Waking up on a slab in St. Mungo’s was not how Severus wanted to start the rest of his life, but if Merlin deemed it the place to come to, so mote it be.

Severus rolled off the cold slab of stone floating in a misty room and clutched at the sheet that had covered him. Of course he was naked, but the damned thing was almost threadbare and…. He turned his head as he saw grey-streaked blond and brown hair spilling out from under another sheet.

“Remus…” he whispered. “No! I anointed you with Uruz. Strength, potential and speed…"

Standing over Lupin’s corpse, Severus seemed to forget he was in a morgue. He reached out with shaking hands to draw the sheet away from Remus’ face, unheeding of his own sheet slithering to the floor.

There, on the left bicep Uruz glimmered. Matching it on his other bicep was Wunjo. Severus ran his fingertips over them, surprised that they were warm to the touch, even shining with a golden light. He gulped when both runes flared brightly and a third one, Kenaz—of transformation and the vital fire of life—flared over Remus’ heart.

Severus fainted as Remus moaned.

Remus rolled over and fell to the floor, stunned by the sudden stop atop a warm body. He shook his head and then opened his eyes to find himself draped over his lover…his very alive, very pink…very well-hung lover! Kenaz burned over his heart as he leaned down to kiss Severus to consciousness.

Moments passed and neither seemed to realize where they were for any of them until Severus slapped Remus’ arse with the hand that wasn’t winding itself into greying hair.

“Damn you, wolf! Scared the bitter from me lying there dead-like!” Severus groused as he stroked Remus’ back.

“Much as these ancient runes can warm one, Severus, I’d say we need to leave right quick and find a better venue to greet each other.” Remus looked around even as his hips rolled over Severus’, grinding their erections together. “Venue, clothing, no particular order…then much celebration sex.”

Severus felt Thurisaz forming on his chest. Remus jumped up and pulled Severus with him, plucking the sheet from the floor to wrap his lover in and then grabbing his own death shroud for a hasty toga.

“We’ve done our parts. Let’s away and spend the rest of our lives somewhere warm…”

That was lovely! I wish things had really ended that way. Nicely done!
Thank for the kind words. This makes so much more sense than what happened in canon.
Mmm, lovely!
Yeah, I can see this as an alternate ending for that dratted book. :)

love, lore
I started a story for "Letters to Lupin" built around these runes, but it's still unfinished. I couldn't let that research go to waste when I saw the prompt...and I always wondered "what if"...

Thanks for reading!

WONDERFUL totally awesome, I just wished J.K. would have ended her books like this. Thanks
