[ 002 ]
The town square is silent.

Cornelia paces, waiting for people to show up. She thumbs the hunting knife she'd picked up from a house near where she had woken up. Should any troublemakers appear, she was prepared-- unless, of course, they appeared with a gun. The city was too big to explore alone; too dangerous to wander the streets aimlessly. So that's why she doesn't have one herself. The only reason she didn't go to pick anyone up so they didn't have to traverse alone was because that would be setting herself up for an ambush. For a similar reason she waits off to the side of the square, concealed behind a food vendor, rather than sitting in the middle.

Trusting these people could be her downfall-- so she won't trust until they've proved themselves. But they're largely children. And she thinks of her late sister because of that. Euphie wouldn't want these people to go around alone in a place where any danger could be lurking. So that's her primary motivation in doing this. It's a mixture of that and the wholehearted desire to go home, to find the answers of this place. Cornelia knows returning home could be impossible with or without help, but she isn't about to give up on that hope. So she seeks help, because her chances are higher that way.

She scans the surrounding areas, alert. If that false Zero were to appear before her, she thinks, child or not-- she would destroy him. Anger swells once again, a sort of madness and hysteria that she finds unbecoming in other people. Cornelia breathes.

[ ooc: Mingling post! Starter in prose, please don't hesitate to switch to action. Cornelia isn't going to be coming out of the shadows until there are a few people there/ someone she knows appears, so please interact among yourselves!

Cornelia strides forward with purpose and dignity. Coming to the center of the square she waits for their eyes to fall on her. She's easy to notice; bright purple hair, a flamboyant uniform and cape, her boots propelling her to just over six feet tall. She lets a small smile play over her lips before she speaks. It's easy to command; she's most comfortable doing this.

"Good morning, denizens of Asper." Her voice is booming and loud in the empty space. "I am Cornelia li Britannia, the woman to call you all here today. With quite a few people here, we can begin the meeting proper." She pauses, scans the crowd and allows them to digest that for a moment. "The first order of business is to find a centralized location to work out of. There is an apartment building not too far from here-- that is where we will be heading. Once there, we shall assign everyone an apartment and work out a watch to protect and secure the building. Next will come the gathering of resources-- food and water as well as weapons."

Another pause. Cornelia looks out over these people-- people who are quickly becoming viewed as her own people, subordinates, and thus fondly-- and speaks again. "Does anyone have any objections to this plan of action? If not, let us be off. This way." She gestures for everyone to start walking in the direction she points.

[ ooc: Reply to this comment if your character has something to say to Cornelia before they head out to the apartments! Feel free to switch to action etc. ]

[ Yoshitsugu takes his time before approaching; a clever woman is nothing but trouble. Experience has taught him that this will be a risk... But, he will do what is necessary. He floats up along side her silently. She probably won't even notice him until he speaks. ]

Cornelia li Britannia. You are quite capable.

[ She prides herself on her ability to sense the presence of others, to lock onto potential threats. So for this man to sneak up on her like this throws her-- not that she shows it.

She looks him over and is silent for a moment as she does so. He's bizarre looking to say the least. And then there's the part where he's floating. But Cornelia just gives an amused smile before looking away and continuing to walk along. She'll ask about what he's riding on in a minute. ]

I know I am. Who are you?

[ He knows that look she gives him, but it is her arrogance that offends him. It is nothing short of disgusting. How he loathes her already. ]

I am Yoshitsugu Otani. [ A pause as he watches her. ] Tell me, where did you gain your rather impressive leadership abilities?

[ The name is not familiar, though obviously an Eleven name. Her encounter with Suzaku has all but shattered her confidence in such people, but she can put that aside in the name of efficiency. What matters is getting home.

She can sense he's trying to butter her up, but responds anyways. Though she does not sound entirely amused. ]

The Britannian Imperial Army and my siblings taught me what there is to know. And also, what are you sitting on? I've never seen such a device.

