Terrence couldn't have said exactly why, but the atmosphere in his department these days was making him antsy. It was a feeling of anticipation, as if they were close to a breakthrough. That should have been a good thing, but any breakthrough in the department researching immortality was an omen for the longevity of the Dark Lord's reign. If it hadn't been for the bloody potion, Terrence probably wouldn't have been happy about that, but the Dark Lord had ruined his chances of ever having Terrence's complete loyalty the moment He'd started slipping mind-altering potions into his food.
Not that there was an enormous amount Terrence could do, but he had information. Information that he was spelled against talking about - he wasn't under an Unbreakable Vow to keep his department's secrets, but a Compulsion to avoid certain words and topics - but he had an idea for how to get around that. When it had occurred to him, he had written to Weasley, with every intention of handing over as much as he could.
That was why he was here, disguised as the blonde Emil, drinking spiced ale and wearing a Santa hat. He'd been here long enough before Ron was supposed to arrive that he could give the impression of being uproariously drunk to anyone that might be paying attention, even though he hadn't been drinking as much as he seemed. If Weasley was already here, he'd presumably seen most of the performance, but he knew that the fugitive was unlikely to believe any of it. That suited Terrence perfectly; the performance wasn't for Weasley's benefit, but for the benefit of their cover.
Grinning at the barmaid, he winked and shoved his glass across the table again. "One more!"
"Are you sure?" she asked, which told Terrence that he was pulling off the drunk act quite well. He grinned wider and added an extra slur to his words. "I'm sure! C'mon, it's nearly Christmas, just gimme this one."
With a sigh, she refilled his drink and moved on, leaving Terrence happily sipping from his glass and looking around for Weasley.
