! Walk #1

We'll be walking at 6pm at Shorty Howell Park, rain or shine. A little rain won't hurt us, folks, however, if there is thunder and lightning, we won't walk of course.

If I see inclimate weather reports, I'll be sure to cancel a walk. I keep an eye on weather reports up until at least an hour before we get together.

I'm so happy I have folks interested. My friend (IJ less Mel) has to work so we'll catch up with her next week.

Charity walks

Just an FYI, I'm getting ready to do a charity walk for Alzheimer's research in October. It's a 3 mile walk in Duluth Square. Let me know if you want to join me. We'll work together with fund raising efforts. My sister, Jenn, will be walking with me.

We'll also do a cancer walk this year and I'll post details as soon as I have them. My goal is eventually doing the 3-day Avon walk but I don't foresee that until 2010. I'm taking this year and next to train and raise money. So anyone wanting to do a team for that, let me know. I'm willing to coordinate teams for charity walks anytime.

Thanks!

*public service announcement from your mod* *grins*

Ok, we'll start with a simple walk

Join me at 6pm at Shorty Howell Park in Duluth. It's on Pleasant Hill road across from the Walmart. It has a nicely paved 1.25 mile track that I plan on getting 3 miles on. (4 if I'm feeling froggy or it's still light enough out).

This link should give you directions but email me if you need to and let me know where you are coming from. http://trails.mtbr.com/cat/united-states-trails/trails-georgia/trail/PRD_167650_4541crx.aspx

Bring plenty of water. Mosquitoes are a bitch so if you are prone to being feasted on where plenty of your favorite bug spray. If you aren't, still where plenty of bug spray. Don't want anyone coming down with West Nile or anything. I have a pedometer so I can keep track of our miles.

Just comment and let me know you are coming. I'll wait 10 minutes past our walk start time to give someone time to get there then I'm off and walking.
Can't wait to see you there!

OH, this trail is fairly easy and good for beginners btw.
