I wish people had just started calling manga Japanese comics instead of manga, and we wouldn't have now the whole art style vs country of origin argument. It just feels wrong somehow to call the comics of an entire country or area (in the case of French and Belgian comics, BD) "a style", even if the majority of it does look stylistically uniform. (Note of interest: in Italy they call they own comics "fumetti", Japanese "manga", French "BD" and American "comics". I guess the rest of them would fall under fumetti, although it must get confusing.) And this whole using the untranslated word for comics of the country of origin isn't done in any other medium, either. (Let's not get started with anime vs cartoons.)
...I'm so happy the word for comics in my first language just literally translates to "sequential image". (Multiple images is implied, but the plural of that word mean multiple comic books or series. Actually, the word doesn't translate well at all.)
Tl;dr: I've seen way too much wank about the word manga.
Also, I guess I'll need to get an insanejournal account if s_d is going to stay here.
