Who: Isabel and Grace. What: Grace has some questions for Isabel, but Isabel might not have the answers she’s looking for. Where: Isabel’s office downtown. When: Monday, before Grace’s classes. Rating: PG. Status: Complete. Isabel had just sent off an infuriated email to her assistant when her receptionist let her know that she had another guest without appointment: this time it was a name she was more familiar with. Grace Darrow. She had some idea about the girl, or at least the circles she travelled in and what she did, and so Isabel was more than happy to see her.
Hopefully, she would not have to see her again. She was already furious that Sheriff Shrek was snooping around in her past. While her tracks were fairly well covered, she was fairly sure he had no right to be snooping, and her lawyer ought to go over things with a fine toothed comb. Just to make sure. She had a lot at stake, after all, and being unable to leave Babylon meant getting into serious trouble was actually a threat to her.
At least her son could leave, in a pinch, but he could just as easily get caught in the crossfire.
The receptionist had a short exchange with Isabel and smiled at Grace, nodding at her and motioning to her employer’s office. Isabel was waiting in her usual spot, seated, dark eyes boring into Grace as soon as she entered.
“Is there something I can help you with, detective?” she asked without preamble. Although she was smiling, it was a cold thing, muted fury still lingering in her gaze. Whatever the Sheriff was doing, this little P.I. didn't even have the authority to question her. Perhaps if she sorted out this fair-haired cherub, the Sheriff would back off before her lawyer even intervened.
Doubtful, but Isabel would do her best to make an impression.
