Every week there was something, but that was no different than her life back home. In Vallo, at least it was the same city, at the same time. She missed time travelling, but it was sort of easier when you were familiar with your surroundings. There’d been no lead on the mysterious silver-armed attacker in the city, despite multiple sightings and run-ins. This guy was good, and Sara both admired and hated him for it. She was off duty now, though still had her phone and comms on. She pretty much always had those on, just in case something came up. It was pretty standard for her after work to head to Galahd for a drink and something to eat, and you know, to talk to a certain kind-of-goddess-bartender. It wasn’t odd to find someone she knew there at any point in time, so it was something to look forward to. Despite being blind, she had navigating the bar down to a science at this point. Sara was dropping into a stool at the bar in no time, despite not knowing who might be beside her. “Alright, who’s here?” There was no end to the frustration Bucky felt at the fact that there was some guy with a metal arm running around giving him a bad name. He couldn't blame Natasha for jumping to that conclusion or Nyx coming to check up on him because if he was in their shoes, he would have suspected him too. Still, it made him wonder if he would ever be able to shake his past, if when something like this happened, people wouldn't suspect him right away. He was drinking his frustration away at Galahd, when one of his favorite blondes showed up. "The guy with the metal arm that you aren't looking for," he answered, when she sat down next to him. “Bucky!” she said with a grin. He was one of her favorite people here, even if he wasn’t the one she knew from a previous reality. But it was hard not to get attached to the people she patrolled with. “My fellow former assassin, shocking that you’re here too.” she reached out to push him gently, and playful move. She had planned to tease him, because they were both here often, and not just for the alcohol that was behind the bar. She never got that far though. Sara stilled for a moment as a vision passed through her mind. There was Bucky. The Bucky she knew was sitting beside her. But there was another Bucky</i>. He looked nearly the same, but it wasn’t Bucky. She’d never seen the Bucky in her past go full Winter Solider, but this had to be him that she was seeing. Somehow. And they were facing each other down. “...there’s no other version of you here, is there?” she said carefully, her sunglasses shielded face looking just past him. “Because I think I would have noticed that?” Bucky hadn't made that many friends in Vallo, but of the few he had, Sara was one of them. From being on the same patrol team for months and visiting the same bar often at the same time, it was hard not to become friends with her. She was fun and easy going, which was why he hadn't deflected the playful push of hers. But he recognized something had gone wrong, when her face became more serious and she asked her question. "There isn't," Bucky confirmed carefully, not knowing where she was going with this, but fearful that Natasha's worries had been correct. "Why are you asking?" “I just saw you.” she said, everyone at this point who worked with her and then beyond knew she had lost her sight and gained visions. “You, and then...another you. Him.” she dropped her hand from his shoulder but kept facing him. “You as you are now, but also the Winter Soldier as a separate person. You were...facing each other down. It looked like there was a fight.” She didn’t know if that made any sense. She didn’t know how to explain it. Bucky facing off against another Bucky. “But there hasn’t been any new arrivals.” There was a sinking feeling in Bucky’s stomach, as he listened to her explain her vision. “I don’t know how to explain his arrival here, but if you’re seeing it, it must be true,” Bucky said, voice thick with worry. “Fuck, Sara,” he breathed immediately after, combing his hand through his hair. “Natasha was right and now we have a killer version of me to deal with. You need to warn the rest of the patrol teams about staying clear. I’m going after him.” He was reacting emotionally, but he knew that he wasn’t willing to put other people in danger. Not when it involved the Winter Soldier. Sara already had her hand to her ear to connect with Gideon to send out an update to the Defense Teams, but she needed to make sure Bucky was going to approach this rationally. “Not alone,” she said firmly like she wasn’t willing to debate him on this. She knew what it was to take on yourself. “She was half right. It’s not you anymore, and you need to take backup. I don’t care if it’s Steve, Natasha, whoever you want with you. But you take someone.” But she was pretty sure she needed to give him some rational reason to do that, at least one that would be in everyone’s best interest. “If this goes sideways and there’s no one else around, he could escape and hurt other people.” Taking a deep breath and huffing it out, he felt a little of the tension that was gathering in his shoulders loosen up. It was nice knowing he wasn't alone in this, but that didn't mean he was happy about Sara's terms. "Fine," he agreed reluctantly. "I'll take someone along with me when I go looking for him." Easier than she thought it was going to be, but at least he agreed. “When are you going?” She didn’t want to get in his way, but she did want to make sure he knew someone had his back from away. Plus, if a fight went down she wanted to know. Especially if it broke out in the city and caused trouble with the government. Sara would deal with that. "First thing tomorrow. I need to get my gear together and I need to see if I can figure out if there's a pattern to whatever he's been doing that we know of." Pause. "Can you check in on Steve for me? Last time I was the Winter Soldier, I tried to kill him." Steve didn’t know Sara that well, not as well as the last one had. But she could definitely do that. “Yeah, of course. Stay in touch? If something goes down in the city I need to be ready to contain it if necessary.” "I'll keep my comms on while I'm tracking him down," Bucky promised, very aware of the fact that they needed to keep a good relationship with the rest of Vallo to keep living there as peacefully as they had. "I'm heading out to get started on the gear. You gonna be good?" He asked, as he pulled some money out for his tab and started to get up to leave. “I’m perfectly capable of looking after myself.” she said as he walked away, “Be careful!” when he was gone she turned to start her conversation with Gideon. |
