The apple appears between olive leaves
Splash of red in the green of summer fields
It brings young men to their knees

A thunder clap that moves the trees
Dreams in the distance remain concealed
The apple appears between olive leaves

Smoke swept away by the warm breeze
All spirits broken remain unhealed
It brings young men to their knees

Truths in which they all believe
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield
The apple appears between olive leaves

Hearts adorned on brass buttoned sleeves
Until away they soar in coffins sealed
It brings young men to their knees

A moment of silence but no reprieve
Fallen fruit in a deflowered field.
The apple appears between olive leaves
It brings young men to their knees

Pte. Walter Blythe

How astounding. I could never imagine meeting a goddess that sounds so remarkably mortal. How dull.

She is a goddess of mortals, child. It is not strange that she would take after them, in her fashion.

Aiya Lord Felagund! I defer to your wisdom! For you have dined with the Valar and been scorned by them all the same.

And forgiven in turn, so the lore says.

But aye, there was a time I knew them well. And she reminds me little of them, in wisdom or in majesty.

Oh aye! I should not be the only one to leave the wisdom to the wise and the majesty to the majestic.

Aye, mortals are strange beasts in that way. When they create gods, they create them in their own image, and with the same faults. They have very little imagination.

Ai! Lord Felagund I see the problem! They created gods. Are we not the creations ourselves? Eru save us all.

Indeed we are. We are the Children of Eru, his creations. They create their own gods, which please them and stoke their egos, while they forsake His name and cry foul in the darkness, blaming Him for their own folly.

A wise-woman I knew once believed Morgoth to be more powerful than Eru himself. They are foolish creatures, Men. And so very young.

And they say that I am the fool, my lord. Blessed Eru, save me! Or strike me down, either way. Though I should hope against the latter, I have no desire to die.

It sounds painful.

Painful? Oh, aye. But it is through such acts of honor, bravery, and yes, pain that you may win the greatest renown. My cousin is remembered because of the way he bravely fought the servants of Morgoth, though they pounded him to the dust. My father, though wise beyond any measure, has no deeds of glory in battle, no brave death, and is thus forgotten.

Oh aye, I know the lore well, my lord. But as I have said a thousand times I am not made for valor or renown. You all shall die your awful deaths and I shall live out the ages of the world telling others about it.

With a bowl of fruit, my harp and swans of black.

We must all choose our own paths, little one. Painful death was not my choice, but my obligation. My word is, and always shall be, my bond.

You know, don't you, that Eru and God come from entirely different planes and can exist independent of one another? It's not like a battle between the gods here on this earth. Even the Asgardians know that.

Man may have killed God with his ideologies but it sure as hell wasn't to "please" us or "stoke [our] own egos" while we forsake his name. Any good Englishman

The author of your series

I don't understand why we have to be at odds or why ego has to be involved when there is a great deal of compatibility between the lot of us. We're all capable of love.

I am of the Firstborn, your magic shall wash off of me the moment it falls upon me. Alas, I shall never know what it means to be a swan. Elwing knew only for a short while of the nightingales herself.