[ A military woman? Flattery of no use? She reminds him entirely too much of Magoichi. He aches for destruction even remembering that foul woman. The mention of siblings, though... They must be important to her. How useful. ] It is little more than a palanquin.

[ How curious that she thinks it is the palanquin which allows his movement. He wonders about this 'Britannia' place she comes from. ]

Certainly. [ Though he has no real intention of letting her if he can avoid it. He pauses for a moment before asking: ] The place you are from, Britannia, what is it like?

Vast. Far bigger than where I am sure you come from; it varies so much along its landscape that it's difficult to summarize.

[ There's a tiny swell of pride in her voice; it's clear she thinks Britannia is a glorious place. But then doubt enters her voice. The child guide did mention, briefly, something about other worlds... could that be this at work? ]

How haven't you heard of Britannia?

[ 'A Number such as yourself should know Britannia well' is what she is thinking. ]

[ Yoshitsugu is well aware that the vastness of a country has little to do with its power. But she does seem to have her talents, so he'll withhold judgement until a later time. To think he'd hold any recognition for her home... Be it misplaced pride or ignorance, she grates on his nerves. ] I am afraid my knowledge of Europe is rather limited.

[ She pauses in her walking to look back at him. They are not in our their world any longer; that much is already obvious. So perhaps each of them being from somewhere different isn't surprising, and so Yoshitsugu's ignorance as to the might of the Britannian homeland is in turn unsurprising.

She drops the subject in the favor of something they might share. ]

[ Yoshitsugu is silent for a moment. He's very aware that she's changing the topic but-- She has caught him-- not off guard, but-- He had not expected her to breach this topic so soon. For all her talk of status, she is quite lacking in manners. It will be the death of her. But what shall he say? Keep her ignorant or use his illness to gain her pity? Surely an ill man is less threatening. When he speaks again, his voice is as calm and polite as ever. ]

I am afraid my illness is more grave than that.

[ Though she can't say what sort of illness he has, she is glad their worlds share illness in common even if they do not share Britannia. She looks him over a moment more, almost as if trying to gauge what he's thinking. He's peculiar and there is obvious pity in her motions; not sympathy, nothing as personal as that, but the distant feeling of 'that's too bad'.

Being polite is not in her agenda; keeping someone with a potentially contagious disease out of her apartments is, however. No matter how obviously intelligent they may be. ]

I see. If you aren't contagious we'll see if we have any doctors among our number that can lend you a hand; it'd be a waste for anyone with a brain to die here.

[ And his plans unfold perfectly. But pity from this woman, this woman who speaks of doctors. What can a doctor for the misery he suffers-- the misery that rots in his gut, decaying his soul more than his body-- What can a doctor do to rob him of his enlightenment? In the end, this woman will pity none but herself. Yoshitsugu will keep his temper, but how he yearns to destroy this woman. He is thankful he is not so impulsive.

Yoshitsugu's voice nearly wavers when he speaks, but he manages. ]

I have a longtime companion who not only remains healthy, but informs me I cannot die. [ There's almost a hint of amusement in his voice, but it does not last. ] But, there is nothing in this world-- nor any-- that can cure me.

[ There's a slightly shaky undercurrent to his voice that she catches immediately. Is it a sore subject for him? She nods once, accepting what he says about its contagiousness. ]

I somehow doubt that in all the worlds everything has to offer it is incurable, whatever it may be. But there is little point in treating someone who refuses to be cured; it's a waste of time and medicine.

Did you have purpose in approaching me? Or perhaps you just wanted to chat.

[ There's nothing that runs though Yoshitsugu's mind at this point that already hasn't. He hates this woman. She is aggravating. He will crush that pride out of her. But he will tolerate her until it is no longer necessary. If this is the last she'll say about it, that's enough. ]

My apologies for not saying sooner; I wish to offer help in any capacity that I am able.

Like yourself, many of my talents were gained through military ventures. [ He watches her closely for reaction as he speaks. ] I have also served as a longtime advisor to a lord and within the Ministry of Justice in my country.
