Who: Mabel and Mitchell
What: Meeting during ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!
When: Early evening, early fall
Where: Target in Hixson, TN, outside of Chattanooga.
At first Mitch had just sat back and watched the world crumble around him. A 'zombie' epidemic. Whatever it was, it was vaguely amusing at first. However, it spread far too quickly. He had been determined to stay in his home for as long as possible, but New York rapidly became a zone of assured doom, gloom, and death. After awhile, even the last traces of electricity were fading. He had to get out. With two bags packed and his cat on a leash, he stole the best looking car he could find and decided to head south before winter. Those who were still living seemed to be looking for others like them, or for uninfected places. Mitch only wanted a place where he could stay alive and find some peace. People were never on the top of his list anyway.
The journey had been far too long and tedious. The only bonus was that travel had never been more inexpensive. Using the GPS, he drove south for what seemed to be forever. And poorly at that. He had never driven before then. He didn't even have a specific destination until he made the decision to drive around West Virginia. And eventually he found himself in Tennessee. It was a place he was only familiar with thanks to his associations with an orchestra. Some went so far as to call it the home of jazz. Though he was doubtful of that, it was certainly the home of the blues. There was no harm in stopping by the focal points of that history on his way further to... wherever he would end up.
However, as his supplies dwindled, it also seemed like a good time to stock up. So, on the evening of that particular day, Mitch found himself in a Target outside of Chattanooga. The world may have been falling apart, but he was still whole and he did still have standards. Plus, his cat was very specific about her dry food brands. He parked up front, cautiously checked the surroundings, grabbed his cat and a baseball bat when he exited the car, locked the door behind him, and walked in.
There was no immediate sign of life within the large store, but it wasn't immediately empty. The floor was littered with a few scattered bodies, all violently injured in one way or another. He nudged one corpse with his bat just be sure there would be no springing back to life. Thankfully, there was no response. As the zombies didn't seem too clever, he figured they couldn't possibly be trying to fool anyone. Especially not zombies from Tennessee. Taking a left, he went straight for the food aisles. Who knew how much time he had to doddle.
