Log: Teddy & Billy
The mission had been a success, as much as any mission where you had to make sure that the ‘bad guys’ won was a success. Billy had walked away with cuts and bruises, nothing major that wouldn’t heal in a few days. Honestly, he thought that he looked kind of dashing with a cut across his eyebrow and a bruise blossoming around it. It was one of those ‘hot guy injuries’ in the movies. That and the cut just above his cheekbone. He thought he was rocking it. The bruises under his ribs were a bit more painful but that was to be expected. He’d been flung into a stone pillar, after all, he was lucky that he hadn’t broken anything.
He shouldn’t have held back with his powers, in hindsight that wasn’t helping anyone and he could have done more if he’d just let go. But that was neither here nor there, he just had to focus on the now and the now was getting home in one piece and crawling into bed with his fiance.
Teleporting himself back into the apartment, Billy used the last of his energy to wave his hand and change out of his clothes, get rid of any and all traces of sand from himself and then walked into the bedroom that they shared (the other one, since the apartment was for two people, was gradually getting filled with stuff), climbed into the bed behind Teddy’s sleeping form and wrapped his arm around the other’s waist, tucking himself in close behind and pressing his face between Teddy’s shoulder blades.
He’d just cuddle here, for now. He was tired but he wasn’t exhausted. If he dropped off, so be it, but he just wanted to be near Teddy. That made the world seem like a much better place. He let out a contented sigh and closed his eyes, relaxed and snuggled in, hand splayed on Teddy’s stomach.
Ever since Billy had left on his mission without him (which was just weird) Teddy had been doing everything in his power not to think about what was happening. If he wasn’t training he was cleaning and if he wasn’t doing either of those things he was working out until he was absolutely exhausted, bone tired. So much so that by the time he got into bed he went straight out like a light evident in how he didn’t stir at first when Billy joined him but then when he felt the soft breath on his back and the slight chill of delicate fingers on his chest that Teddy realised he was no longer alone.
Thankfully he was wingless this evening so it was easy for Billy to cuddle closer and for Teddy to turn and pull the other man into his arms, a kiss being placed atop his head.
“Hey,” he rumbled softly. “You okay?”
Billy smiled as Teddy rolled over, tugging him against his chest, arms tightening around Billy’s narrow shoulders and pulling him in. There was nothing better than the feeling of being wrapped up in Teddy’s arms. Well, maybe one thing. But. He closed his eyes again, pressed a kiss to the warm skin under his head and nodded.
“Yeah” he said quietly, tipping his head up to nudge Teddy’s jaw. And he was okay, fetching bruises and cuts aside. “Yeah, just got back, was debriefed, came home. Didn’t mean to wake you. You okay?”
Teddy shifted a little to get a better look at Billy, light eyes running over the darker man’s face and cataloguing every single cut and bruise. It could have been worse but still it was far from ideal.
“Mm, yeah, just glad you’re back. I was worried.”
He threaded his fingers into Billy’s hair and lightly rubbed at his scalp. “And you’re sure that you’re okay?”
Billy hummed as Teddy’s fingers brushed through his hair and he tipped his head back into it. “Y-yeah,” he said quietly, “it was just rough. We- we had to allow an assassination to happen and that felt wrong.” He smiled a little, sadly, “They were just trying to save their Gods.”
He lifted his hand, splayed his fingers across Teddy’s chest to feel the strong thumping of a heartbeat under his palm.
“But I’m okay. Didn’t like going without you.”
“That sounds rough.” Teddy circled the back of Billy’s neck with the blunt tips of his nails before his hand repeated the movement through his hair again. “Why’d you have to let the assassination happen?”
He gave a small answering mhm in response to the whole Billy going off on a mission without him.
“Feels super weird and I don’t like it.”
“Fixed point in time,” Billy said, obviously distracted by the touch to his hair. He had no magical energy left, he’d used what little he had left to get home, change and expel all traces of sand. “Like the destruction of Gallifrey. Someone else went back too, tried to change history.”
It felt wrong that they’d gone back and meddled with the timeline, and he made a note to ask for confirmation that they hadn’t broken anything.
“Hopefully next time our teams can go together. Or, y’know, no more missions. That’d be good too. Less missions, more random magic muffins.”
“Ugh,” Teddy murmured. “That sucks.” He still felt a little raw about the whole destruction of Gallifrey because that was harsh and the poor Doctor had lost everybody and everything that had ever mattered to them.
He leaned down and pressed a kiss to Billy’s temple.
“Mm, let’s hope so, but I am so glad you’re back.”
“I’m glad that I’m back too,” Billy mumbled in response. “Did I miss anything? Did anything interesting happen while I was gone?” He hoped not, but it was possible that something else had gone down. It felt like things weren’t going to get any easier for them from here. He kissed the underside of Teddy’s jaw again, just enjoying the easy affection.
He snuggled a little closer. “You think we’ll get to go home soon? I miss our apartment. And being away from all of our friends really makes me think we should try and reach out to them again. Not to form the team again or anything but just… for brunch and stuff. I hope Tommy’s okay.”
“Well, a couple people disappeared,” Teddy shared as he leaned into the kiss because that felt nice. “Like full on vanished. Apparently they were stuck in some sort of pyramid where they had to solve puzzles and stuff. Really weird.” And then of course there was the mist taking people away. “We also lost a couple more people to the mist.” Was there anything else? Teddy couldn’t think of anything.
Honestly Teddy was hoping they got to go home soon because he was missing it and like Billy said he was missing their friends and everything that made home home. Thankfully he had Billy and that was important.
“I’m sure he is,” he assured Billy. “Probably annoying the crap out of somebody.”
“I wish he was annoying the crap out of somebody here,” Billy admitted, “just so I knew he was alright. Haven’t spoken to him in a while.” He tightened his arm over Teddy’s waist and looped a leg over Teddy’s for good measure. “Also, the mists can shove off if they think they get to take you back without me.”
He sighed. “For now, though, I’m just glad to be back in one piece to find that you’re still here.”
“You and me both,” Teddy assured Billy. He and Tommy had gotten close during the period when Billy had all but checked out of reality and had been wrapped up in his own head. Things didn’t feel the same without him around. A chuckle rumbled in the depths of his chest when Billy all but clung to him like a barnacle did to the side of a ship as he affirmed that the mists had another thing coming if they thought they could take Teddy without Billy.
He reached down with his thumb and gently tipped Billy’s head back. “Me too,” Tedy leaned down a moment later and pressed a soft loving kiss to Billy’s lips. “Really glad.”
