Howdy: I'm Kalen, or Alphonse. 27, HOBBIES, Teacher (He/Him), and BRAND NEW to Journal based RP.

Hark yea all to Ashlen Veinart the disappointing third scion of the Veinart Dynasty. The Veinarts have long been growers, vintners, and politicians of class and grace, all of which has been marked absent in Ashlen. A third son in a two-male heir structure, he was Carnivale-born, unplanned, and generally an interruption to his father's plans. Instead of the useful powers imparted onto the first sons, Ashlen learned to speak with the many beasts and birds that made their home in Veinart, the family's ancestral home. But, that is Ashlen's context, not who he is.

After a successful graduation from the Creche, he matriculated and graduated from the Academy of Natural Sciences. Not top of his class perhaps, but his educational exploits were far sights more impressive then his brothers. In an accord with his father, Ashwine (as childhood tormentors were oft to call him) toured with the Clovennian Army, making a name for himself in the Veterinary Corps looking after the scout and warhorses during his tour. Earning a respectful moniker, Doc A., Ashlen finished his tour and went about exploring a newly budding faith. Refused from the Aurellian Seminary, Ashlen finds himself in Glynn, informed of his family's displeasure, banished, possibly disinherented, and finding himself at the bottom of a ladder he's only barely grasping the shape of.

So! Doc A. moves in the world with compassion and a need to study what he does not understand. His privilege has taught him his due, but non-existent confidence means his path is marred by his own inability to move past those barriers. He is new to town, new to the Aurellian way of life, new to faith, and all together new to being dependent on himself. Meet your new School Teacher, Doctor Ashlen Veinart.

Fox here (they/them/she/her). I'm 31 and boring so I'll get to it.

Finn Heron, the 35-year-old Aurellian (Winnan) owner of Heron's bookshop, exists! He has lived in Glynn his whole life and if a character has purchased art supplies, stationery or books they have an excuse to have met him. (Though most days he'd rather be running the press or binding books than manning the counter, he can occasionally be found stocking shelves or existing in the shop, proper.) Notes about Finn: He has some trust, daddy, and emotional regulation issues but that's part of what makes him fun. ...right?

Since he has existed in Glynn forever, I would be up for childhood friends/enemies/acquaintances. I'd also be up for past (or current, he's pretty receptive to being flirted with.) paramours of any gender. - I noted in Finn's bio that his past relationships never got serious (...it's hard to have a serious relationship when you're lying about who you are/whether you have any abilities after-all), but that doesn't mean they weren't fun. He's made myriad bad choices, the most recent of which involves having stolen things from a very important person back in Clovenne and putting himself on a Most Wanted list. He's slipped into Aurelle to lay low until things calm down.

( Week Twenty-Two Weather and Events )

Hey y'all,

Emily here! Since I'm going to be putting down some characters before the timeskip (namely Cal) and writing out some others over the timeskip (Tuck, and possibly Luke, temporarily), I have a new troublemaker to introduce in the meantime. This is Treasa (Tra-suh, but she often goes by Tess) Lawless, Radha Laweless' little sister. She's a local Searu, like her sister, so she likely has some connections with other Aurellians in town! Her full application's here but here are some relevant facts:

Oh hello there yes it's me pink with The Hardass, an Aurellian Searu Roan asshole for your consideration. This here's Radha Lawless (pronounced RYE-uh), but you can call her Rye. The Lawless family has, y'know, perhaps unsurprisingly, a bad reputation in Glynn, but that doesn't slow her down much. (Her precious, perfect baby sister will be coming in shortly, watch out.)

For plotting purposes, Rye's been to jail twice, for short stints (she done got caught burgling); joined the Roans about two and a half years ago; has lived in Glynn her whole life; and has been a healer-for-hire for easily a decade. (Though, post-Fade, she's as likely to heal them successfully as she is to shock them, whoops.)

Excited to antagonize and be antagonized with this ray of sunshine. Let's plot!!

It's that time again! Cece Moreau writes (secretly!!) for the in-game newspaper La Vie Belailles so now's the time to have your characters, or made up or NPCs, post questions for Gisele (under pseudonyms, naturally) below, and I/Cece shall respond Dear Abby style. Hello all! I'm Kia (she/her) and am so excited to be joining the game. I'm in my 30s & live in New Orleans, though I'm originally from Australia. I found y'all through Emily, who is an internet-poetry-community friend. I've been roleplaying since I was a wee pre-teen on Yahoo! chatrooms, but this is my first return to IJ / journal format RP in...quite some time! I work from home, so am available sporadically throughout the day and usually pretty late into the night. You can catch me on gchat (kia.groom at gmail dot com) for plotting and chit chat.


I'm dropping Adaline Auster into the fray, a 23 year old Clovennian noblewoman, polio patient, and shifter, sister of the inimitable Courtenay Auster. Adaline has fled to Aurelle to escape an arranged marriage orchestrated by her father, though she has framed this as "clearing her head" and "seeking her brother's counsel." Her current plan is to draw out the stalemate for as long as possible, until escalation becomes (inevitably) necessary.


