Who: Raven and Axel
What: Intro'ing her to kit kats
Where: Somewhere near Griddy's
When: 10/12 | Evening
Warnings: TBD
Status: Ongoing

Raven, for the most part, had stuck close to Murphy upon arrival in Vallo. He was the only familiar person there. Not that it wasn't nice to talk to others, but he was a part of her life. Even if it was a crazy one. Though, one of the guys he'd talked to had her curious. What the hell were kit kats? Why was it strange for someone to never of had chocolate?

It probably wasn't a good idea. Strangers tended to either try to manipulate them or kill them. Whichever served their damn purpose. She's not sure what a Griddy's is or what a donut was, but she'd decided that there was a good place to stop. Or, at least, for the moment sit down. Take some of the pain off of her leg.

When she does see Axel, she gives him a slight smile even if it probably looked a bit pained to others," You must be Axel."

"Guilty as charged," he answered. He held out a hand in greeting. She looked a bit rough around the edges, like she probably wasn't settling into life in Vallo any easier than he was. It was a strange place, with unknown dangers and unknown elements. There was a lot to stress over, and not much to instill a sense of calm.

He felt like he was a breath away from a panic attack, and he wasn't prone to panicking. He'd lived through a vampire rising, after all, and had done pretty well for himself, in his own opinion. He was trained for combat, for adversity. Landing in this place had done nothing to quiet the raging waters that rumbled inside him.

But introducing someone who had never had chocolate to the joys of Kit Kats was something he could definitely get behind. Hopefully she'd like them. If not, well. He wouldn't take it personally, and that would just mean more Kit Kats for him.

"You must be Raven," he continued with a nod. He tried to relax his stance, so he appeared non threatening. He was of the opinion he could snap her in half if he wanted to. He had no desire to do so, or to appear as if he would do so without warning.

That hand of his gets a firm shake and she can't help but shake her head at the statement. Even if being guilty wasn't always a good thing. It reminded her too much of the Ark and what they did up there. Things that she didn't want to think about.

If anyone asked? She wasn't setting into Vallo life all that well. Murphy probably even noticed that. There had been so much of their life left behind. Things that needed to be taken care of. Things like that. Raven felt like she needed to get back into the swing of things. Needed something to do with her hands. Just anything.

"That would be me," she tells him, eyes watching him like a hawk. It was probably obvious to the man before her that she'd dealt with threats before. That even just something like this was possibly setting her on egdge a bit. "You doing good in this place?" Hopefully he'd found someone he was familiar with too. That made things a little easier.

"Honestly?" He tilted his head, studying her. Did she want the truth, or a bull shit answer that would maybe put her at ease? He wasn't sure anything could do that, though, so he opted for the truth. "No. I'd be lying if I said it was sunshine and roses," he added.

"But there's Kit Kats, anytime I want them. It's a small consolation prize, but I'll take it." He knew he was fixating on the Kit Kats because otherwise he'd have nothing to ground his focus on. His thoughts would be all over the place, and he needed to stay focused.

"Speaking of which, here." He handed her the bright red package. "Try this. I won't be offended if you don't like it," he assured her. He didn't know if that would be a concern, some people wanted to please others whatever the personal cost. If she didn't like it, he didn't want her to force herself to eat it.

Well, if asked she'd flat out tell him that she didn't want some bullshit answer. Truth was better than some answer that didn't have any meaning whatsoever to it. Though, at his statement she gives a nod," I'm not fond of this either. Myself and a friend would rather be elsewhere than here in Vallo." She couldn't really speak for Murphy, but she doubted he wanted to be there either.

There he went talking about the kit kats again. Something that she'd never even heard of. They'd had real food on Sanctum, but nothing called kit kats. Then there were the rations on the Ark.

She takes the bright red package and raises a brow before opening it. A part of her isn't sure what to make of it, but she does snap it in two before taking a bite out of one of the pieces. "Oh wow." Between the chocolate and the crunch, that was really good.

"See? It's really good, isn't it?" He hoped she agreed. It would be such a waste if she didn't like it. Not that he would let the rest of it go to waste, he'd take it back and eat it himself. But judging from her reaction that wasn't going to be an issue.

"That's what I missed. I mean, when the world went to shit, and the shops closed because the factories stopped producing and people were either taken to the Citidel or went into hiding, just trying to survive, that's what I missed. I was holed up in a hospital, and I raided all the vending machines, but the good stuff didn't last long." Even though he'd rationed it. Three years was a long time to be locked up, alone, or virtually alone.

"I'm going to have to save the other piece and have Murphy try it."

Oh, there was definitely no issue in the liking it department. She loved the taste of the chocolate and the crunch that the kit kat gave. She would have to shove this at Murphy and make him try it. That was how good it was.

When he mentions factories and such, she's got no clue what he's talking about. Hospitals, she wat least knew about. Earth books talked about those, for the most part. "I was born in space because the Earth was basically made inhabitable due to radiation. So up there? We didn't get the special things like chocolate. I'm sure the priveleged had it, but most of us? We lived off rations."

