Luke Skywalker & Han Solo
The truth of the matter was that it was easier to get over Han Solo when he wasn’t around... because Luke was an idiot and was either in love with or had a crush on a man he’d call family some day.
WHAT:Luke's sad. He remedies that by bothering Han
WHERE: Han's apartment
WHEN: October 3
WARNINGS:TBD
STATUS: In Progress

Luke had been in Vallo for five months. He’d spent a lot of that time trying to figure out where he fit in and, maybe, pining over someone who wasn’t there. He hadn’t admitted that to anyone though, he was sure, Stan knew. He had paused those holos of his life to rant about Han Solo. There was no way Stan didn’t know. The holos, however, had revealed a few horrible truths about his family and the father he’d idolized for so much of his life. It had also shown him that there was no sense in pining over Han. That charming disaster of a smuggler was meant for Leia and Luke… well, he supposed he was okay with that. He could see it even now. Maybe the two argued and bickered but there was the start of genuine care and affection beneath it all. It hadn’t hurt to see but it had reinforced the idea that he needed to move on. He needed to let go and find someone new.

It had actually seemed easy enough before Han had appeared. There were a number of handsome men around, there was speed dating, and then there was Todd. He was nice, he was warm, he was magic, and he didn’t seem to mind R2 going to him to rant about Luke. He was privy to certain aspects of Luke’s life and personality that not many others were. He’d enjoyed talking to the other men he’d been paired up with but he couldn’t help thinking most of them already had an eye for someone else. Todd, however, seemed genuinely happy to see him. Maybe it would’ve been the start to something if whatever pulled them into this place hadn’t decided to throw him for a loop.

The truth of the matter was that it was easier to get over Han Solo when he wasn’t around. When he was around, Luke was always going to seek him out and try to get under his skin. He was going to tease the older man and sort of orbit around him when they were trying to talk to other people. He was going to drag him to parties and stay entirely too close because Luke was an idiot and was either in love with or had a crush on a man he’d call family some day. The idea didn’t hurt that much but now that Todd had disappeared the idea that he should move on and let go had sort of gone up in flames. Add to that the fact that he hadn’t dealt with or talked to anyone about what he learned about his father and everything just felt horrible.

So Luke did what he assumed he was always going to do when things felt like too much: he tried to avoid those feelings. When that didn't work, however, he sought out Han. He left the temple early in the morning and found himself at the apartments, knocking on the older man’s door. He didn’t even think about the time and whether or not Han would be up until he was already there and had already knocked.

Vallo could be a lot. Since he'd blown up the Death Star, Luke had become used to people knowing his name. It was on a completely different level in Vallo but he'd been there long enough to get used to it. Part of him still wasn't used to the idea that there was no war to fight. No Empire to watch out for and no Darth Vader hounding his every step. Of course... now Luke knew how it would all shake out. He knew they'd win the war, which brought him a sense of peace, but he also knew who Darth Vader was. At this point in his life, he didn't know how to feel, even if there was a small part of himself that still thought he was a danger to his friends. He'd seen the lengths Vader would go to get to him.

Those feelings he didn't think he could talk to anyone about almost had him turning around and heading back to the temple. Han was probably asleep anyway. He'd never know Luke had been there. The moment he'd made up his mind to leave, however, the door swung open and Han was standing in front of him, awake but a little confused. He didn't cringe at the nickname the way he'd always told himself he should (He claimed not to like it but, really, he only liked it when Han used it) as he stepped into the apartment. "Usually." He admitted. "I just... I guess I just wanted to see you."

The clutter very nearly made him smile. Han hadn't been there long but his apartment already felt like the Falcon. It felt like a place closer to home than anywhere else in the galaxy... or Vallo. "No, I guess it's not but... you've managed to make it feel like home." He teased, as he made his way to the couch and take a seat. "How are you settling in?" Focusing on Han seemed like the better idea. Sure, he'd come because he'd lost a few friends and he knew entirely too much about their future and his family but Han was a better subject. "I know it can be weird. No Empire. No Alliance. Everyone seems to know who you are. You learn how to deal with it though."

There was something... not right about Luke. He couldn't really put his finger on it, but it took him a moment to place what it was - Luke wasn't really smiling. Not that he was happy-go-lucky all of the time but he was usually fairly positive, especially because he knew it pissed Han off more often than not when he was optimistic about every damn thing. He seemed to get some fun out of pissing him off, but Han kind of felt the same in that sense. It was just harmless ribbing.

