Place: The Burrow
Date: 1 August 1997 Late Evening
What: The Few Remaining Guests clean up the mess with the Weasleys and discuss what they're going to do now.
Status: Semi Private/InComplete

Fleur sat in the garden on one of the few chairs that had not been overturned. The tent was shambles, the flowers and banners strewn into mud by the boot heels of the "Ministry" officials who had interrupted her wedding and detained those guests who had not fled for "questioning". She herself had sat for nearly an hour while a vile little man with crooked teeth had leered at her and made nasty accusations at her until she finally convinced them that no, she had not seen Harry, he had not been anywhere near the wedding, as for her brother-in-law Ronald, he was upstairs in the attic, terribly ill, and the whole family was heartbroken over it.

Outwardly she was the perfect picture of calm. She'd faced near death with Bill just the other day when Moody had been killed and George maimed. And she could do this too. She would not let them win. And they would find out nothing about Harry from anyone here.

Inwardly, her heart was breaking just a little. It was childish, and naive, yes, but her wedding day was supposed to be one of the happiest of her life, and now forever she would remember the screams and horror of it, the fear in Molly's face as she worried for Harry and Hermione and Ron.

In her hands, she held her bouquet, never to be tossed or caught, her fingers smoothing the petals, trying to steel herself as the last few officials left. Hardly anyone was here, just family and the order, and Molly was in the kitchen, making tea and sandwiches while Bill and Arthur and Charlie made sure the authorities were off their property.

For better or for worse. Yes. Indeed. And yet Bill was hers now, her husband, and nothing, no Death Eaters would ever take any of that away.

Bill left his dad and Charlie near the lane that ran in front of their property. He needed a few moments to himself to try and rid himself of the rage he felt. They'd ruined his wedding, the one bit of normalcy he and Fleur had. It had taken every ounce of self-control not to tear the Ministry official who'd led Fleur away limb from limb. And that had frightened him...the depth of his anger, the amount of control it took to not give into it. Remus had said there would be effects from his attack.

He leaned against a tree and took several deep breaths, letting the clean air of the Burrow fill his lungs, clear his head. Glancing at the garden, he caught sight of Fleur sitting there, holding her bouquet. His wife, he thought, feeling himself relax even more. Pushing off from the tree, he made his way to the garden.

"Hello, Mrs. Weasley," he said with a grin.

Fleur looked up, the tightness in her face relaxing as she saw Bill. Today had seemed like a dream, a gauzy beautiful dream the first parts, a nightmare the latter. The ceremony, dancing with him, being surrounded by their family and friends.

"Mon dieu," she said, standing up and wrapping her arms around his neck in a hug before snuggling her head down on his shoulders. "I thought they would never leave." For a few terrifying moments, she had thought they might not leave, that people would be hurt or worse. When they had taken her away from Bill it had taken everything to not show her fear.

His arms went around her waist. "I'm sorry. That your day was ruined," he murmured. The anger flared again and he pushed it down.

"Can't do anything about that, but we could have another dance?" he offered. Then he shook his head. "I've got a better idea. Wait here." He dropped a kiss on the top of her head before hurrying into the house. Rummaging through the ice box, he found fixings for sandwiches and made a few. There were biscuits in the jar on the counter so he took several of those too along with a couple of butterbeers.

"C'mon," he said to Fleur, heading toward the pond. Stripping off his dress robes, he laid them on the ground. "Sit," he commanded, laying out their picnic.

Before she had a chance to answer him, he was off, Fleur finished picking up the chairs and stacking them with a wave of her wand until he came back, and then, she followed him silently to the pond, looking up at him with a querying gaze before raising her eyebrows.

"My day was not ruined," she said, giving him a cautious half smile. "It was merely rudely disrupted. I still have you at the end of it all, no?" Still, she sank down onto the robes and pulled her knees up to her chest, the skirts of her wedding robes spilling around her, pale in the darkness.

She let out a breath. She wasn't hungry, although they hadn't eaten much, being a typical bride and groom with everyone eager to speak with them, congratulate them.

"Do you think they're alright?" she asked quietly, not saying who, knowing Bill would know. It was not wise to say anymore, not knowing what had been left behind, or who might still be listening.

"They're fine," he reassured. He didn't think anyone was left to overhear but it was better to be safe. "Everyone had a good time up until they had to leave. They're no different."

He picked up a sandwich and handed it to her. "Eat. You didn't have anything all afternoon." He noticed because it was his job to notice these things officially now. He was sure that doddering old wizard who'd married them had mentioned that.

"You look absolutely beautiful by the way, mon coeur. And yes, you have me at the end of it all. Always." He took a large bite of his own sandwich and chewed.

"I hope that is so," she said, still worried and unable to help the niggling in her stomach at the thought of what would happen to them if the Death Eaters found them.

She took the sandwich from him and stared at it before taking a single bite. It was like ashes in her mouth and she swallowed it with difficulty before putting it back down, chasing it with a sip of the butterbeer, which she detested. She much preferred water.

"It is just too much to believe that all of this has happened," she said, her voice a little tight. "What is going to happen now? To your family? We're supposed to just be getting started and now... this." Her mother had begged her to come back to France last night, that she and Bill could both come, and she had refused. This was her home now, it was where she belonged.

She looked back up at him. "I am glad I have you Bill, you know there is nowhere else I would ever want to be, but... I worry. About you, about the ones we love. I want us all to be safe, to be happy." Like things had been a short time before, such a very short time indeed. Now Moody was dead and the Ministry overthrown, what was going to become of them?

One bite was not enough, but he also knew not to push her. Fleur Delacoeur Weasley (and he did like the sound of that) was very stubborn. So he ignored the fact that she wasn't eating.

"I worry, too, love," he admitted softly. "What happened to...the other night. I was...if anything had happened to you, I don't - " He broke off with a shake of his head. "What's going to happen is this. We're going to do what is right. A great man once said that what is right isn't always what is easy. And we'll come through it." He had to believe that. They'd be alright. They had to be. Otherwise, he'd send her to France where she'd be safe.

He set down his sandwich and moved closer, settling his arm around her shoulders. "We'll come through it," he repeated, more firmly.

This was what she'd needed these past few hours, not sandwiches or him trying to pretend nothing had happened, but this.

"We both will," she whispered, moving closer to him and burying her face in his chest, her eyes closed as she felt his hand smoothing over her back, fingers snagging just a little on the soft silk.

"Promise me we both will."

His other arm went around her, pulling her closer. "We are going to be alright. Because I am not willing to give you up. It took too much for us to get to this point," he added with a grin, "because you're so bloody stubborn."

He pulled back to look at her. "C'mon, we should help clean up. Make sure Mum and Dad are doing alright. Then we can go home."

She looked up at him, then leaned in to kiss him, her eyes half closing as she just soaked in this moment.

"We are going to be," she repeated.

"I love you, Bill."