Adaline likely has some history with other Clovennian woman of her same age, though she's been largely absent from the public eye due to complications following a childhood polio infection. As a result of the isolation she has periodically experienced, especially during her childhoods and teens, she often comes across as...a little bit strange. She has little regard for social niceties and is often extremely blunt. She also has a fascination with Clovennian folklore, especially faerie legends, which others frame as whimsical (or, more unkindly, borderline delusional). Her interest may, more accurately, be considered a conspiracy theory. She's also handy with a screwdriver: if you want your watch fixed, Adaline is your girl.

Ava Mercier: Allwyn's older sister (hi, Wynnie), Viola's Lady's Maid, and general stick-in-the-mud. She perhaps proudly embodies the title of The Prude and is practically a professional at having her delicate sensibilities stepped on. Ava's new to town (she lives/works at the Rosier Manor), and definitely new to Aurelle. She's incredibly easy to antagonize/tease/bully/fluster/embarrass/torture (even on accident), just saying.

Hey y'all! I'm Ally (she/her), and Im so excited to be here~

A lil 'bout me: I'm in my early 30s and dont understand how that happened, I work in IT so I'm digitally available most of the time. I have two adorable cats Jiji and Minerva, named after Kiki's Delivery Service and Harry Potter respectively. I've been an RPer for about as long as I can remember, I love telling stories and being creative.

My bb here is Lillian Greene, who is loosely unintentionally inspired by Jane from Disney's Tarzan. She's both an academic and an artist, she's curious about everything, and loves to learn and explore. In public she does her best to be a shining example of demure politeness, and is much more vibrant and at ease among her family and friends. She's been in Glynn for about 5 years, as her father is on a grant to study plants in the area, and she goes along with him as his assistant.

Jon here, with a brand new Aurellian priest, arriving just in time to take the reins of Glynn's spiritual welfare from a soon-to-be-absent Calvin.

Meet Bleddyn, or Father Cadoc, itinerant Robor and Aurellian separatist. He's here to remind the Faithful of Glynn of the importance of their culture, especially their independence from Clovenne occupation and the caste system from which they have strayed.

Open to any and all ties in backstory, especially with Roans who have read his rhetoric, or Cloves who witnessed his speeches at the trials for the perpetrators of the Civil War. For the Faithful, I'll be attempting to post sermons for every game week, and hope to see all of you at admission.

Hello! Anastasia here! With a guy named Dr. Linden Cress who was once engaged to Viola Rosier but whoospiedoodles that ended poorly about six months ago.

He's coming back into town mostly to poke the Rosiers, but he's also a fairly talented and well-known Clovennian doctor who has a lot of ties to the upper crust and politics despite coming from a comfortable (but middle class) background. He is also Gifted, and his Gift naturally helps him with his work because he's EFFICIENT like that - he can numb people by touching them! Great at parties.

He's a bit of a stodgy guy, but I imagine a lot of Cloves might know him (or know of him); Aurellians will probably just be snooted at because he's a bit of an asshole in how he parrots the Clovennian party line of "ew, the provincials" (though he'll at least try to be polite about it).

If you have any ideas for plotlines or connections or whatever let me know! I am totally open for him antagonizing (or helping) (or both) other characters!

Characters who won't let Niamh forget that her uncle, Glynn's old tax collector, cheated lots of folks out of their money before skipping town a decade or so ago

Someone to tempt Niamh into taking pelyndryn (spelling not included)

Emily is going to be bringing in Niamh's brother, Rory, and together, they are going to work at Heron's Bookstore. More on Rory to come! But keep in mind that they come as a sibling duo! I'd be happy to scheme with you AND with Emily if you want to build something off of that.

Hey friends,

I am writing to let you all know that starting now I will be taking a hiatus. A combination of factors has contributed to the decision to take space from the game, and the mods have been incredibly supportive of this decision, for which I'm so, so grateful.

This is not goodbye forever. For those of you with whom I had planned scenes, I am sorry for any inconvenience. Hopefully we can backdate them at a future date. In the meantime, it will be safe to say that Lucia, Hazel, and Reagan are going to be moved to background characters. I don't mind them being mentioned in scenes, but I would like to be asked and checked in with if or before anyone wants to puppet them.

None of them have major contributions to the game rn, but here are some things to know just incase they impact your own characters or lines:

-Lucia gets Ellevra. It makes her pretty unhinged. Drapes in Belmont manor may not make it through Carnivale. Will be very interested in pursuing the story.

-Lucia also corners Ciara and gets her under wing.

-Reagan stole a small amount of Ellevra for Luke. She gave it to him to see if it might counter the loss of his Gift. She will be pretty much laying low in the aftermath of the attack.

That's really it, I think? If I forgot anything please let me know. I'll still be around on gchats and can be reached via dropbox if necessary. Thanks for your understanding, and hopefully I'll be back sooner than later.

Emily here! The last month or so has been a trip for most of us, so I figured I'd throw up another little OOC post for plotting purposes in case people needed or wanted it. I figured this could offer a centralized location for plotting.

Carnivale is beginning to wrap up and the mods have much of the next week change in place, but the question now is what things to people still want to do at Carnivale before we switch things up to next gameweek? I believe the biggest plot-affecting things that are cooking are:

- the Resistance attack, which I know Jaime and Mandy (and potentially Jack?) are working on and
- the Simon-punching-Antoine setup for Sy to go to jail that Linds and Anastasia are writing

But if any of y'all have other character-based stuff you want to happen, here is the place to comment, so we can get threads going.
