The way I figure it, this time of year nobody should be alone, not that folk should be alone any other time either, just seems worse this time of year, blame it on the cold. So, in that spirit I'm sharing the home I fell into here [London address].

Anybody who needs a place to stay for a day or two, even if you just want company for a couple hours, maybe a warm meal, feel free to come by, door's always open for folk in need, don't matter to me if you've just arrived or if you've been here for ages, all that matters is you need some company.

You, my young friend, are very good people. Makes me feel a bit better, about th'times, to see someone your age takin' care'a others.

You need help with that? Lemme know.

Way I see it Shepherd's not much use without a flock to watch, even if it's just for a little while at a time.

They call me Book, Shepherd if you like titles, and I won't turn down help.

I know the feeling all too well.

It's nice to meet you, Book. Jesus, though most folk call me J.

... wait, really? That a coincidence or are you actually him?

I'm actually him. Kind of. I'm still just a man, flesh and blood, but I managed to stop dyin' when I came to this place, an' people were okay with who I was. 'Have yet to be thrown in an asylum, too, which is a step up.

M'not sure if I should be happy the Book survived that long, or not. You seem to get it a lot more than most folk, do, though. S'gotta mean somethin'.

Well that's all any of us are, ain't it? Still a pleasure to meet you.

And parts of it did, parts of a lot of them did, I'm from well in the future of this place, far enough on that we call it Earth That Was. I just like to think I took to the right parts of the teachings, live by the code the Southdown Abbey has, even though the meaning of part of it's lost.

Far too often, people try'n treat me different because'a it. Thank you, for that.

The meaning of it all, s'that people need t'stop worryin' about forever, and worry 'bout takin' care of each other. And you sound like you are. That's more than most people can say.

Just do best by the code of the Abbey, Scotu, M-Sot, Fiotu.

Steadfast Champions of the Unprotected, modestly seeking only truth, and nobody really knows what Fiotu means anymore. Fun to say though.

Faith in our teachings unyielding? Stab in the dark.

Might be that. Nobody still living where I'm from remembers, even the oldest of the Shepherds, and don't know that anyone here's actually come up with it yet.

Anybody'd do the same. Well, anybody where I'm from.

Okay, maybe not anybody, but they should and that's what matters.

I ain't all that good at taking a compliment apparently.

Just doing my part is all. Stick by the code of the Abbey, mottos of the Order.

You ever want to come by and compare notes you're always welcome.

Sure, don't really have any sort of schedule here besides what I set for myself, about the same as anything I'd be doing out on my mission anyway.

When would be a good time for you?
