Tron Sequel in 3D!
As reported by Dark Horizons:

Now according to 'Zephyr', the studio is filling up its schedule again with big sequels and franchise entries. Most exciting is that the studio plans to release a sequel to 80's sci-fi classic "Tron" in Digital Disney 3D in the Spring of 2011. Previous reports had Joseph Kosinski in talks to direct.

Thoughts?

Easy.

Two words.

HELL NO!

Granted I am not surprise since Disney has made numerous sequels from their various films, but really....does TRON really need a sequel?

The whole story was done from start to finish. Flynn(Jeff Bridges) got the proof he needed and now owns the company.
There is no need for a sequel.

Also, if memory serves, the video game did a heck of a lot better than TRON did in the theater. I wonder if Disney remembers that performance?

Also again, Tron was shown in a different time and a different generation. Would the 2000 Generation feel the same way we did from movies back then?

I admit I like TRON. Jeff Bridges is an absolute goof in that film and very entertaining. David Warner had a great role as both "Dillinger" and as "Sark". One of his most memorable films.

Granted, the 80's have now become a merchant's dream now since its considered a collectable now with the "retro" and "old school" crowd.

Anyhoot, there's my two cents worth. In all honesty, I haven't been a fan of Disney for quite sometime due to their pratices lately. The sequels for some of their films were horrid.

I have to admit I'm quite the sucker for 80s remakes, no matter how awful they might actually be in the end -- I need to resist! I'm still wondering if they'll make the sequel or not, since it seems like this still might only be a rumor.

I remember seeing Tron in theatres. My god, I was so young then .... I don't even remember my age, but VERY young. I thought it was "the coolest thing ever," and I remember wishing that I could live in a video game. (I suppose I conveniently forgot the more sinister aspects of it.) I have mixed feelings about a sequel. I don't really think it needs one. There was resolution at the end of the original film, and trying to "update" it would only take away from the charm of the first movie, in my eyes.

Haha! I had some similar thoughts about it, though I think I would've been more at home in Dig Dug than any other game.
