[Handwritten Letter, Delivered to Mrs. Anne Blythe]
I hope this letter finds you in the picture of health, Mrs. Blythe, and in no way is this meant to be at all accusatory, as I am sure that by no means were you or any of your -- shall we call them "accomplices" -- were in any way involved in the untimely misfortune that has recently befallen both me, and the entire world.
But it is with a heavy heart that I am forced to inform you that something of great importance and value to me has gone missing, and the date of this terrible crime appears to fall upon the same evening that you and a number of your "accomplices" were visiting my humble establishment, the Hercule Poirot Fairground. As you well know from your visit, ours is a traditional establishment devoted with extreme dedication to the sacred art of greyhound racing. We pride ourselves in breeding and showcasing only the most noble and talented hounds as we stride towards the preservation of this traditional and vastly important sport.
Our prize hound, a beautiful beast by the name Shilling, disappeared from our ranks. Stranger still, guests of the Redfern insist that on the night of Shilling's theft, they heard the cries of a distressed hound coming from a room at the very hotel where they slept! And as pained as I am to say it, and indeed as confusing as it might be for you to hear -- as again, I am certain that a charming, respectable and married woman such as yourself had not so much as a finger involved in this dastardly endeavour -- the sounds of the hound are suspected as originating from your room.
I hope you understand the importance of this matter, and the lengths at which I will go to secure the safe return of my Shilling, so if there is any information -- any at all -- that you'd like to pass along to my attention: such as -- as an example -- an explanation, or a ransom note, I urge you to do so quickly, as Shilling it desperately missed.Yours Sincerely,
Lord Anthony Baskerville
