Fleur sat in the garden on one of the few chairs that had not been overturned. The tent was shambles, the flowers and banners strewn into mud by the boot heels of the "Ministry" officials who had interrupted her wedding and detained those guests who had not fled for "questioning". She herself had sat for nearly an hour while a vile little man with crooked teeth had leered at her and made nasty accusations at her until she finally convinced them that no, she had not seen Harry, he had not been anywhere near the wedding, as for her brother-in-law Ronald, he was upstairs in the attic, terribly ill, and the whole family was heartbroken over it.
Outwardly she was the perfect picture of calm. She'd faced near death with Bill just the other day when Moody had been killed and George maimed. And she could do this too. She would not let them win. And they would find out nothing about Harry from anyone here.
Inwardly, her heart was breaking just a little. It was childish, and naive, yes, but her wedding day was supposed to be one of the happiest of her life, and now forever she would remember the screams and horror of it, the fear in Molly's face as she worried for Harry and Hermione and Ron.
In her hands, she held her bouquet, never to be tossed or caught, her fingers smoothing the petals, trying to steel herself as the last few officials left. Hardly anyone was here, just family and the order, and Molly was in the kitchen, making tea and sandwiches while Bill and Arthur and Charlie made sure the authorities were off their property.
For better or for worse. Yes. Indeed. And yet Bill was hers now, her husband, and nothing, no Death Eaters would ever take any of that away.
