Happy Daft Day, [info]klynie1!
Recipient: [info]klynie1
Title: Janus Nonogenus
Author: [info]rakina
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 34,922
Prompt/Summary: I love older characters (post-Epilogue is great, but at least post-War), plot, mystery, action/adventure, non-schmoopy romance, happy endings. I have a particular weakness for political injustices and/or innovative magic.
Genres: Angst, Bonding, Romance.
Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, nor do I make any money from them.
Author's Note: DH spoilers, but no Epilogue. Latin translations are in the Endnotes.
Dear Klynie1: I think I got most of your prompt here. I didn't want to make Snape too old, so it's post-War, not post-Epilogue. I prefer to ignore the existence of the Epilogue anyway *buries head back in sand*. This story was written as a pinch hit and therefore in something of a hurry, so I do hope it cuts the mustard and hasn't fallen into the 'schmoopy' trap, which I might have skirted around at times. Happy New Snarry, dearest!

I did enjoy this. I loved Severus Latin name and I liked the slow build up of the realtionship, the fact tha Severus had managed to saty hidden for so many years. I liked the way that Harry's friends accepted him so willingly and Ron's 'tiger' comment *g*. I especially liked the fact that Severus fought so hard for Harry, one last time.

Lovely story!

I like Severus's name and profession, the way he weaves the spells. Harry, spelling away his erections (poor little possum), blindly accepting Janus (as Harry would). The scene of the curse's ultimate removal is so intense, I could almost imagine Harry feeling like he was having his heart ripped out. Wonderful work.

A soul rendering fic.
Perfect in all aspects.

You depicted the Severus Snape i imagined, without the hold of both masters.
And the way he interacted with Harry and his curse, and then the cure ... was perfect.

Sorry for the over usage of th word "Perfect", but this fic is so.

Blessed Be

I've been savoring this all morning. *hugs*

Where to start? I love it all.

Harry's condition is truly terrifying. You perfectly captured the feeling of slow suffocation and how the body fights it, as well as what's even more horrifying: the awareness. Harry knowing he was dying even as he fights for life, knowing that this may be the last time. For me, that set the emotional tone for the entire story - it felt like life or death, and the sacrifices are real.

Snape's profession is fascinating. I love that he's built himself a life where he can work a few hours a week and keep the rest of his time for himself. His sacrifice feels real, knowing he'll lose all of that if he wants to save Harry.

And the magic!! *shivers in delight* So amazing! It's so complex, yet it all makes sense. The curse itself is one of the most evil things I've ever seen, how it hides, how it fights back, how it tears Harry apart.

But most of all, it's the little touches, the bits of the personal storyteller, that I love the most. A Ministry that regulates spell-craftres. The way you foreshadow Harry's situation through the fraud case he's investigating. The unexpected sympathy Harry feels for Slughorn. The first argument between Harry and Janus. Janus ordering Harry to masturbate. The way the diagnostic spells are grid-like, while the healing spells look like abstract art. The spell ball tasting acid and sweet. Ron's 'tiger'. Snape's purple robes with silver buttons. Prick-drip (which made me spew my coffee, thank you very much!). Perfect touches that make the story come alive.

Thank you so much, sweetheart. What a lovely gift! ♥♥♥

Okay, I LOVE bonding, and I love it when magic and sex go together in a mind-blowing kind of way, so this was really a pleasure to read. The description of the wedding was also very beautiful.

I could probably have used a bit more difficulty/angst, say on Janus' side, and I missed Ron's reaction (even though the one Hermionie predicted was spot-on) to the whole proceedings. But those are, of course, minor things. Overall, I'm all wrapped up in a happy blanket from this one!

What a lovely story! I'm a sucker for bonding fics anyway and this one was spot-on. A genuine reason for the bonding, a believably mellowed Snape, a grown-up Harry who has kept his friends (I loved Luna, strong but still slightly off the wall), romantic, sensual, altogether a great read.

Oh Rakina, you've done it again! Such a marvelous story. I was really drawn into the writing.

Your description of Harry's curse was terrifying. I loved Snape's assumed name (so like him to "hide in plain sight" as it were) and his profession--I've always thought his spell creating abilities were overlooked in canon and fanon. I loved the bonding and the almost easy rapport he has with everyone.

