Who: Sally Anne and Michael
What: Helping her get out of a bind!
When: Tonight!
Where: Near the pub
Rating: TBD

Sally Anne Perks was a different girl than she was a few weeks ago, literally. Of course, some people hadn’t managed to pick up on that fact yet, despite the fact that the only thing that seemed to remain the same was her physical appearance. Sally Anne was displaced, and the girl who walked inside her body was much more timid, sweet, and much, much more innocent. You could see it that evening not only the way she held herself, but in the way she dressed. Sally had a bit of trouble finding more conservative things in Sally’s closet, but she’d made do by supplementing with cardigans, like the one she had on today.

Apparently, however, the two men in front of her did not seem to grasp the differences.

“Sally Anne!” Sally looked up at the sound of her name, offering a smile to the unfamiliar faces.

“Er-“ she began, only to be interrupted again.

“Where have you been?” Sally’s lips parted, but she was cut off as the man’s arm came around her shoulders. “You never stop by anymore!” Sally shifted uncomfortably as she moved out from under the man’s arm, only to stumble into the chest of the next who lingered uncomfortably close.

“I’m sorry,” she said quickly. “I’m not who you think I am.”

“Nah, you’re Sally Anne! I’d recognize you anywhere!” He reached for her waist, but she quickly backed away, earning a frown.

“No, I mean, yes, I am Sally Anne, but-“

“So where are you going then?” The first man grabbed her hand. “Have a drink with us!”

“I really-“ Her cheeks flushed as she spoke. “I can’t.” His other hand had somehow found its way back to her hip. "I need to go."

After another long day at work, Michael was ready for the pubs. He could taste that cool pint of beer on his lips just avidly thinking about it. The holidays were usually a time to regain his energy, relax and spend it with his family, but the throw over he received for Christmas, along with the haul of Displaced that had recently come in, still had him reeling.

Walking briskly down main street, Michael was on his way to the Bay Horse to meet with Terry when he spied two blokes ganging up on a girl - a girl that happened to be Sally Anne. With his chivalry instincts kicking in, Michael hurried his pace.

"Oi!" he called out, grabbing their attention as he met with Sally Anne, "These blokes bothering you, love?" he asked the petite brunette.

"Michael!" Sally Anne's voice was laced with obvious relief as the man she had, in fact, run into on her very first day here in Veritas appeared. He had calmed her down and escorted her to the hospital where she worked so that she could settle in. His help had, of course, instantly put him in to her ranks of favorite people.

The taller of the two men (who didn't have Sally's hand) turned toward Michael, frowning. "She's fine. We're getting drinks. Old friend of ours."

Sally Anne's face clearly showed she did not have any wish to go along with them as she met Michael's gaze with widened eyes. "Um. Michael. Weren't we supposed to be meeting up for drinks tonight?" she blurted out unconvincingly. Sally Anne never had been a good liar. She didn't like lying. In fact, she felt a small twinge of guilt lying even now when it was for all the right reasons.

Sally Anne looked like a trapped doe between two mangy hunters. She obviously did not want to be in that situation as she called out to him.

"Oh, really?" Michael said in response to the taller man with disbelief, "That's funny." Old friends to Sally Anne like this sleazy bloke meant they were no friends now.

Nodding, Michael turned to the two blokes, his own hand flicking away the man's hand from semi-petrified girl.

"Sorry boys," he said, not at all apologetic, "she's with me tonight."

Sally Anne quickly shuffled around Michael so that he was conveniently placed between her and the two men, looping her arm through his. "Right. With him," she added uselessly. "Have a good night, yeah?"

The men looked less than pleased, but didn't appear to be looking for a fight as they lumbered off. Sally Anne watched them go, before letting out a sigh of relief.

"I'm really sorry about that. Thank you for helping."

Satisfied as the men decided to shuffle along with their metaphorical tails between their legs, Michael smiled at Sally Anne and shook his head, "It was no problem, love. Any time you're in need, count on me," he said with a wink.

Patting the hand that looped through his arm, he nodded towards the pub just a few feet in sight.

"Would you like to really get a drink with me or do you have someone to hustle off to?" he asked.

Sally laughed softly. "Well, I hope I won't have to rely on you too often." She watched the men go and sighed softly. "It's really not their fault, honestly. They're used to... a different version of me. I'm sure the Sally they knew would have been much more excited to see them."

