Where: The Turner-Brennan house
When: today-ish
What: Bakesale!!
Who: everybody who wants some baked goods, duh
Warnings: none so far, shouldn't be any, it's a bakesale, there's a baby o_0

Brenda had set everything up on a folding church table in the middle of the kitchen, as well as taking up most of the counter space around, there were at least a half dozen pies that were still whole, and portions of others, seven-layer bars, brownies, lemon squares (and triangles), cupcakes, spiced pear cobbler and a million (estimated) kinds of cookies.

The door was propped open by a river-rock painted like a ladybug, and Brenda was bobbing around with Cassidy in a sling.

It was shortly after he'd replied to the Endless that Sweeney wandered into the neighborhood, looking just as pale and menacing as ever. Though when he spotted the bake sale, he did get a bit of glimmer in his eyes.

He looked around for the lady who'd promised pear-spice pie, and once he spotted her, he just aimlessly wandered towards the cookies.
He rarely had cookies before!
And being the strange fellow he was, he was thinking of taking a plateful home, just for various times when he was too tired to go out, order in, or microwave something.

Brenda? Would probably insist on giving him a plate by the time he left, she was like that and they were out of space to do any more baking, and Cassidy didn't like late-night yoga so much.

Just at that moment she was singing along with something ridiculously catchy and cutting one of the banana cream pies into even slices, she did smile when she saw him though "Pear spice cobbler?" She asked before pointing with an elbow to the row of plates lined up in front of the microwave, all but two empty at the moment, and one of them had a cupcake on it, "Right over there."

"Good memory." He nodded, and wandered over that direction, "How much would you like for it?" He asked with a browraise when he snagged the plate. The pie on it looked absolutely delicious -- better than any pie shop could have done back when he was around. And smelled good, too. "Might be unable to resist eating this before I get home." He murmured, half to himself.

She smiled, setting the knife in the sink and licking a smear of banana custard off her thumb, "We've got chairs, feel free to put them to use." She rested one hand against the small of her back then, using the other to brush Cassidy's hair away from his face, "And we mostly work on the barter system around here, so have a taste and tell me what you think it's worth."

The barber took a seat, and set the pie down before him. He took a bite, head tilted just slightly, completely scrutinizing the pie before he turned to Brenda.

"You said you made this? From scratch?"

She nodded, giving the spread one last once-over before taking a seat herself, giving the baby a finger to hold onto, "Yep, about three this morning."

"Amazing. This is better than anything I've had from a store. You should think about going into business, Miss..."

He hadn't gotten her name! How impolite!

"Brenda." She said, offering a hand, "Brenda Ann if you must. And I really just do it for fun, and to keep myself busy when the little guy isn't sleeping."

He felt odd using a lady's first name, at least, on a more gentlemanly level than anything. He took her hand and bowed slightly, smiling a tiny little smile. "Sweeney Todd, pleasure to meet you."

He took another small bite, still very impressed. "Well, it's still very good."

"So fruit and spice is kind of like, your flavor of choice, yeah?" She levered herself up on the table, going to get a plate of cookies, "Try one of those next."

Persimmon drop cookies with cayenne roasted pine nuts on top.

He finished off the pie quickly enough and then took a bite of one of the cookies, head tilted once more.

And it was way too surprisingly awesome for him to describe. He just raised a brow, "I'll take the whole plate." He said, "Then again, I've not got much to barter in terms of possessions. And I'm not really up to speed with how much things should cost."

He shrugged one shoulder, "You'll have to forgive me. Haven't lived in this era before, rather new at it."

She grinned at that, "Fair enough, two pounds for the plate and we'll call the cobbler a sample." Because really she had no idea how the monopoly money worked either.

He nodded, fishing out the two pounds from his wallet, and offering it to her. "The cobbler was delightful, I'd love to have more of it, just for the grand opening of my store. Might as well feed them while they're tinkering around downstairs." He offered his card as well, "Come and visit one day, if you wish."

The money was tucked into the sling with the baby as she took the card with the other hand, "So you are that Sweeney Todd, I was curious, but didn't want to ask because that's kind of rude." A smile, "When's the grand opening? I'm sure I can throw a couple together before then."

He nodded, "Yes, that's me. And on Monday, 9am." He smiled, though it was a bit wry, still a bit cold.
"Don't worry about your neck, I've decided to give proper business a go again. Well, at least I get indemnity for it or sommat. Never know with the way things are, today."

Another smile, "I'm not worried, after all, no reason to knock off a displaced baker with a baby, yeah?" She knew he didn't just whack whoever crossed his path.

"Monday... well, uh, how many do you think you'll need?" She measured approximately a 9"x9" pan with her hands, "They're about this big usually."

His smile got a bit more warm, "And the dear little one's very cute, wouldn't want his lovely mother to go missing. Would greatly upset your husband, and that's something I'm not willing to do to a man."

He thought about that for a half a minute, brow furrowed, "Would think that half a dozen should do it for the day, can store up the excess in the refrigerator, give it to a friend if I've still got some left. And in return, whatever you feel is right is good enough for me, Ma'am."

Either Cassidy knew he was being talked about, or he'd just had a fairly normal moment of infant glee, because his response was: "HEEEEEEEE!" Which made Brenda grin, petting his head again, "Half dozen, eh, I'll charge you cost of supplies and transportation."

She squinted doing some calculations in her head, "Looking at about thirty pounds I think? I'll let you know for sure when we get there."

Sweeney smiled at the baby, who was just outright adorable in his mind. He always had a soft spot for the wee ones, having been a father himself, at one point. "Yes, that'd be just fine. He's very sweet, your son. Had a daughter once, myself. She was just as cheerful."

She smiled again, nodding, "This is Cassidy, his grandfather and his aunt think he's going to be a guitar prodigy, but that's because they don't know how hard he was kicking." She beeped his nose, "I'm thinking tapdance, maybe clogging."

That got a huff of a chuckle from Sweeney, nothing really much more than that, and he nodded, "Well, there's always putting him into an Asian martial art. Lots of those require kicking, I hear." That said, he gave the slightest bow, "Thank you for the cookies and pies, Ma'am. I'll see you on Monday." He started on his way out then, and smiled to himself once he was sure nobody could see him.

This world was so vastly different from his own. He was rather starting to warm up to it.
