Who: Jeremy Gilbert and Tyler Lockwood When: Backdated: Mid May; After Orcs Where: Jeremy's House What: Jer asks Tyler to be his Best Man Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly Status: Complete
Jeremy had intended on inviting Tyler over the previous weekend, but then Orcs had happened and he couldn’t simply sit at home when he had a crossbow and could be of some help out there. Sure the Orcs may have been bigger than vampires, but Jeremy had fought other larger invaders in the past and his crossbow hadn’t let him down. At the same time he’d run into a girl who looked exactly like Anna, which had thrown him for a loop at first.
Now that the Orc invasion had passed, Jeremy and Tyler had rescheduled and were currently hanging out in Jeremy’s back yard, which looked straight out onto the beach, which was Jeremy’s favorite part of the house.
Tyler had managed to keep to himself for most of the orc craziness. Since Blossom and her family had moved away, Tyler no longer felt much of an urge to go out of his way to fight the Orange County craziness. Sure, if someone was in trouble or hurt he would step in and do what he could, but there were more than enough people around to deal with the nastiness and Tyler wasn’t much of a hero.
Still, he was glad that Jeremy had rescheduled the barbeque to a time when they were less likely to get attacked by big, burly, occasionally magical assholes. Tyler took a gulp of his beer, looking out at the seemingly peaceful beach. “So, how’d you feel with this month’s craziness?” he asked.
“I was fine. I went out and took down a few ORCs. It was all about the headshots with them,” Hitting something that big anywhere else would just make them angry and likely would have meant Jeremy would have had to run away really fast or risk dismemberment or death. “Oh and did you know there’s a girl here who looks like Anna.” It was still a bit of a shock, knowing that there was a girl around who looked almost exactly like his dream!ex-girlfriend. Considering how much of a hold Anna had had over him in the dreams, to the point where he’d cheated on Bonnie with ghost!Anna, he was glad that that hold hadn’t transferred over to the real world.
“You mean Stefan’s roommate?” Tyler asked after a moment. She was really the only Anna that Tyler knew. He hadn’t really been in on the vampire secret, or particularly good friends with Jeremy, when Anna had been around. He had heard of his ghostly kiss, but that had been relayed to him through Caroline.
Jeremy shook his head, “No, Anna from our dreams.” He frowned slightly, “Now that I think about it, I don’t know if you ever met her. She went to our school for a short time, but she was a vampire, so she wasn’t there long.” He didn’t mention that the reason Anna stopped going to their school was cause his uncle had killed her. “Anyway, there’s a girl here who looked almost exactly like her. I ran into her while I was killing some ORCs.”
“That must have been weird,” Tyler said. He couldn’t imagine running into someone who looked just like someone from the dreams. Sometimes it was a little much just running into people who were actually from the dreams. Now that his dreams were over and done with - at least the first set - it was hard to keep track of where everyone else was. He wasn’t even sure what to think of the second set.
“But looks like the both of you made it out okay.” At least, he assumed they had.
Jeremy nodded and took a swig from his beer bottle, “Yeah, we did. It was really weird though.” The thought of one of his dream ex-girlfriends showing up in town made him a little uneasy, considering the feelings the dreams were able to give them. At the moment Bonnie was the one most likely to show up, considering he already knew that she was a real person; same with Vicki, but he had a feeling that he’d have less feelings for Vicki than he would if Bonnie were to show up again. “Do you ever wonder what would happen if Vicki or Liv turned up?”
“I haven’t thought about it much,” Tyler admitted. Honestly, he tried not to think of either girl too much. Vicki… well, he’d treated her like crap the entire time that they’d dated. He really couldn’t blame her for cheating on him with Jeremy in the dreams, and he had been beyond surprised that, when his dreams ended, he had found peace with her. It had not been a conclusion to their story that he ever would have expected. And Liv… even if she’d been dying already, even if she’d begged him to end it so he could save himself, in the end, he’d still killed her. “I don’t really know what I’d do if I ever ran into either of them here,” he admitted truthfully.
Jeremy sighed, “We live complicated lives, huh?” Really it was their dream selves who let complicated lives, but because of the dreams, their life in the waking world was also complicated. “Hey, so enough talk about dream girlfriends...I actually wanted to ask you something more important.” When Jeremy had originally planned on getting together with Tyler a week earlier, he’d planned on asking his friend to be his Best Man and while that hadn’t changed, he didn’t want to end up getting too distracted and forgetting.
“We sure do,” Tyler said. With Klaus around, his real life wasn’t much more normal than his dreams, but at least there wasn’t a new life threatening threat every couple of months here. At least, not one that didn’t disappear within a couple of days.
“I hope you’re not going to ask me out, because dude, you’re definitely not my type,” he said teasingly.
Jeremy laughed and shook his head, “Yeah, that’s definitely not where this is going. Besides, I don’t think Myrcella would appreciate that very much.” Jeremy wasn’t the least bit surprised that Tyler would make a joke like that, “No, actually I wanted to ask if you’d be my Best Man.”
Tyler stared at Jeremy, shocked at the question. He really hadn’t expected Jeremy to ask him something like that, and for an overwhelming moment, he was at a loss for words. But then, he smiled. “Yeah,” he said. “Yeah, I’d love to be your Best Man.”
Jeremy couldn’t help the grin that spread across his lips as Tyler accepted, “Awesome! We still don’t have a date yet, but you’ll be one of the first people I tell once we do.” They had decided to lock down their bridal parties first then figure out a date afterwards.
“You’d better,” Tyler said. He was the best man, after all. There would be a lot of planning he had to do. Such as… “So, how many strippers do you want at your bachelor party?”