She turned her attention to the pub he gestured to. Sally Anne was not much of a drinker. She'd dabbled in a few wine coolers, but only one or two, and she had certainly never been drunk. "Oh. Well, I suppose one drink wouldn't hurt." Besides, in the event that those men turned around, she could at least be heading into the pub with him.

"Hopefully," Michael repeated before adding with a sly lift of his lips, "but I wouldn't mind if that were the case." Listening to the demure brunette speak of her different self didn't jar Michael - he was used to it by now, of course - but he still asked, "Has this kind of thing been happening to you often?" He referred to the men that slightly accosted her.

"Good on you!" he cheered, leading the way to the pub. He really needed his drink.

Sally Anne couldn't help the soft blush that took over her cheeks. It wasn't every day you had a handsome healer swooping in to save you and being enthusiastic about it nonetheless. "You're sweet," she answered, offering a small smile.

"Not like this usually," she explained. "People just expect me to act a lot differently, and I've been getting some..." Her blush deepened. "Interesting owls and fire calls."

She followed him as they walked. "You may have to order for me, though. I have no idea what I like."

Michael shot her a winning smile back, "Thanks. But I'm sure it's nothing comparable to how sweet you are."

"Oh," the brunette said, eyes wide, "I see. Well.. Usually the cases with most Displaced involve having been someone entirely opposite." Not many cases came in where the changes were slight.

"Oh really?" he answered curiously, pulling open the door to the pub and gesturing her in. By her words, Michael didn't figure her for much of a drinker.

"We'll try to find something pleasing to your palette, then."

That comment did absolutely nothing for her blush, which, if anything, darkened slightly. It did have her smiling, though, as she ducked her head and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Yes. It does seem to be the case in this instance." She glanced up at him. "Though I wouldn't say you're a complete opposite from the Michael I know. You're just... more charming."

He was right on target with her drinking habits, and she couldn't help but offer a sheepish smile. "I've never been much of a drinker, but I trust your judgment."

Michael knew how impressionable his comment was and how it made the shy girl blush. His grin perked.

"Really, now?" How interesting that his other self would not be far off from how he is now.

"Is my other self in the medical field as well?" he questioned curiously as he pulled out a bar stool for her to sit on at the bar.

"Let's see.." he pondered aloud, rapping his knuckles against the counter as he seated himself, "do you prefer sweet or sour sorts of things?"

"Oh, yes." She smiled. "I mean, it's not that you weren't charming in the other place... time... thing, but you're just moreso now." It was a little strange, telling someone about themselves, but this was what people had been doing for ages with her, wasn't it? Explaining who she was supposed to be in the world she'd entered into? "No, actually," she answered thoughtfully. "I always found that difference rather interesting. He's an accountant." How different, working with money and people.

"Oh, sweet things." Shocker of the year, right? "Or, you know, both." She tried to hide her surprise that there were such things as sweet drinks.

Michael listened to Sally Ann with an open ear, but as soon as she mentioned accountant, a considerable crease of his brow became quite noticeable.

"Accountant, huh?" Interesting," he commented, brushing the tip of his chin with his fingers thoughtfully. An accountant is what his dad had wanted him to become.

Michael continued to rub his chin as he thought of a suitable drink for the moderated Sally Ann, "Hmm, all right then."

He gestured towards the barkeep and ordered his pint of beer, "And for the lady, could I get a Strawberry punch, please?" The brunette thanked him as he nodded and went off to rustle their drinks up.

Sally Anne hesitated at his reaction. "I mean, you seemed pretty happy with it." She added quickly. "People are just... different from where I'm from."

She watched him curiously as he ordered for her, a pretty pink drink that had her grinning when it appeared. "Oh wow." She hesitantly twirled her straw in it. "It smells fruity." She paused for a moment, before taking a sip. "It's good!" Was there alcohol in it? Maybe a little. She couldn't tell!

Michael chuckled, "Well, of course, the differences aren't that shocking. I was pretty close to becoming an accountant myself," he admitted.

"You like it, then?" he asked, observing her wide-eyed expression of shock. Rum in a drink wasn't as strong as other liquors when mixed properly. He pulled his beer contently closer and took a big satisfying gulp.
