So it seems that I have this week off as well, and as always when I find myself in a new place, I want to explore.

Is there anywhere in particular that you all think I should see?

Katz's deli, absolutely.

And whereabouts is this deli, miss? I'm in the high-north of California for the time being.

New York! It's really amazing.

It's been some time since I've been out on the other coast, and I don't know that I've ever been to New York at all.

Sounds like the kind of place I'd like though, place with its own history.

New York is really bright and spangly, I like it. I haven't been very many places, just this and Las Vegas.

It does! I like knowing I've been someplace that lots of other people have been to, that I'm taking part in an old tradition.

It seems spangly in the pictures. Not really sure why I've never visited before.

Traditions like that are just as important as all the rites and rituals. And they're more fun, less dressing up involved, usually.

I don't know, maybe because it's loud and noisy?

And more delicious meats.

[info]sunsetrising

Could be that.

Well that all depends on the rite and the ritual.

You get used to it after a while. Well, you might not, but I did.

I wholeheartedly endorse pretty much anything with delicious meats.

I can get used to a lot of things, loud and spangly isn't really one of them.

I'll have to look you up next time I hear about a pow-wow then.

I'm Ahiga, didn't get to that part yet.

I'm sort of loud and spangly myself, so it's not been so hard for me to get used to.

Really? That'd be great! I don't know if I can dance much, but I could help out somehow!

I'm Navi! It's nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you as well, and the dancing isn't mandatory for visitors. It is fun though, and the food's the most important part anyway.

Well, if you come to New York, you'll have to let me show you around!

I'd appreciate that, I'm likely to get terribly lost otherwise.

I got lost my first few times here too, actually! It's not so uncommon.

I just don't do well among buildings instead of nature, that's all. Even in cities I can usually tell compass points, but not always.

When do you have time to play tour guide?

I like Central Park, myself. My dad was a tree - well, still would be if he weren't dead - so I sort of understand.

Whenever! Raven's busy with something and Iggy's reading so I can go out for a little while!

Your... huh. You're some kind of sprite then for sure.

And Raven who's-now-a-white-boy Raven?

[info]heyheylisten

I'm a fairy!

Yup! You know him?

[info]sunsetrising

Ah, almost the same thing as a sprite.

He's ... uh... sort of my uncle. Kind of. Family relations are weird in my family, so pretty much everyone's an uncle of some kind. Makes things easier.

[info]heyheylisten

Almost!

I'm his girlfriend. And I don't have any family but my dad, but he's not here, so that's easy for everyone to remember.

[info]sunsetrising

Sounds like. I would be happy for the guide though, I'll even buy you dinner in a totally platonic way that will give Raven no reason to hit me.

Awwww! But what if I want to watch the pretty boys fight? Boys have catfights, I want the opposite version!

[info]sunsetrising
2009-01-25 10:56 pm UTC (link)
Because it wouldn't be much of a fight, really. Pretty sure he can still kick my ass when he's as scrawny as he is now.

[info]heyheylisten

And he's still older and stronger than me even now.

Nearest portkey's about an hour from me. Is there more than one in New York?

[info]sunsetrising

That works. Do you need an address or coordinates or a landmark?

[info]heyheylisten

Landmark works! The state too.

California, just about the middle of the east side of Goose Lake, little town called Willow Ranch. Aside from the lake, best landmark is the lightning tree on the hill.

I could hit you for the white boy comment, you know.

If it wasn't utterly true.

Do watch out for the glitter. It sneaks up on you.

You could, but you won't. I know you that well at least.

So I've heard. No sense bemoaning the inevitable though.

MY GLITTER IS NOT THAT BAD.

Compared to lots of other things you could be covered in, like glue!

At least glitter comes off. Usually.

IT IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT STICKS TO SKIN LIKE NAPALM. Shiny, non-deadly napalm.

At least you can peel the glue off?

Excellent. I'll have to find a way to make it worth it.

I'm not the type for violence. Other things, maybe, violence, no.

I wasn't sure if you'd heard, was all.

So, to make my interjection less useless- I see you survived the insanity unscathed? Did you ever see your mother?

[info]sunsetrising

Fair point, that. Suppose I should keep an eye out for snakes-in-cans and that sort of thing.

I did, still surprised by that. And haven't seen her yet, have you?

You make it sound so trite, old son. I'll think of something interesting for you, how's that?

No, not yet. Which is a shame- she would have found last week amusing.

[info]sunsetrising

I'll keep on my toes then.

She would have. Either that or she would've tried to mother everyone. Or both. she's good at both.

[info]writtenonbypoe

That's what I like to hear.

And really, she is. This place will get on her, in time, I'm sure.

Now, don't be getting fresh with my fairy, Ahiga. She'd probably beat you. And then there'd be no hope to get the glitter out.

Exactly so, I'm not too worried about it.

Of course not uncle, she's playing tour guide to make sure I don't get lost, and I'm buying her a sandwich for the trouble.

I'm just pulling your tail, old-son. Have fun. You'll like the city- despite all the noise, it's actually beautiful in its on way.