"Oh, yeah. I'm sure there wasn't a whole lot of this kind of stuff up there," he said. He couldn't fathom how someone could live on a space ship, like it sounded like she had. But he also thought it might be rude to ask too man questions, at least until he knew her better.

"Vampires took over the world a few years ago," he told her to explain why things like Kit Kats had been scarce for him. "But there was still some good stuff out there if you managed to find a shop that hadn't been ransacked." That didn't happen often, but it was always possible.

He rolled his shoulders. "Murphy's someone you know before?" Seemed logical, at least.

"Rations on the Ark and algae on the Ring," she tells him. Something that she didn't want to really think about. There was, at least, real food on Sanctum. Just not a lot of things like this. If there was then Russell had hid it pretty damn well.

When he mentions vampires again she can't help but frown," So, the vampires from the Earth books are real?" The only shops that she even knew of was the mechanic shop that had been on the Alpha moon. It was weird to hear things about vampires and shops being ransacked. Though, she guessed it was weird for him to hear about someone being in space.

"Yeah, Murphy's one of the guys I know from back home. He's here too and just like me he's never had this stuff."

"Algae?" Axel made a face at that. Algae didn't seem like something anyone would want to eat. but he supposed in a situation where that's all there was, then you'd eat it to survive. Kind of like the split pea soup he'd had way too often when he'd been holed up in the hospital.

"Well, you and Murphy are going to get to experience a lot of new stuff, then. Not just food. But other things too, that you probably never had." That would be kind of interesting, he thought. To experience food and other things for the first time.

He sighed. "Yes. Where I come from, vampires are very real." He knew, first hand. He'd been one, but he didn't think that was something he needed to share.

"It's all we had for six years."

Something that Raven didn't want to even think about. The Ring hadn't been that bad and she'd had a lot to focus on there. Then again, she'd had the lab on The Ring too. She does, however, give him a slight smile.

"I'm sure it'll be an interesting adjustment for the both of us." Neither of them had lived on the ground without the need for survival. Every turn they'd made, they'd needed to protect themselves. Which made her wonder about the world they were in now.

"Well, I don't know if there's anything like that here. We haven't been here that long, or at least I haven't. Murphy's probably been here a bit longer. So, hopefully, that's not something you have to worry about."

Axel shook his head. Nothing but algae for six years. That sounded like a nightmare. A very different nightmare from what he'd lived through, but a nightmare all the same.

"No, the vampires don't seem to be a problem. At least not like they were back home." The shops were open, the society was functional. It would take some adjusting, for hima nd for Vanessa, for Raven and her friend too.

"It's good you have someone from home here. I think that helps." Having Vanessa there to focus on had definitely helped him. He would have been all right without her, certainly But having her there kept him from freaking out too much wen he'd first arrived.

If asked, she'd probably explain that it was a nightmare. Algae wasn't something that she ever wanted to have ever again. Though, she had a feeling that it wouldn't be a good thing if her or Murphy decided that chocolate was an always thing.

"What were they like back home? You don't have to tell me, but you say the ones here aren't a problem. How big of a problem were they back where you're from?" She asks watching him before shifting her weight a bit. Anything to alleviate the pain in her leg.

She can't help but smile a little at that," It does help. Hopefully, it's good for you too here. Someone to keep you sane."

"They took over the world. Either killed, or captured most people they encountered. Turned some to make an army." He shrugged. "It was hell. You couldn't go out unless you had a plan. And there was no guarantee. They kept mutating and." He shrugged again. There was so much more he could say, but she didn't need a full history of the vampires he knew. "Here, they seem to keep to themselves," he said.

"It helps. Vanessa is my sanity." When he didn't want to kill her. But he'd gotten past that, thankfully. He was still angry about Scarlett's death, but he decided not to blame Vanessa for it. Scarlett made her choice.

Took over the world. That sounded a bit more than dangerous. Especially when he goes to explain that most eople were captured or killed. It made her think of some of the idiots they dealt with back home. Except that those people hadn't been vampires. "Well, I'm glad that you don't have to deal with any of that."

At the mention of Vanessa, though, she can't help but smile. "Good. Keep a hold of that. You never know when you could lose that person."

Axel was acutely aware of how easily a person could be lost. Erased from your life as if they were never there, except for the gaping hole in your heart. He'd had it happen to him more times than he could count. Thankfully he had come to realise Vanessa was one of the ones he wanted to keep close.

Maybe because he had lost her too, multiple times. Not to death, but to various forces beyond their control. "I will," He said, with a slight nod. "Life is fragile, people come and go. All you can do is love the ones you have with you now, and remember the ones you've lost."

"Life is fragile."

If there was one thing that Raven knew then it was that. How fragile something like life could be. They'd lost so much back home. So many people that meant the world to them. Something that was hard to even think about.

She gives him a soft smile," It's all anyone can do. I'm going to head back to Murphy. You should head back to your Vanessa." She didn't know if the woman was Axel's or not, in any sense of the word, but that didn't mean much at the moment. What did was getting back to the ones they cared a great deal for.