"The 'everyone knows who I am' thing is the bit I'm kinda stuck on," he admitted as he took a seat on the armchair next to the couch. The rooms were nicer than he'd ever had in terms of a living space, honestly - it all felt so... wrong. It wasn't even a bad wrong, it was just wrong. No dingy bars (or, well- none as bad as the ones on Corellia), no Imperial Army, no ghosts from his past chasing him. Just him and Luke in some weird city that seemed inescapable. "It's that they know who I am but they're not pissed off when they see me," he shrugged one shoulder, sitting back and hooking one leg over the arm of the chair, settling in.

"So. What's pissed you off?"

"And here I thought you'd appreciate the lack of blaster fire as a welcome." Luke teased. He supposed it was weird, maybe even a little worrying to have so many people recognize you and not immediately reach for a blaster. Maybe that was a little more worrying in Han's line of work than Luke had realized. He decided not to pry too much into the topic. He wouldn't put it past Han to deflect.

The next question out of Han's mouth, however, had him rethinking his decision. Maybe he should've asked. Maybe having Han angrily deflect would've made him less willing to ask Luke what was going on in his head. "I'm not pissed..." He huffed. It was only partially true. He wasn't angry at anyone except, maybe, himself. Maybe his Ben. The old man knew who his father really was all along and had decided to spin him a story about Darth Vader killing Anakin Skywalker.

"There's just a lot going on." He admitted after a moment's worth of thought. "This place tosses people out without warning. I lost..." What did he consider Todd? "...friends." He decided, thinking about the others who disappeared along with the dark haired man. "And I learned a few things. About my father. About our future."

It seemed like a little too much to talk about right away. It felt like if he tried he might accidentally send something flying across the room or break things. He couldn't bring himself to talk about it at that very moment but he also couldn't keep holding it in. He needed to talk to someone. So, instead, he decided to try and lighten the mood just a little.

"I know you were the one who went out to save me, Han. You can stop pretending it was some other idiot."

That was a lot to take in all at once, especially for somebody who wasn't exactly emotionally open with... anybody, really. Qi'ra certainly didn't count, considering what had happened with that mess - it was in the past but Luke's hesitation when he mentioned 'friends' did made him wonder. He didn't pry, but he noted it down for later consideration as he rolled his shoulders back to loosen the everlasting ache in them from years of war and hard labour. "Our future? Kid, I think you got a knock on the head. Or the cold got to you," he hummed, but Luke quickly changed the subject to the person who'd saved him on Hoth and he spluttered indignantly.

"I- how do you know that?! You were asleep!" and stinking with TaunTaun guts, too. Definitely not his favourite idea, but the doctor had credited him with saving Luke's life and so he really wasn't going to complain. As much as he bitched about him, he didn't know what he'd be doing if Luke hadn't crash-landed into his life with his bratty, do-gooder mentality. Probably something nefarious or dead on the Kessel Run.

He knew that Han wouldn't believe him. The other man hadn't been here long enough to know what this place was capable of, how weird things could be. He supposed he could show Han himself. The holos that existed in this place seemed to cover the major events of their lives within the Rebellion. He wasn't sure he wanted to do that to Han. It was better to let him believe that Luke had hit his head or something, better to let him spend some time in this place and see how strange things could be on his own before dropping any of that onto him.

There was, however, something he'd learned that he wanted to get out of the way. Han deserved to know the truth about Luke and his family. The smuggler had saved him from freezing to death on Hoth, he had come back for the Rebellion and saved Luke during his run on the Death Star. If anyone deserved to know who they were constantly pulling out of danger it was Han.

Unfortunately, his plan to deflect went a little well. He couldn't help but chuckle as Han sputtered. The familiarity of it was comforting in a way he'd missed. He just hadn't realized how much until right now. "Who else would risk their lives like that for me?" Certainly none of his pilot friends. They all got along and he knew they'd have his back during a fight but it wasn't the same.

"Leia would," he murmured without thinking about it too hard. She hadn't sent him out, that much was true, but she had been fretting - he'd been convinced she'd run off to rescue him herself if he hadn't been there. "I think a lot of people there might have if you'd given 'em half the chance, golden boy," he wasn't sure who he was jealous of, really. Not that it was something he was looking to analyse, especially when the kid was in his room looking half-miserable for some reason and like something was on his mind - he sort of wore his heart on his sleeve. He'd not met somebody so unscarred by the Galaxy's darkest points before.

"Besides, even if it was me - which I'm neither confirming or denying - I'm not gonna do it again. Don't fucking get yourself stuck in the middle of a frozen wasteland unless you want to die," he poked him in the chest at that, fairly sure Luke would just laugh him off. He was a Jedi now, after all - not that it had saved him all too much there, had it? Damn Jedicicle.
