With Anna being so busy at school and at work, it wasn’t a surprise that she hadn’t seen Myrcella in a little while. She decided to fix all of that and visit her friend with some homemade cupcakes she’d just finished decorating. (Frosting and sprinkles.) She showed up to Myrcella’s place and knocked on the front door, grinning ear to ear.
Myrcella had been working on putting her portfolio together, pictures were spread out on the dining table - including some of Anna - but when she heard the knock she went to answer it.
"Anna" she grinned hugging her friend before letting her in, "It's wonderful to see you"
“Hey!” Anna said, then balanced the cupcake box in one hand and reached forward to hug her friend with the free arm. “You, too! It’s been too long. You’re not busy, are you? I should have called first.”
"I'm never too busy to spend time with you. It seems far too long since we've caught up" Myrcella said, "Do you want me to take that for you?" she offered politely.
“Oh! Sure!” Anna offered up the box, and grinned shyly. “I made cupcakes for you. Y’know, sort of an apology for not having been around all that much lately?”
“Oh thank you. You didn’t have to do that though. We’ve both been crazy busy” she said taking the box, “I do think I have the perfect new hot chocolate to try with them though, if you’d like?”
“Well, okay, maybe we can have cupcakes together, then.” Anna said, beaming with happiness. She was glad to be spending time with Myrcella again! It’d been too long. “I’d love some! You know me and all things chocolate.”
“I did think of you when I brought it” Myrcella admitted with a grin, “I’ve been trying all kinds of new things from the supermarket. It’s nice cooking for three people, I can be a little more inventive” she said as she led the way to the kitchen to pop the kettle on.
“I’m not great at cooking, but I can definitely do cupcakes.” Anna said, grinning brightly. “You should teach me to cook something sometime so I can impress Elsa.” She followed Myrcella into the kitchen then opened the box and arranged the cupcakes onto a plate. “How’s the new living situation working out for you? I bet it’s wonderful.”
“I’d be happy to. I’ve tried a little with Irisa but she has a shorter attention span than anybody I know, at least when it comes to cooking anyway” Myrcella grinned. “It is wonderful. I love having Jeremy here all the time, it’s so nice coming home to him” she beamed as she spoke removing cups from the cupboard for their drinks.
“I can’t promise mine will be much better!” Anna laughed. “I’ll have to put up a picture of Elsa, or something, so that I can have a constant reminder what I’m doing and who I’m doing it for.” She smiled warmly at the sight of her friend. “That’s so sweet! I’m sure he loves coming home to you, too.”
“That’s a good idea. Maybe a picture of Alucard and Integra would give Irisa the concentration she needs” Myrcella said thoughtfully, she could end up with a house of random pictures. “I think he does” she nodded, “We’re pretty domesticated already”
Anna beamed. “I think that’s an excellent idea. Then you’ll have motivational pictures up all over! Well, motivation for someone else… we’ll have to find some motivational pictures for you, too. Maybe pictures of Jeremy? Though, he might find that a bit weird, wouldn’t he?” She was babbling a bit, so she shoved some cupcake in her mouth to end that.
Myrcella laughed, “He might find that just a little creepy, maybe I’ll stick to pictures of new recipes I want to try. I think that might be motivation enough”
“Ooh, I love that idea! Though, whenever I step into the kitchen I’d probably get hungry!” Anna laughed, too, imagining pictures of food up on all the counters and walls. “It’d be like a real life pinterest board.”
“It really would” Myrcella agreed, “But it would be great for inspiration. So,” she smiled at her friend, “what sort of thing were you thinking of making for Elsa?”
“Oh, I don’t know. Something with… beans, maybe? Ooh, tofu? She doesn’t eat much meat, so I want to make sure not to offend her. I could even try my hand at a vegan dish!” Wow, getting ahead of yourself there, Anna. Maybe start with something simple?
"I'm sure you won't offend her. There are a number of near substitutes out there. I'm sure we can come up with something good. Vegan dishes are hard I'm afraid, they have a tendency to be boring and flavourless.”
“Oh, well, I definitely don’t want to do something boring.” Anna said, frowning a bit. “I like tofu, though. We’ll just have to figure something out with tofu? Maybe a casserole? Those are easy, right? Cheese… definitely not vegan.”
“Tofu needs flavouring but it is tasty and fairly versatile” Myrcella said, “I didn’t know Elsa was vegan” she was fairly sure she’d seen Anna’s sister eating cupcakes before.
“No, I think she just avoids meat.” Anna said. Though, that could be wrong. Now that she was thinking about it, she frowned. “...I think? God, I don’t know. That makes me the worst sister ever.” She cupped her face in her hands and frowned. “I can’t believe I don’t know.”
“Oh don’t worry” Myrcella said wrapping her arm around Anna’s shoulders, “We’ll work on a nice simple vegetarian recipe just in case she is and you can find out then. I’m sure she won’t be a vegan, you definitely would have noticed. I mean they don’t eat eggs or milk and she’s had cookies and cupcakes right?” she said reassuringly.
“Yes.” Anna said, rubbing her fingertips into her hairline. She finally lowered her hands. “And she drinks sparkling lattes from Baxter Bakery when I bring them over for her, so… that’s a sign, right?”
“Definitely they have milk in them, lots of it” Myrcella said, “So she’s definitely not vegan. So we’ll do a nice tasty vegetarian recipe and then you’ll be safe if she isn’t keen on meat”
“I think that’s an excellent idea.” Anna said, breaking into a smile. Things didn’t get her down for long. “Something delicious and cheesy. I like cheese.” And she could make chocolate cupcakes for dessert! Best plan ever!
“That’s because cheese is amazing” Myrcella said, “I don’t think you’re normal if you don’t love cheese” she grinned. Cheesy pasta bake was the best thing ever especially with garlic bread.
Anna laughed. The down-ness was gone now. “You’re absolutely right. There’s something wrong with people who don’t like some kind of cheese.” She lifted her hot chocolate and her cupcake. “When should we do our cooking lesson?”
“Whenever is best for you. I don’t have any more exams for a few weeks so I’m free most afternoons except when I’m at the bookshop” Myrcella said, “But I can work around that if there’s a good time for you”
“I work most afternoons and evenings, and I’m in school most days. Mondays and Tuesdays are actually really great for me.” Anna said, thinking about how busy her schedule was going to get as soon as she started studying for finals.
“Mondays works for me I don’t have classes at all then” Myrcella said, “So next Monday? Cheesy vegetable pasta bake?”
“Yes! Next Monday. It’s a date.” Anna said, beaming. “And I promise not to bring over more cupcakes if you don’t want me to.” Some people were weird and like, got tired of them.
“Great, I’ll pop it in my diary” Myrcella grinned before laughing, “Who wouldn’t want cupcakes? They’re the best things ever and helpful fuel when cooking” she added with a wink.
“Good!” Anna laughed. “I’ll make a new batch this weekend.” She nodded once. “Chocolate, I think. With chocolate frosting!” And sprinkles. She had fun with the sprinkles.
“Who doesn’t love chocolate” they were the best choice for cupcakes in Myrcella’s opinion. And she was already looking forward to cooking yummy food and eating yummy cupcakes with her friend.