Severus and Harry were very well characterized. Snape, living a life of his own, was realistically happy, and Harry, living with the prospect of a shortened life, was heart wrenching.

Wonderful fic all around.

I enjoyed reading this; it's a very interesting story.

Severus's name was clever, and I liked your description of the way he discovered that Harry was cursed. I also liked the clock-like imagery you used when he passed on the spell-ball to Harry. That was good to read.

I also liked the way you described how the curse wound through Harry's body, and the way Severus had to work so hard to get rid of it. I was a bit worried that it might be too much for him, but it's good that it all worked out well in the end.

A beautiful story, and romantic without being sappy and too fluffy. I really like that Severus waited for awhile before revealing his identity to Harry, and even though Harry reacted well to the revelation, his emotions all seemed very genuine. Loved your descriptions of Severus pulling the spell out too (and the sex that came along with it, of course ;) ). Excellent entry - especially for a pinch hit!

I loved this story. The onset of Harry's illness, the interaction between Harry and 'Janus'. It's too cool for words.

Have you considered writing a sequel? I'd love to see the reactions of the entire wizarding world (especially the Ministry and the Malfoys) to Severus's return from beyond the grave.

Oh wow -- what a great story! And such a sweet, natural buildup to their relationship. (Glad you opted to ignore the epilogue. I'm loath to see Harry and Severus kept apart for a whole 20 years!) I love the way Luna was instrumental in getting these two together ... she's so dear and mystical. Thanks for a lovely morning's reading. :-)

This was superb. Honestly, and a pinch hit too which I imagine makes it more difficult for you as a writer to work quickly. But by jove honey this was fantastic.

I'm not one who leaves decent reviews on fics but I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed this fic. Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

Oh, my gods! I hardly know where to begin. I wish I could write something this beautiful, this meaningful and intense. People talk about becoming a bigname fan, and how cool it would be, but the work that goes into the stories most well known fanfic writers put out is what makes their popularity justifiable and understandable.

I can tell you adored writing this story, and that it was fun for you to write. It's so well crafted and flows so freely that it's impossible to miss your obvious joy in this gorgeous creation.

I adored Luna and the small, but significant part Neville played in this fic. She, the strong, yet mysticle witch who is still such a wonderful friend, and he, the kindly, noble man who has grown out of the awkward schoolboy and into the gentle young man who complements her nicely.

Harry's feelings and thoughts concerning his friends rung very true for me. His consideration of Luna and the feeling of simplicity she brought him made me smile. Hermione's comment about agreeing with her and feeling that she might be going quietly mad caused me to grin. And, Ron's reaction to the book made me giggle aloud.

Severus, oh, dear Severus, you've created a wonderfully fleshed out character for him. He's happy, yet real. He's scared, but not scared enough to let his fear cripple their relationship. I just loved him! Also, the fact that you had him thinking about them being equals and with strength that was very compatible with one another reminded me of IGToW's characterizations of Snape and Harry. Wonderful, wonderful work, my dear.

Oh, Hon, you have a lot of magical power! After the first few lines I was already fully immersed in your beautiful tale. I love your plotting, I love your characterization and a lot of other skills but what I love best is your ability to create that special enchanting mood (which cause me a lot of troubles making me forget time, dates, promises *g*)

It isn't the most important part for me but I must tell your description of Snape's spell-crafting, diagnostic spells and the spell-ball is very impressive. You know you revealed yourself? I always suspected that you must be a witch :)

Wow, Rakina! This was a pinch-hit?!? *is flabbergasted* "!!!!" I loved it so much - I could hardly pull away from the screen! That curse, holy crap, and the ending was delightful. Loved loved loved! I especially loved the wedding part, where Ron and Hermione were so accepting, and Luna was so Luna-esque, and Neville so brave! I can't believe this was a pinch-hit.

The ending was so sweet. For a moment I thought you were going to be evil and twist it so Severus ended up a squib...but you came through so I won't throw rotten tomatoes at you.

*Hugs*

I love everything about this story. What a great premise to get them together. And Severus's spell-craftre art is amazing. Super job!

I know if it's a fic by Rakina, I'm going to love it!

I do see a slight problem in continuity. "About that: you took my advice on your genital problem?" Snape asks this just a few minutes later in the same scene after he told Harry to take care of the problem. There was never any chance for Harry to be alone to masturbate.
