WHO Mr. Kaden and Josh
WHEN August 26, Mid-Morning
WHERE Academy Main Building to start → Ladon Dorm
Josh had been thankful for the silent ride from the airport to St. Margaret’s Academy. It was uncommon for him to appreciate such a thing. Actually, most days, he could easily say that he hated the quite. He didn’t like to be alone with his thoughts, but since he’d agreed to move to the private school, his mother had not given him a second of peace. For days, she’d been rattling off about how fantastic the grounds were, all the different houses, his classes, the lifelong friends he would make: it never seemed to end. She only stopped to take a breath that was long enough to say goodbye. Since then, he’d finally had a chance to let his decision sink in. Josh was about to be completely alone for the first time in his life. He wouldn’t know a single person. Not having his support system, as small as it was at home, sent him into a sort of panic. But it was too late now to go back now. Josh was enrolled and, even if his mother would allow him to come home, his powers weren’t in check. If he went left and someone got hurt because of it, he would never be able to live with himself.
He’d been told that someone named Mr. Kaden would be showing him to his room, that he was the Head of House for Ladon. Josh only had a vague sense of what the meant. He was certain, though, that this professor (or whatever he was) could easily make his life difficult if Josh got on his bad side. If he was lucky, he would manage to stay in everyone’s good graces with little effort. He was already judging the teachers of St. Margaret’s by those he had had at home, and was convinced that his newness would only take him so far before he had to start putting effort in.
With his arms crossed over his chest, Josh looked around at the main building where he’d been dropped off. He did have to admit, the place was pretty swank. He might have been alone, but at least the scenery was nice.
