Who: Merlin and Tony When: After the plot Where: Stark Tower What: Checking for damage Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete when posted
“Looks like we did it boss” Merlin said as they finished their walk around Stark Tower, “No damage anywhere I can see, the barrier held” He grinned over at Tony, pleased that his spell had worked so well. He should have known it would get tested sooner rather than later around here. But he was glad it had stayed up as it should and the people inside had been safe.
“That’s quite a relief.” Not that they couldn’t handle it if there were problems, but it was easier if they didn’t have to patch up the building. Besides, too many cracks might cause problems in the foundation. “I don’t know how you do it, Merlin. It’s… like magic.” A little smirk crossed Tony’s lips.
Merlin laughed, “What can I say? It comes naturally” he winked, it was actually good for Merlin to get to do spells which required so much since it appeared he was a well of never ending power. A big release now and then worked well for him.
Tony nodded. “Good. This is why we pay you the big bucks.” He clapped his friend and employee on the shoulder. “You’ve got something else up…? Some other magic stuffs to keep the building safe in the mean time?”
Merlin grinned, he knew he was very lucky to be working for Stark, the pay was great and the benefits were amazing. “Yeah, basic wards are up. It makes it a lot easier when the bad shit hits, I just reinforce what’s already there” Merlin explained.
“I love having someone I trust watching out for the building’s well-being.” Tony dusted his hands off. A symbolic gesture, really, that he was passing that off to Merlin. (Or that he had a long time ago.) “Should we do a quick lap of the building for a visual inspection?”
“Always” Merlin promised, “Don’t worry boss, I won’t let you down” It was a big responsibility but one that Merlin gladly took on. Helping people was what his magic was for, of that he was positive. “Sounds like a good plan” They’d checked the outside so checking the inside was a good plan.
The larger the company grew, the more responsibility the pair had to keep their respective sections running smoothly. Tony had a lot of stuff going on, but he was never too busy to meet with Merlin. Especially when it came to work stuff, but even for personal stuff. Merlin was more than just a coworker, he was one of Tony’s friends. Not that Tony had many of those.
The pair headed out through the lobby to take the elevator back to their respective floors. He was thinking about stealing that jet with Anakin, actually.
Merlin definitely appreciated Tony’s management style, he knew if there was ever a problem he could go to Tony and they’d figure it out. He was a lot more approachable than some bosses. “Anything else on your mind?” he asked, since Tony seemed a little preoccupied and Merlin knew he was satisfied with the building wards which meant it must be something else.
“Just thinking about a kid I met.” Actually, Tony had been considering offering him a position at Stark Tower. He didn’t know where or what yet, but he was thinking about how good it might be for them all to work together. At least, for him and Anakin to work together. Merlin would probably like the kid, too. Tony glanced over at him. “You have any idea if we’ve got any openings?”
“Well even if we haven’t you could just make one, you are the boss after all” Merlin said with a small smirk, “What’s the kids area? R and D?” he was guessing it might be since Tony’s interest had been so piqued in him but with Tony you never could quite tell.
Tony chuckled softly. “He’s… something else. This kid. We stole a jet back when those monsters were attacking. The most recent wave, I mean.” Tony paused. “He’s more mechanical. Maybe a spot in Engineering? I’ll have to look into it. I’m not even sure he’s interested, I was just thinking about it.”
Merlin nodded, “If he’s that promising then I am sure engineering will love to have him, if he is interested” he said, “Though I get the feeling I’ll have to keep an eye on the pair of you, when mad inventor geniuses unite...” he grinned at Tony.
“I’ll bring it up with him.” Tony grinned himself, loving the idea that he had other people around he could bounce ideas off of, design things with, engineer with. Merlin was definitely one of those people. And T’Challa, and now Anakin, too. That was one of the great things about the Valarnet--Tony was able to meet great people on the internet. “And I’ll make sure we keep you appraised of any dangerous experiments we may partake in.”
Merlin definitely tended to notice the technical aspects of things, he wasn’t as creatively minded as Tony but technical aspects such as coding he definitely came in handy with. “I’d appreciate that” he said with a nod, the grin remaining.
