The maggots within the dead formed diseases much worse than that which was passed from cough and cold. The dead arise in legends and in lore, due to the sicknesses foolish mortals brought back from vandalizing graves, and perhaps making their bed with them in many places. Thus was born the idea of the undead, of zombies—an ancient fear, though completely illogical. Once dead, truly dead, a man cannot return.
