Darcy liked being useful. She liked having things to do that were worthwhile... So in that respect, this weird ass villain explosion or whatever it was kind of a blessing? It was weird to think about because it was bad, it was awful, it was not something she liked, like, at all. But the only benefit to it she could see was that she was helping people in a way she hadn't since arriving in Goodland. She liked her jobs, both of them, but they didn't exactly do much to tick that "be a benefit to humanity" box.
So she focused on being able to do that. She helped where she could. And right then, the best place to help was in the conference room. So she organized. She bossed volunteers around. She made sure anyone coming in from the cold wanting to warm up had the best cup of coffee she could make. And she waited. Darcy couldn't fight the way some of the others could. She was great with computers, but there were others who were better, so she stayed out of their way. She wasn't even the best at sciencing, whatever that might be... But she was great at taking care of people. So that's what she was going to do.
That day, her way of taking care of people was by shoving a couple of the casseroles that Vanya and Karen had put together earlier in the week into an oven and, once they were nice and bubbling, hauling them down to the conference room so they could be kept warm on the chafing dishes and be ready for whomever came looking for food. What she had forgotten to consider, however, was that they were both hot and heavy and she was on the second floor. Normally she'd take the stairs (gotta get those steps in), but there was no way she'd be able to balance everything and navigate stairs, so that option was out and using the elevator was in.
She managed to pad both her arms so she wasn't horrifically burned after carrying the way too flimsy aluminum baking dishes full of things that smelled amazing, but that left her needing to use her elbow to hit the button to call the elevator to her floor. And even with the padding she'd devised (towels. She was using towels), she could feel the heat starting to make its way through to her skin.
